Savage Beasts

For as long as the living have breathed, the world has been savage.

There are vast deserts where nothing grows, mountains where fierce predators lurk in wait to eat you if the sheer drops don't ... icy wastes and violent oceans; the world breaks down anything too soft to survive.

But still, the determined survive. Scattered across the land human cities stand like worn fortresses, protecting the weak people from the true hostility of the elements. But these places are not havens. The greedy and cunning rule, more often than not, and only those who can lend a working hand or strong back are permitted to stay.

The rest are given to the wild, locked out of the city with little more than whatever they can carry of their possessions. Though ... those banished are not always old, sick, or weak. Sometimes, they were simply too troublesome for the government to keep.

Whatever the reason, the only hope for such an outcast is to survive long enough to reach another city ... another chance at life.

Because the world is savage. And humans aren't the only things that rule the land anymore.

When men live as beasts, beasts also walk as men ...

The Rules

1. This is a literate RP. I'll expect two paragraphs as a minimum unless we've come to a place where there isn't a lot to say (yes, that happens. Writers block does too) or we want the plot to move quickly.

2. No disappearing acts. If you join post at least once every few days. If something does come up, please contact me; real life happens.

3. No Godmodding. There are two rulers here, not a single entity (which means that you also have freedom; if you get a good idea for a place/person/character/plot, either do it or run it by me if your iffy on it).

4. This is intended to be yaoi/romance/action-adventure-ish. No instant-love, but instant-respect/awe that will lead to love is fine.

5. Put a ninja in the private message with the character profile to show you read the rules.

6. Posts aren't required to be 'pretty.'

7. Have fun~

What's Needed in the Woods

The most well known race of the world are humans. But there are many, many other creatures and predators than have evolved to survive the harsh wilderness. As to what type of beasts those are ... the races are only limited by imagination. Though quite a few of them can assume human form (by magic or some weird twist of science) to either lure in unwary prey or to simply have a civil conversation in an otherwise uncivilized environment.

I'm hoping for two characters, one human and one 'beast'.

I'm willing to play what's left over, the first choice is up to whoever sends in a profile.

PM me with the character profile filled out, and I will accept the first one that interests me. Remember, make a character that you will enjoy playing; we want the 'story' to last more than the first few pages~

Characters:

Name: Alaster Vaken

But you can call me: Al

Race: Human

But I look like: User Image

I've survived for this long: 19

I have a few stories: Al like many children of this time, grew up with no family to care for him. But the blond never let this get him down. There were many others like him, many that had lost the same thing he had. There was no reason he could pity himself more then them. When Al was 9 he began to care for a few kids he found on the streets of the city, living and working hard like him, but with no adult to look after their needs. Many children died because of this. The young boy was tired of seeing so many lose their lives, so he took it upon himself to try and lessen the body count.
Al became a kind of father to many of the younger children. He took on as much as he could at the age he was, nursing their wounds, feeding their tummies. The things he'd heard families do. It wasn't long before he began to be looked up too. And without meaning to, he became a sort of leader to the many orphans. Al can admit, when he was young he allowed the power to go to his mind. They were all so welling to follow him, like sweet loyal puppies under his commanded. It was with them that Al became a threat to the government. Under his orders thieving raised to new heights, everything from much needed food, to fancy items was taken by the street rats. But it wasn't until the death of one of the higher ups that the government took actions.
And what better why to destroy a growing army, then to rid itself of their leader. Al was thrown out of the city at the age of 14, along with a few of his followers. For 4 years they have been traveling, finding only one city since that time. Now only Al, and one other are left to carry on.

My love life?: Uke

Well, if you ask any more questions ...: Everyone well tell you, Al can be caring to a fault. It seems the boy has an instinct to help those he sees as helpless. This is after all what got him the power over those children in the city. But it was never and act, Al truly was just that caring. But this trite my be the only one that isn't an act. Al over time has become reserved, a thinker, and planer. Someone that likes to be one step ahead of things. This is completely in contrast to his old self, which was fun loving, loud mouth, and trouble making boy. No one knows if Al really is the way he seems to be, or if its just a brave face he's developed under the circumstances.

