i was doing a waterchange just now and i noticed something that looked like a shed exoskeleton of the spikes on the side of my pleco' gills. ive had her for a few years and have never seen anything like this before. whats going on in my tank? she still seems healthy and has all her gill spikes but ive never seen her do this before

Thats.... Weird, to say the least. I've never heard of anything like that happening.

What are your parameters like?

im not sure, i havent gotten test strips in a while since everything was always pretty stable with just a weekly water change. i was a bit late with the water change by a week but i wouldnt think that that was enough to cause anything too drastic, my bioload should be less than it was since im down 2 more fish

I did some looking around, and the only thing I can find is that Pleco's shed their slime coat every now and then. I'm honestly at my wits end with this :/

thanks anyways. i cant find anything about it either. maybe i was mistaken about what that thing was but it looked alot like her gill spikes and i cant think of what else it would be. she is the only sharp thing i have in the tank.
