This is a private roleplay between Cais [Never Crazy] and Enlei [danse-hexe].

Setting:

Main Street

Cais is out making a delivery of glass decorations when he runs across Enlei.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 02, 2010 8:38 pm

The midday sun shone overhead as Lunarians packed into Main Street. The green from his hat reflected through the crowds as Cais walked along the busy street, a box full of small decorative bottles jingling as he moved. Sweat was peaking on his brow as he adjusted his arms under the weight. He wasn't used to make deliveries to Main Street, especially without his father. Though due to the coming of the holidays he knew better than to question why his father could not assist him.

"Too many in too little of space..." He muttered as he maneuvered away a large group of squealing women. Rolling his eyes he held tightly to his precious cargo. He squinted as he glanced down to the address and name of the establishment scrawled across a piece of parchment hanging over the box. "Ugh, Mom." he whined, stopping dead in his tracks. The box grew heavier with the sudden pause in movement.

He let out a cry as he caught the crate and began moving again. Cais was not about to be the cause of another holiday delivery blunder, not this year. With determined eyes he fixed his arms and held even tighter to the soft wood, taking a glance down onto the gleaming decorative bottles. "Now don't go flying out of my hands." he muttered to them. No incidents this year, no distractions, just a simple delivery.

Bright, sunny day. Enlei liked that. For once, she was in a pretty good mood, humming a random tune as she walked down the streets.

Today felt like it was going to be a good day, somehow- and as she thought that, a sparkle in the sun caught her eye. There was a boy walking in the opposite direction, and he seemed to be struggling with the box he was carrying.

The boy didn't interest her as much as the box did, though... there was something shiny in it, and Enlei grinned as she made her way closer to him, deliberately brushing past him as she snuck a peek into the box. Glass bottles! Normally she wouldn't have given them a second look, but there was something about these glass bottles and the way they sparkled in the sun.

She had to get her hands on one of these.. somehow.

"Ah," she turned back, hoping she looked apologetic enough. "I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going. Are you okay?"

As he continued his way he felt a sharp brush against him and he struggled to keep hold of the heavy package. He was panting, and turned when he heard the voice. "Yeah, I'm fine. But why don't you-" Cais stopped and blinked as he laid eyes on the Lunarian in front of him. He immediately retracted the sharpness from his voice. "Oh, no worries. I get bumped all the time." He smiled at her and shifted the box, moving to a nearby bench and setting it down, stretching out.

"I didn't scrape you with the box did I?" Cais blinked, he wasn't used to being this cordial, but she seemed sincere enough. Not to mention he appreciated the break from dragging the box around. "So... I'm Cais." it came out awkwardly, but he smiled regardless. It had been a while since he had met a girl.

Enlei held in a giggle when Cais spoke sharply to her. Instead she lowered her eyes, looking as apologetic as she could. Perhaps he'd changed his mind about her being some sort of a threat- the sharpness in his voice was gone and he smiled at her.

Her eyes followed the box, which he set down on a nearby bench. The glass bottles sparkled temptingly at her from within- if Cais had bothered to look, he would have seen Enlei's eyes reflecting that same sparkle.

The girl was hopeless with things like that. Pretty baubles and trinkets, even- apparently- glass bottles.

"Oh, no, I'm perfectly fine!" she smiled at him sweetly, then gestured towards the box. "Is.. your box okay? It looks so heavy." ... What's inside? Enlei left that question unasked, figuring he'd probably tell her what she already knew, and hopefully more besides- primarily How can I get one of these?

She listened to him introduce himself, though. Cais. An interesting name. Should she share hers, too? Something about how innocent and unsuspecting he looked made her want to tease him, but she decided against it in the end. There was a chance he'd be able to lead her to where these glass bottles came from- better to be honest with him.

"Pleased to meet you, Cais." She bowed slightly by way of greeting- just a small dip of her head. Enough to show acknowledgement. "I'm Enlei."