Name: Nishic Scales

But you can call me: Nis

Race: Warm-blooded reptile, or Lizardsaur

But I look like: User Image User Image

I've survived for this long: 20

I have a few stories: Nis

My love life?: Seme

Well, if you ask any more questions ...: Nishic, like most of his kind, is a solitary hunter. He's lived in the same territory for several years now, and likes where he lives. A few warm rocks to bask on ... deer that aren't too deadly to eat ... no human city nearby ... It was the ideal place for him. Though, every so often people do come through, but that's not a problem for him like it is for some of the other 'beasts' of the world. Because he can shift form from lizard to human. Sometimes it does get lonely, being all by himself. And humans seem to have it pretty easy; just living it up ion their safe cities, not having to worry about meals day by day or if something bigger is going to come along and eat you. So Nis gets an idea; why not join up with the next group of travelers that comes by? He could be human enough; he just had to make sure he had enough clothes on hand the next time a group came by to not look too odd ...

Alaster Vaken

Survival was hard in the land this world had turned into. All humanity seemed to have vanished, and now they were thrown back to prehistoric time. It wasn't just the survival of the fits, but also the bravest, and the smartest. It have been proven again and again, brawns were not all it took to live in this inhuman world. A simple test of strength was hardly the step between life and death. Between living and breathing another day, to having your body lift cold on the ground, with no one to moan over it. No, if that was all it took Al might as well have proclaimed himself as dead on the spot. Because he clearly wasn't the strong type. Not that he was weak, mind you. Underneath the dirty white button up was a bit of a muscular undertone.

But when it came to actually besting a beast with pure strength Al would always fall short. Not only were most abnormal strong, but Al himself lacked the arm muscle to hold his own in that way. Most of his strength was only evident in his stomach, where a small bit of abs hide. Though it was his long, strong legs that were the most powerful part on him. They however didn't seem to show it.

And yet, despite his lack of brawn, he'd managed to live this long in a life many hardly lasted past 15 too. At least out here in the wild as he was. Al had a smart to him, and the skill to hold his own in a fight. It was more then he could say for many others. With this dark thought in mind his orange eyes drifted to the soul member the rested with him. Once a group of 8 or so, now only they remained.

Mike was his name, simple enough to always be able to remember. He was the broader type, with arms much bigger then Al's. However like Al, his brawn wasn't what had kept him alive so long, but his skill. His skill being the ability to make a useful, somewhat sturdy weapon out of objects found around in the wild lands. It was these items that put them a bit ahead of the game. Allowed them to breath air for one more day and not rest in cold dirt.

In his pale hand Al held on of these weapons, a slim though a bit crudely but bow. On his back a leather strap-he had made himself-held the deadly stone arrows. Carved to the sharpest, deadliest point. At this present time they were resting their road warily feet, Mike having found the floor the moment Al called for a rest. The blond on the other hand was rested on a large rock, his legs starched out before him, showing their long, full length. Al tilted his head back, and arched his back, a popping sound coming with the movement.

The sky was still light so that meant their travels were not done for the day. But humans could only carry on for so long on an empty stomach, so for now, game had to be found. "Who's turn is it to go hunting." His voice carried a clam note to it, as if hunting was only ordering pizza. "Mine. I'll leave in a moment. And while I'm out looking for food, I'll get some more stones. You could use more arrows." Mike spoke, his steel eyes moving to look at the make shift holder. Only four arrows in total rested inside. "Thats true. While your doing that I'll look for some wood you can use." A nod from the broader male, and in a few moments Mike stood to his feet. Without a word goodbye he was gone.

Al rested back on his hands, allowing himself a moment more of rest. Few minutes passed, and then he was standing to his feet. Moving around the grounds his eyes locked on the floor in search of the items he'd promised to look for.

((I've very sorry; my laptop died for a while. Had to get it fixed))

Nishic 'Nis' Scales

Nis licked his jaws in satisfaction, chewing on a bit of raw rabbit flesh. Well ... it was sort of a rabbit ... and a bit of an armadillo ... In these times, it was hard to label animals by terms previously known by the old human civilization. Either way, it was a tasty snack for the lizardsaur. His scaly leather hard skin was a dark green, with black and white diamond markings going up his armored back, limbs moving smoothly as he took another bite of the fresh meat, roughly-made spear in his other hand, ready at all times. He didn't survive to maturity--the only one to do so out of a clutch of three--by letting his guard down. Unlike the humans, brawn had saved his life more times than cunning, though his thick hide had also helped greatly, the scars and scratches of the few blows that had pierced his hard, scaly skin clear.

