I've read a lot of Anne Mccaffery's dragonriders books. I started with
Dragonflight, Dragonquest, and The White Dragon and really like them. So I also read The Dragonriders of Pern, Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern, Nerilka's Story, Dragonsdawn, The Renegades of Pern, All the Weyrs of Pern, and the Harper Hall Trilolgy biggrin ragonsong, Dragonsinger, and Dragondrums. Anybody else like them?

I read all the ones that my middle school library had. And loved them. Then I read one of the ones in my high school library, and was vastly disappointed in it. For one thing, and I don't know if this was intentional or not, it ended right when things were starting to get interesting. I can't reme, ber the title of it for the life of me, but I know it had something to do with the first person who could talk to any and all dragons. That book pretty much killed any love I had for the series, and I haven't been able to read any of them since. Sad, isn't it?

Anyways, I'd like to have a fire lizard! A dragon would be neat, too, but they're way too big. A fire lizard would be much easier to take of. 3nodding

Oh, I'm sorry if it was ruined for you. At least you like fire lizards!

Yes, I still like them. Fire lizards are cool. n.n

I like the first few books in the Dragon Riders series and the first 1-2 books in most of her other earlier series.

She seems to start a series & then get bored & just churn out cookie-cutter books with cookie-cutter characters. After this point, all the heroines are highly sexed, have good-sized appetites for food, are gorgeous, and are not above breaking the law if they think it necessary. Ditto for the heroes. Also true for vilains and villainesses. You can tell the former pair from the latter because they live through the book & end up happily together (often in or on their way to bed). Ok, this is a slight exaggeration, but not by too much.

She seems to have stayed interested in the Dragon series for the longest. The first few are really fun (though the sexual politics are, um, interesting), and the spin-offs with various other characters are enjoyable. I particularly like Menolly.

I think the dragon books start on their downward path around White Dragon but are still fairly readable for a few books after.

In other series, I really liked The Ship Who Sang and Killashandra.

Oh, and I'd like a fire-lizard, please. Dragons are cool but way too demanding.

I can't decide which one! It would be nifty if I could have both, but I don't think my dragon would like that at all. If the dragon was okay with it, I bet the firelizards would be, though. smile

I think there are one or two dragon riders who also have fire lizards.

Didn't Brekke or whatever her name was, the rider whose queen got killed on her first mating flight, have fire lizards as well as the queen dragon? And I'm fairly sure that there were other dragon riders that had fire lizards, but she's the one that comes to mind.

Yes--Brekke did have fire lizards (2, I think?). She impressed them after she lost her queen, though. I remember now because they drove her back when everyone was trying to get her to Impress a new queen (apparently that is Just Wrong, though the books never really indicate how or why).

I think F'nor also Impressed some fire lizards. I know at least one or two dragonriders did because I remember thinking how unfair that was.

Didn't like them or just ran out of time?

I've only read one, but I loved it. My problem is that I can't get my hands on any more.

Try the local library?

I NEVER have enough time anymore. Otherwise, I'd spend ALL my time there.

i have the whole series exept dragonsblood by todd her son, which hasn't come out in paperback here. i love them all but some of them aren't ones i read to often and others i read every half a year. i also love the Acorna books i've got that series too. i know so many aspects about pern i could probably write my own novel if i tried but i just don't have the patience! xp oh well i'm new to the guild here and saw this topic and kind of got exited, but yeah if you ever want to know something about the books i can probably help you out.
