Do you mean the 1980's? I dont really associate that decade with fantasy and dragons and such.
But you'll need shoulder pads, fingerless gloves, parachute pants or a mini skirt. Those are pretty classic 80's fashion trends. Here's a good site for you. http://www.liketotally80s.com/top-80s-fashion-trends.html
If you don't mean the 1980's uhh... i dunno XD

Yes and I mean the 1980's XD
I already have the fingerless gloves. kind of a mini skirt (more like a draped curtain around my butt) a corset-ish body and a sword. I might even make a short sleeved, bolero-like fur coat to go with it if it's not to hot XD
I'll make a pic of my design when it's day again.
And the classic fantasy shows are from that decade! Robin, the hooded man, Highlander, Xena, etc.

Yes the shows are, but they are not set in the 80's XD No 80's fashion was suitable to fighting in, but I'm sure you will make something great!

I know the shows aren't, but the fantasy from the 80's has a very distinct style, the same as that fantasy from now is often the make belief extreme realistic stuff is. And tadah, design: The necklace is from copper colored metal, the body of brown worn out leather (from an old jacket of Laps fiancee) the skirt will probably be blue or red, the gloves are brown leather with brown fur and the shoes are brown leather high heeled sandals. And ofcourse, the best piece, the sword will be custom made for me 8D

Looks very nice Hasels, can't wait to see the finished costume. Are you going to borrow a sword from someone to complete it?

A different sort of work I think is the simplest way to say things. I always wanted to learn to smith, It's still on my life list of things to learn.

Perhaps you could do whitesmithing or goldsmithing well, it generally requires less brute strength and more finesse. It's also done mostly with cold metal, which is good if you don't like heat! rofl
