 Arbalète had been a tight bundle of nerves ever since her fight with Yves. She'd gotten better, she knew she'd gotten better, but Yves... he was supposed to be distant, unbeatable. Something more, some standard she could strive for but never attain.
She shook her head. She needed to concentrate here. Gaspard. She was going to fight Gaspard. Her uncle... pffah!
"Pay attention," she told him. "This might be a friendly spar, but someday knowing how to fight properly will save your life."

 Gaspard eyed Arbalète dispassionately. His father's granddaughter, that should have made her his niece, but she was full grown before he had even hatched and had never failed to make her displeasure clear at having an uncle younger than her. He didn't like her. He didn't like the way she treated him, the way she seemed to think to think she was better or was so irritated by his presence. "As you wish," he said, his tone flat. He would win this fight.

Arbalète flattened her ears at Gaspard's tone. It was too... too flat, too emotionless. There was some gap between them, something she couldn't quite reach. And she wasn't quite sure how she felt about that.
Shaking off the feeling, she growled angrily and lunged at him.

Gaspard avoided Arbalète's attack with ease. Another dragon might have smiled, but not him. There was a fight at hand. Silent as ever, he smacked her side with his tail as he dodged out of the way.

Arbalète growled in frustration, but knew enough to get her emotions under control. One miss wasn't going to stop her, nor would a flick of her baby uncle's tail. Wheeling sharply, she swiped at Gaspard, scratching his haunches.

Gaspard didn't particularly believe in fighting fair. As Arbalète swiped at his haunches, he twisted sideways and rammed against her, trying to knock her off balance.

Gaspard's attack did indeed manage to spin Arbalète off balance, but she was no novice to fighting and used the momentum from her twisting fall to land a solid smack with her tail before twisting back around, ready to charge. No holding back.

Gaspard gritted his teeth and shifted with the blow of Arbaléte's tail, negating any damage it might have done. He shook his head, eyeing her warily. Waiting. It was her move.

Arbalète stepped back, panting slightly. Even with the snow all around her, she was warm from the exercise. Gaspard was good, when he had he gotten so good? So big. Almost big enough to be an uncle.
But still a baby uncle. She growled under her breath. Why, why did he have to younger than other? He was no proper uncle. A baby brother she could handle, but this? No.

Was it a waiting game then? Gaspard allowed himself a light smile; he was good at waiting. He'd snuck out of the den before dawn during many a day to watch the sun rise, or stood stock still during patrol and waited to see how close the song birds would get. He liked birds...
But that was neither here nor now. Drawing himself back up, he watched Arbalète carefully. He couldn't afford to get distracted.
