This has been on my mind for some time but do any of you think its possible or impossible that this anime could be like the future? I've notice not everything overally science ficition but I'd like to hear what you guys have to say about this.

It might be, but then again... the greenhouse pollution, wars, hate, prejudice, endangered species, water resources and other things may cause it not to happen
But if it does happen, it would be cool to me, but to some other people, they might have doubts about their humanity and stuff like that...
That is what I think...

Not to be a pessimist, but I don't think we'll be around that long. But if we were, I think things would be similar.

sometimes i hope it will be....it would be strange being able to access the internet from your mind.....
i also think being cyberized would be hard to do but i belive it can happen eventually
and it makes me sad to think that i wont be around to see any of the futures advancements...it makes me realize that were all human in the end everytime i think about it... gonk

Look at the Refugees. As for what I think, I say it's a distinct possibility.

Isn't GitS: SAC set in like, 2030's?
It's very believable, in my opinion. It amazes me every time I think about it how correct Shirow may have been in his foretelling of the future, even if it is fiction. For instance, problems of immigration are such a problem even today, but over the past(20th) century, countries have opened their borders more and more, ushering in the age of globalization, so who's to say there won't be an even larger number of immigrants in a state during that time.... But he doesn't take it so far as to make the problem unrealistic; it seems there is enough opposition and support that it can be believable in a mere twenty-five years.
And the rate at which our every moment depends on the internet and interconnectivity through cell phones, transportation, etc etc, it is very believable.
Not unrealistic at all, in my opinion. Probably the most 'realistic' of alternatives I've seen or read.

um ignore the post that i had put up a few days ago and now deleted it.
It is realistic, but depending on whether certain countries will use their neuclear weapons, then it might not come to exist.

Hm, with the way how technology is going these days, I definetly can see how the future can be more like the GITS surroundings in the future. Not the near though because I think we still have a long way to go.

There is a very good chance that the future will hold many amazing surprises, but I do not think the future will be like GITS.
True, we may see much more prosthetic body parts, and amazing new technologies, but it will be a very long time before we see cyborgs walking around. :-/
