Guidelines

Be aware that what you post here needs to follow Gaia TOS and perhaps a little more conservative than that. No screwing, no ultimately mature situations, and no excessive nudity... I think "Sailor Moon" nudity doesn't count? And of course, maybe a little giggle nudity.

You get the point. Think before you post.

Follow the adventures of this extraordinarly average, un-powered daughter to two of the earth's greatest super heros as she deals with super villains, her fun job, and the troubles of finding love in a world where she doesn't quite fit in.
Thread Rating: * * * * * / 1 Person

Title: Abarat

Title: Handmaid's Tale
Author: Margaret Atwood (Canadian feminist)
Genre: Post apocalyptic, satiric, dystopian
Summary: Set in the near future, in a totalitarian theocracy which has overthrown the United States government, The Handmaid's Tale explores themes of women in subjugation and the various means by which they gain agency.
Though this book has many adult themes, there are huge references to the United States, feminism, totalitarianism, and the bible. Often, these views are satirical and accomplished through extreme examples. Though Atwood does not deliver a specific opinion of her own, you are left to ponder this strange new world and your own position in it. To me, it represented the importance of standing up for my rights and equal treatment. In my opinion, every woman should read it.
Thread Rating: * * * * * / 1 Person
Estimated Rating: At least teen - sometimes used as highschool and often as college reading material.
Warnings: Violence, swearing, sexual unpleasantness (meaning not for kidlets)