How cute, he looked so awkward. Perhaps he was one of those shy types, perhaps he wasn't used to girls. Enlei herself wasn't particularly used to being around guys- her method of dealing with that was basically to treat them as 'people'. Unfortunately the most of the 'people' she came into contact with were females... which pretty much meant she treated guys as if they were girls.

"So... where are you headed, on this fine summer day?"

Cais cast a glance to the crate and back to her. "It should be fine I think." He blushed lightly and looked away from her, keeping his eyes averted. Embarrassed at the fact she had watched him struggle he wasn't looking forward to any comments she would have regarding it. His fears were founded on nothing.

"Enlei?" He looked back with a warm smile. "Pleasure to meet you too." It was refreshing to talk to a girl, and one that wasn't trying to beat him up. It was odd to him though that of all of the people he had met the ones he got along with better were female, but it didn't stop him from being shy.

Her gaze led to the box and he followed it curiously. "Oh, I'm just making a delivery for my father. He's a bit backed up back at the workshop so he sent me to take this order to one of the decor shops up the way." He pointed down the street and nodded. "Though I can't see why they ordered 45 custom made perfume bottles as decor. I mean, there's not even perfume in them" He snickered a little at the thought and stretched out, standing as tall as he could. "And what are you up to?" He asked, grinning slightly.

"That's good, then!" For some reason, he kept looking away from her; Enlei tilted her head slightly, trying to figure out why. Did she somehow look threatening?

Her worries were alleviated, however, when he smiled at her. He had a nice smile, really; he ought to use it more often. She didn't tell him that, though- it wasn't in her nature to be so forward. At least, not when it didn't concern getting something she wanted.

Enlei grinned a little when she noticed he'd fallen for her 'trap'; he was explaining about the box- a delivery for his father, apparently.

"Your family makes these things? Custom-made perfume bottles sound so beautiful," she smiled up at him. "I'm sure they'd make good decorations. They're glass... aren't they? They'd sparkle in the sun and attract all the customers!"

Chuckling softly, she peered closer at the box, pretending she couldn't see the contents clearly. Out of the corner of her eye she saw him stretching, and it somewhat comforted her to see that he wasn't very much taller than her.

"I don't have any plans today, actually."

She grinned back at him.

"Completely free."

He nodded. "Yes, we do. My family runs a glass business, glass blowing as our specialty." He grinned brightly. It was not an everyday visit he had with girls, especially those who were interested in his work. "I normally help out with orders, but this one my father did by himself." He paused.

"I suppose shops are more into attraction than practicality." The words slipped off his tongue like a blade sliding down a hill, he wasn't used to talking so eloquently... ever. It sounded odd to him.

He moved his hands to his head and adjusted his hat."Completely free?" he parroted with a nod. "Well, if you want to..." he searched for the word. He refused to use the word "help", what would she think of him asking her for help? What would his father say if he learned that his own son had asked for the assistance of a young woman?

He didn't want her to leave though. Days of past had been spent mainly alone, he didn't want that again - not after all that time. His mind raced and he settled on it "- escort me around with my delivery, you can." He immediately wished to retract the statement. "I mean, assist or... anyways, would you like to come with me to the shop so you can see them when I deliver them?"

It was an interesting "save", he wondered if she would notice the blunder.

SCOREEEEEE. She couldn't yell that out, so instead she just beamed at him.

"A glass business? Do you have a shop of your own, then?" The excitement in her voice was palpable; she was practically bouncing up and down. Yes! Yessssssssssssssssssss. "That's amazing- I mean, the glass-blowing." Cais should be scared- the way she was looking at him bordered on predatory.

"Attraction, after all, is how to sell things," she reasoned. "And if you can attract people, you can make more money!" Thoughtfully, she tilted her head. "I, for one, would probably be drawn in by them." Enlei grinned at him, then perked up again on hearing his invitation to... escort him around.

Though she caught the interesting choice of words, she chose to ignore it. "I'd love to go with you, Cais- there's nothing else I'd rather be doing, anyway."