And those wounds were all acquired by humans. It made one wonder why an animal like himself would want to join up with creatures who were so keen to kill him, but the answer was simple: he was lonely. Unlike real reptiles, the warm-blooded lizardsaur was a social creature ... craving company and fellowship. Which was why he was going to do the improbable: join up with the next pack of humans he found. It couldn't be too hard; all he had to do was shed his lizard skin for his human one--he'd been practicing hard on that for a while now--and gain their trust.

The breeze, to Nis's surprise, carried just the scent he'd been waiting for. Humans; and not too far. He nearly dropped his catch in shock, but then just dislocated his jaw--like a snake would--and swallowed the rest whole. He'd only been eating little bits because humans ate that way, and practice to the ruse was essential. But now, time was more important. Where had he left those human clothes? Oh yes, at the sunning rocks. The creature moved smoothly in a slightly hunched run toward the familiar place. He was not caress in his run: even in his home territory, things unwanted could creep in without notice. But he did put down his spear and took several moments to shed his skin when he arrived, leaving a dry husk as he slid wetly out, now in a human form.

Well, human enough anyway. His eyes slitted into lines in the bright sunlight, pupils oval instead of round. And his hair was black ... with a slight shade of green in the sunlight as well. Things that were obvious give aways to humans, but not so much to the lizardsaur. "Well ..." the laboriously practiced human words came out easily, fluently, "... time to see if my new guests are friendly ..."

He pulled on the leather clothing he'd skinned and made himself, and walked toward where he heard one, and spoke up when he was still a good distance away, and had plenty of forest cover to hide behind of the human proved to be too violent. Though, Nishic was getting pretty desperate. The last few humans to come by had come and gone almost a year ago now. He had been going insane with the waiting ... the loneliness. Other Lizardsaurs just didn't understand. They were cold ... not wanting to talk, let alone socialize.

"Hello?" He called out, letting himself be seen ... but still out of easy aiming distance. He'd seen arrows, and knew what they were. They hurt.

(That sucks. Well I'm glad its working now. And no worries.)

Alaster Vaken

In Mike absence Al had found a few good sized pieces of wood. Big enough so that they could carve a good shape for the stone arrow to fit on. One was a small branch from a tree, in which Al literary had to jump up and down to brake. The cracking sound had made him cringe. With a limit on his arrows he didn't need to attack any attention to himself. Still the branch was needed and now it rested in his hand with 4 others. He would have to find more on their walk.

The destination in mind wasn't clear. After all neither of them know where the next city would be found. Most of this was just wondering aimlessly, hoping that some day soon they may stumble across a city in which they could make their new home. But finding that new home was proving to be a difficult task. Only once had the found another place to call home. But shortly after their arrival there the town had fallen under attack. Al lost three good men that day, leaving the town with only Mike, and another.

Shortly after that though, the other would die as well. Killed by something perceived to be harmless. Only one couldn't assume anything was harmless in this world any longer. To survive you always had to be on edge, always had to be at the ready. Because something could happen any minute, any day. Safety was a luxury no longer allowed.

It was for this reason that the young male wiped around at the sound of a voice. His hand flying to the arrows resting in their home. One skilled motion and he had the weapon placed inside the bow. The string pulled back, taunt, and aimed at the sound of a voice. "Who's there?" He shouted, his eyes narrowed before him. Before him was a form of a man. Hair a strange mix of green and black.

Al narrowed his eyes on the male, untrusting even if he looked to be human. Some humans proved to be crazed, and most wouldn't hesitate to turn against their own kind should it save their life. Still Al didn't fire, he wouldn't kill someone in cold blood, not without good cause at least. The man was simply to kind to do something like that. "Who are you?" He asked now, the arrow still remained aimed at the intruder, though Al allowed it to slack just a hair. "What do you want?"

Nishic 'Nis' Scales

Nishic had been more than expecting the reaction, but flinched involuntarily when he saw the arrow aimed at him, regardless of knowing it would happen. The warm blooded lizard shivered, hoping this choice wouldn't kill him. But the need for someone to talk to ... to get to know just how different a human's view of the world would be from his own ... It was a drive most others of his kind had frowned upon. Needing others just left you open to be betrayed and hurt. Or worse: dead. Nis was an enigma to his own people, a solitary race that only craved company in the mating season while he himself wanted company past that. He craved a pack of sorts ... or at least people he could speak his mind to.

