Ok, so basically I forgot today was Thursday, I've been working all day thinking it was Wednesday. So I was planning on going to church tomorrow at 5:30 with my mom to celebrate the Ascension. Well, I just looked at the calender and realized today was Ascension Thursday. stressed
I've missed holy days of obligations before because I'm very sick and unable to drive myself, and my Mom and Dad are usually at work so they can't drive me. Instead I just watch Mass on TV. So I know missing Mass in those circumstances isn't a mortal sin. But this time my Dad's home and if I had just remembered today was Ascension Thursday I could have asked him to drive me. It's all my fault, but it was on accident. So I need to know is this venial or a mortal sin?
I'm going to try to confess before Mass on Sunday (I can't Saturday), but if for some reason that doesn't work out I need to know if I'm in a state of grace or not.
Ugh. I feel awful. crying

it wasn't your fault unless you did it knowingly, you can't commit a mortal sin "by accident", there has to be full knowledge, full consent, and grave matter, and i don't think you "consented", i don't personally have the authority to tell you that you didn't commit a mortal sin, so i would still say talk to your priest, but i'm pretty sure it's safe to say you didn't.
so don't worry, don't let these kinds of things stress you out, even if you did commit a mortal sin, you have to have peace and just do what you can, God doesn't want you to be stressed.
ok? hope this helps, take care.

I agree. 3nodding You had to be fully aware that you were deliberately missing a holy day of obligation. On that same note, I found an article that might also clear things up. (http://catholicism.about.com/od/holydaysandholidays/f/Ascension_Holy.htm) In summary, the article states that most of the USA no longer celebrates Ascension Thursday and it has now been moved to the nearest Sunday, which would be in two days. biggrin Anyway, it's not a sin and you are in a state of grace as far as I can tell. Also I am only presumming you live in the USA. My apologizes if you live elsewhere and this does not apply to you. redface

Honestly, you had the intention to go. I didn't get to go to church on Easter because I didn't have a ride in the morning, and then we drove 5 hours back to school to go to evening mass and they had cancelled it.
You have a good heart, and I'm sure you're fine.

Ah, thank you guys! I completely forgot about having to consent to it. Wow, I would lose my head if it weren't attached to me... sweatdrop

Well we can't really do anythign about it now. Just confess it, regardless of its gravity it'll dissappear without much trouble.