If she helped him out, she wondered, would he maybe give her one as a thank-you gift? Mentally Enlei smacked herself for thinking such a.. shallow? callous? thought. Cais seemed like a pretty nice person, glass bottles or no.

"So," she stepped forwards, waiting for him to pick up the box again so they could go to.. wherever it was. "What stuff does this shop sell?"

It might've been pretty awful of her to approach Cais just to get something out of him, but guilt didn't stay very long with Enlei. She was, now, pinning her hopes on finding something nice at whichever store they were headed towards. And hey, she'd made a new friend. Never mind the 'how'.. right?

With a grin he wrapped both arms around the box and lifted it again, shifting his weight to hold it safely. "Oh, yes. Well, my family does." He nodded to her. "I do some work though. I might have a shop of my own someday." He was happy to see her interested in his work, he was completely oblivious to the devious twinkle in her eye.

"T-thanks." he said shyly, nodding to her agreement and taking a few steps up the road, looking back to her. "I suppose the bit about attraction is true, can't sell things if people don't want to go in a store."

As they walked he felt empowered to keep his grip on the box without showing any signs of wear. Though with each new step he felt it grow heavier. "The shop I'm delivering to? Well... All I know is that it's here on Main Street and specializes in decorations and apparel for women. I do suppose that could explain the perfume bottle shapes." He laughed lightly. "Luckily it's not a long walk from home though." He shifted his body to stand as tall as possible and looked back at her.

"Sorry to talk so much about my life. How about you? What does your family do?" He was earnestly interested in her life, it wasn't everyday he had the company of a cute girl. He was deathly afraid of saying something wrong though, lest she get the wrong impression of him. Watching her he felt her eyes run across the box and back at him. He blinked, but ignored the sweep of her eyes. Was she fascinated by the bottles?

"That's fantastic!" In.. more ways than one. The boy seemed to be opening up to her, talking more and more- and to tell the truth, she was sort-of enjoying the chat. "Tell me," she smiled at him, "if you ever get your own shop. I'd definitely be there."

Enlei walked by his side, keeping an eye on the box. Her heart stopped every time it wobbled a little; he seemed to be having trouble (was it that heavy?) and she had to push out mental images of glass shards everywhere on the floor. "Did your father write an address down for you?" Main Street, huh... There were so many shops here, it'd be hard to find the right one if Cais didn't know where it was to begin with. Hmmm. Tightening his grip on the box and shifting slightly to accomodate the weight, Cais turned to her, and she gave him a sidelong glance.

"My family?" How much of the truth would she tell? "Well.. " Enlei smirked, not able to resist this opportunity. "I hope you're good at keeping secrets, because this is a really big one. I don't usually tell people, but you seem like such a trustworthy guy. So..."

Leaning in close, Enlei whispered directly into his ear. "My family.. is the Mafia. I can't tell you any details of what we do... but you can probably guess... right?"

Drawing away, she grinned... and waited for his reaction.

"My own shop. " He blinked several times while the corners of his mouth tilted upward into a smile. Often he had thought of what he would do with his own shop, what things he'd make and what specialties he could pull out. Lost in the moment, his feet tripped slightly and snapped him right back out, holding onto the crate. "Woah." He said, quietly. Last thing he wanted to do was lose his bearings in front of a girl.

"I think it's on the box." He said, trying to look around to the front of the crate. After a few times attempting to arch his neck over he frowned. "I guess I'll have to... figure it out?" he said, a quick nervous laugh escaping from deep in his throat. Father.... It took all of his energy not to groan, but he figured with the extra company it was something he could ignore.. for now.

"Sure, I can keep secrets." He said with a smirk. What he heard next was not what he had anticipated. At all. Blinking, he stopped mid walk, glancing at her before continuing. A thousand things crossed his mind but he wasn't sure which to verbalize first. Taking in a breath he began.

"So how... is that?"

His mind was at a loss for anything else.