"I-I'm," Nishic stuttered a little, then took a deep breath and began again, hoping the slight slip of language wouldn't matter, "I'm Nishic. Nishic Scales. Most just call me ... well, they used to call me Nis." His siblings had shortened his name, liking prolonging the 's' sound in playfulness. Maybe that was why he craved company: he had grown up with siblings, both of whom were now deceased. The lizard man went back to the point though. "I'm looking for people to travel with ... It's harder, you know, to be on your own. And, maybe, accompany you to a city if you know of one." He couldn't see the slightest slackening of the arrow from his distance, though he almost caught the smallest bit of movement on the bow, body tensing again. But when nothing pierced his skin, the lizardsaur held back a sigh of relief.

"I don't want any trouble," Nis added, not wanting an injury, though, a bit of desperation was also in his voice. He needed to speak, in a way, after such a long time of just talking to himself. And he was desperate to join a group. Nishic was pretty sure another winter alone would make him go insane. But safety was the most important thing in this world; each injury was a chance at infection or lameness; both of which would ultimately lead to death. "I'll leave ... if you'd rather fill me with holes than talk." But that would be so lonely .... the sadness at the possibility of remaining alone invaded his tone before Nis could notice. D**m, he didn't want to seem weak and desperate! But it was too late for that now ...

Alaster Vaken

Al didn't let his eyes narrow. But the bow slowly did. The man speaking seemed so... desperate. How could the blond not feel a plague of sympathy. Would that be him should he have lost everyone? Coming up to strangers that might kill him on sight, just for the chance of speaking someone. A chance to relieve the loneliness. It was almost a sure yes.

But this in no way meant he could trust the male speaking, Nishic, or Nis as he called himself. The weapon may be lowered but his guard was still high. His voice sounded a bit strange when he spoke, though only for a short moment, allowing Al to think it must have been misheard. Perhaps his paranoia kicking in. And it was with this same distrust that fulled Al's next words. "Nis, is it? Do you have any weapons on you? If so I want to see them, and always have them in my line of sight." He wouldn't ask him to get rid of his protection, there was to much chance he would have need for it. And Al didn't want a death on his heart, not another. But just the same he also did not want the strange haired male to think he could use it on him. Sometimes humans could be more dangerous them monsters. He wasn't about to place his trust in a man he hardly knew.

There was no hand shake offered, though the lowing of his bow might have been the best sign of friendliness given. The blond didn't take a step to the other male, he merely kept his eyes keen to his every movement, every twitch of his body. However, he was not without his manners. "I'm Alaster. But call me Al. I wont shoot you so long as you don't give me need to." His words were chirps and clear, the looking his eyes promising he would make good on his threat.

Nishic 'Nis' Scales

Nis nodded silently, glad he was at least being given a chance, even if it wasn't a friendly welcome. That just proved that the human was world-wise, and knew better than to give trust to anyone. The lizardsaur was glad he wouldn't have to start running for his life from arrows though: the hard rock tips looked well made. Or, at least, very sharp. Nishic picked up his spear from the ground, but kept it very loose in hand and tip facing down, trying to appear as non-threatening as possible. Then he took a moment to pull out his 'dagger' from the loop he'd made for it on his pants to sever as a holder. The dagger was little more than a short but thick sharpened stone with a bone 'handle' on one side, while the spear had a rather large, almost scythe-like blade impeded to the wooden pole.

Both were roughly made, but were made of flint: a rather good stone for sharp weapons. The lizard man had found a deposit of flint not too far from the river that ran through his territory, and had taken advantage of it whenever he need sharp objects. It had taken a lot of practice to be able to shape the rough stone into what he wanted without it shattering the wrong way though. "I won't give you need to; I've had enough pieces of me bitten by teeth and such over the years just getting a meal ..." Nis took a few steps forward, weapons still a-peek-a-boo and held points down in what the lizard hoped to be a non-threatening manner. "Are you traveling alone, Al, or are there others?" Nishic sounded oh so hopeful that there would be others. He wanted to meet a lot of people and see what they were like, and if they were better company than his own kind.

The lizardsaur was at least smart enough to not walk too close to Alaster; just close enough so that they could see each other better. Nis was particularly fascinated by Al's body structure, but tried just to be curious instead of inspecting. Humans were so fascinating: no claws, no scales, and yet they seemed to still be one of the most effectively made species on the planet. Though, the lizard then noticed the difference in their eyes .... his lizard eyes had oval pupils that would turn to slits in bright light--and also reflect light in the dark--while the human's eyes were decidedly round. Nis stared at Al's eyes--never really having gotten close enough to a human to see their eyes properly when he'd been trying to get his human form right--and then looked away when he realized he was being rude. He scanned the foliage for a moment, not wanting to pay so much attention t the human that something else would pop in for the opportune snack.

