The Enemies
[As you look around the rendezvous point, you notice that the water behind the temple reaches much, much farther out than the water in front of the temple, and you wonder why that could be. It also looks very, very deep. You then see Atreyu perched on a half-submerged boulder near the edge of the water. By the size of the boulder, you guess that there is an almost immediate drop off.]
Atreyu: Well, here we are. Now, before we begin, I need to inform you of the few enemies that I know for sure you will be facing. The hardest part will be getting in the temple through all that water. Trust me, even though the water is a freak occurrence, I guarantee you things are already living in it. Stuff like that happens around these parts.
[He scowls.] Unlike the petty card-collector, I come prepared. Now, let the informing begin.
[Raising a hand, he starts to paint pictures of creatures using the Phoenix Phire he forms in his palm, and starts to speak while you watch.]Enemy One: The Freshwater (Feasting) Mermaid
Atreyu: Contrary to popular belief, mermaids don't only exist in saltwater. They exist in both, and both are equally vicious in their own ways. Don't let their beauty fool you - the freshwater mermaid has the nickname 'Feasting' for a reason. She lures passersby to the edge of a lake or river through song, and then she snatches them from the water's edge and pulls them to the bottom. They are attracted to music.
Freshwater Mermaid Stats
Strength: Speed, the Element of Surprise
Weakness: They can't be out in the sun for long periods of time. Their skin dries out quickly.
Habits: Mermaids gather in small groups, and usually very close to the lake or river bottom unless going for food. They like to gather around Singing Clams (No, not a joke).
Any Special Traits?: Mermaids, if stuck on land, will have their tails turn to legs. They throw sticky seaweed woven like rope to snatch people off the very land they walk on.Enemy Two: Ghostare
Atreyu: Once we get past the Mermaids though, we're pretty much in the clear. Ghostares are easy to sidestep, but hard to escape once they've spotted prey. Ghostares come to being in long-forgotten places where many people walked, and the spirits of those who died return to walk the halls again. Their movements are very predictable - they're always walking those same paths after all - but the many hands enable them to block, attack, and counterattack all at once. They feed off emotions, so make sure you don't have any.
Ghostare Stats
Strength: Multi-tasking, brute magical force
Weakness: Light
Habits: They walk the same paths. All day, everyday.
Any Special Traits?: The more heads it has, the more lives it has consumed.
Atreyu: Now that that's done with, we will begin. Our first step is getting beneath the water and into that secret passage. Let's get started.