But, then again, Nis hoped that his oddities wouldn't be too odd ... he had heard from a passing group of travelers--him eavesdropping on them--that there were a few humans with odd bits and pieces now too, just like the rabbit-armadillo he'd eaten before. So ... maybe he could just pass as a genetic-freak of a human ...

Alaster Vaken

The human watched the stranger remove his weapons. A deadly spear first followed by bone dagger. Al's eyes watched each movement, falling to his hands for a moment, then moving on to the other. He could almost admire the handy work of the weapons made. The bone handle of one catching his eye most of all. They both looked deadly, Al had no doubt they could kill. But the male followed his orders keeping the weapons visible, casted down.

On his own end the blond also lowered his weapon. The arrow pointed to the dirt, he allowed the string to slack more but wouldn't release his hand from it just yet. The pale limb of his fingers stayed coiled around the elastic string, his eyes drawn up to the mans face now. Blue orbs locking on strange shaped irises. Al frowned, studying him. Added to his hair color, Nis looked very odd. Almost like some of the animals he'd seen. Not quite human, but not quite beast either. Something slightly caught in-between. He'd heard of humans being born like this, had meet only one other on his travels. Still his eyes added a level of discomfort, even if he had a full human heart those eyes were clearly anything but.

They reminded him of beast his arrows had clashed with, of claws that came at his throat. No, Al didn't trust this man. But he would stick by what he said. Without a reason he would not shoot.

"Theres only one other with me. He's out hunting but should return with the meal soon." Mike would need to be here before the full decision on letting him into the party was made. With only the two of them Al didn't fully take part as a leader as he once did. He allowed Mike to make choices where they needed to be made, gave him a voice to act on. Al himself was a bit unsure in letting Nis step into their small circle. Trusting someone had become hard with each page of his life. But even with distrust, there were safety in numbers, Al knew this well. Three would always work better then two.

"What are you doing out here Nis, all alone?" Had the male also been tossed out of the city? For a crime, or for loss of worth? Or was he one of the rare few children that were born on the outside, to a mother who most likely died, and a father who was probably absent. He'd only heard of these births, children of the outside. Never had he met one.

Nishic 'Nis' Scales

Nis looked back to Alaster when the other spoke up, obviously eager. He;d just eaten, but the lizardsuar was excited to meet another person ... though it was rare to see such a small group of people. Small groups generally didn't survive long. but maybe that fact would work in his favor ... maybe they'd be more willing to take him with them, seeing as they could use another working body. And things were always dangerous out here ... even with a big group. "If there' not enough for me, you don't have to give me anything ... accepting me or not. I already caught something for myself today." Nishic tried to be polite.

But at the question, Nis knew he had to be careful. It would be hard enough keeping up the lie that he was human if he got tripped up in another lie. It would be best to stay as close to the truth as possible, so he wouldn't have to remember an untrue story: those were always hard to keep straight with time. "I was born out here. My mother ... took care of me and two older siblings--" clutchmates; only older by a few days each as they hatched from their eggs. And it wasn't like their mother took care of them past the first year, really, "--until she left. You know how it is ... sometimes taking care of the young is a risk to the life of the elder, and some don't want to risk that ... We took care of each other after she was gone. Greg, Sham, and me. It wasn't always easy but ... it was better than being alone."

Nis didn't have to feign a bit of grief as he turned away, looking at the forest once more for a moment. "Until they died. I didn't want to leave here ... at least, not alone. I know this place, this area. Where food is and what the winters are like. I don't know cities ... where they might be, how to get into one ... I thought I'd stay in familiar territory until some people showed up who looked friendly." Nis had seen a few human groups with ... reptilian skins on their backs. Lizardsaurs weren't immune to arrows and spears if they were stabbed in the right, soft, places after all. He swallowed nervously at the thought, even though his kind usually won out against humans. "So, now I'm here. Talking to you. That's it."

The lizard in disguise looked back towards the human, shifting his weight a little to keep the blood flowing easily. "What about you?" Sure, the question might've been a little forward, but the warm blooded reptile was curious. Humans did not often leave their cities, and never really traveled far to hunt. Unless, pf course, they were traveling or looking for a new home.

((No problem))

Alaster Vaken

Al wasn't about to be kind enough to offer him extra food, so when he said he had a full belly the male choose to take that as the little blessing it was. After all, hunting wasn't done easily, and Mike wouldn't know to catch enough to feed more then the two of them. The man wasn't going to starve him, but if Nis wasn't hungry he would in no way enforce the issue. "If you say so."

He was still eying the new comer as if he were only another beast ready to attack. Trust was hard to come by in these times. Even among life long friends it was scarce. Trusting to often lead to a fast death. But his heart softened as his story was told. Not an unheard tale, but still sad none the less. Al himself didn't know what it meant to loss a parent, he was hardly old enough to remember his when they lost their lives. And while he may not have in true brothers or sister for that matter, Al could almost understand the sting of losing one. Because his crew, his gang, had almost been like his siblings. Or maybe more so his own kids, after all he raised more then have of them. Kissed their wounds, chased away their fears with kind words, he'd taken care of them when they had no one else.

"I'm sorry for you lose." He said, a small bit of sympathy heard in his otherwise cold voice. So unlike the male who used to kiss those kids knees when they scarped them along the harsh concrete. Thoughts of the past only intensified at Nis question. His eyes jerked up to the males face, to share of not to share? Well, he had given his own story, a no doubt painful retell. Al's eyes fall down to his feet a moment his limb shifting as he moved it across the dirt.

"I lost my parents when I was to young to remember them. I grew up with a bunch of street kids, orphans like me. I took care of allot of them, kinda like a big brother..." His throat clenched around a ball of sadness, a plague of guilt igniting in his gut. His only true show of discomfort was the shifting of his foot once again, traveling back to its starting place before moving again. "Anyway, we sort of became a 'problem' for the government there. So they got ride of me and a few others. And over time.. well it wore down to just us two." His gaze lifted now, catching the other males strange shaped orbs, holding it for a moment.

He shifted his feet once more, now pulling the right back to the side of the left before he moved to a slow walk. In a few steps he was sitting on the rock once more, hands moving to link together probed up on his knees. "So thats my story. Mike should be here in a bit, you can have a seat if you like." A small sign of friendship was made with the offer. About as good as he might get.

Nishic 'Nis' Scales

Did Nis catch the smallest bit of sympathy in the human's voice? Well, Al seemed to give a lit of small hints. Tiny giveaways of a human heart. The Lizardsaur only barely caught a few of the finer clues, and that was only because his own species didn't show feelings that often; a reptilian face didn't have the muscles for evolved facial expressions like grins or grimaces. At best, Nishic had found he could give small frowns or smiles in his true form, but that was about it. The subtle movements of the human's face and body were fascinating to the lizard, especially close up. Nis had already tried to study humans at a distance, watching whatever groups passed through by with rapt attention but also elaborate camouflage. Despite hiding, he'd been found a few times and nearly turning into dinner a time or two. Humans were very determined, and quite good trackers. Yet another reason why Nis would rather live with them than try to make a life outside on his own. If he could pull this off, his life would be much easier. Or, so the lizardsaur believed.

As for Al's story, Nis found himself sympathetic to the human's plight. They had both lost much, though Al had been given more to lose. The reptile felt his face--well trained with many months of practice looking down at a still pool of water--changing to fit the emotions he was feeling. A thoughtful frown, natural to most of his kind, though deepened to fit human features. But Nis did follow Al at a respectful distance as the other went to sit on a rock. Nishic sat a bit of a distance away, on the ground. The lizardsaur thought it might be impolite to share the same rock as a seat when they'd only just met. Plus, he would--hopefully--seem less threatening to the human, Mike, who was still to return.

The odd 'human' didn't seem to mind staying in one place too much. Patience was important, and had to be learned for hunting, or you often went hungry. But Nis did find something to say. "I'm also sorry. For your losses." Humans were pack animals after all; even hive structured individuals sometimes, depending on how many humans you were talking about. Nowadays, the largest groups of humans lived in Cities. And Cities must have governments, it seemed, from what Al had said about where he'd come from. "So, what are they like? Well, Cities, I mean. I've never been to one and I'm a little curious ... They're big, right? Lots of people and traders, I've imagined." He tried to make small conversation, steering the subject away from more painful things, he hoped.

(I'm really really sorry this has taken so long to reply too. I've been highly busy with a new job and all. And now I have Dead Space 2 for only four days, so I'm playing that obsessively. But I promise to reply as soon as I can.)

((Lol, I completely understand. ...Dead Space two? *shudder* ... I don't like the exploding babies or rapor-like pack hunters ... ))
