It had been enough time. Lance should be back in the Mist lounge by now, right? She hadn't been avoiding it but Candace had decided to hold off on her apology to Lance until after he was healed enough for a good talk with. She would hate to apologize to him and he not remember because he was only half-conscious or because he was doped up on pain killers. But it had been more than long enough for that ship to sail, right? She still wanted to talk to him. It was her and Cass' fault he had been put in that condition to begin with...

Candace climbed through the hole in the wall and looked around, sighing with relief to find it was a lot cleaner than the last time she had had a chance to come here. It also reminded her she needed to talk to Deryk about the monitors; she hoped he could help them save or fix a few of them, or at least find out what they needed to do to get their surveillance back in running order.

"Lance?" Candace called out as she walked through the room, straightening a few things up here and there. She'd purposely come at night because of what they had learned about him essentially being 'nocturnal' so she just hoped she wasn't waking him from much needed rest. "It's Candace. Are you awake?" She made her way toward the door that led into the hall she had yet to actually see. Was it okay for her to go in there? Lance had advised against it before..but she wanted to find him! Candace looked around a moment before opening the door enough to peek into the hallway. "Lance?"

...She felt like Belle sneaking into the West Wing of Beast's castle.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 04, 2012 6:47 pm

"I'm in here," a voice called from a room to Candace's left. "Come on in, and turn the light on." There was a pause before the voice added, " And leave the door open, let's not give people the wrong idea. Just use the hook on the wall to hold the door in place."

The room itself was sparse with harsh white walls and a harsher white floor. The floor itself was clean -- made sense, as Lance's way to get around was with a wheelchair. The chair itself was pulled up next to his bed within easy reach, squeezed between it and a desk. The desk itself was where the mess in the room lay: papers were scattered haphazardly across it. Some of the papers were official-looking documents, others were diagrams detailing how different devices fit together. There were even a few books in the room resting on the bookshelf, however a majority of the shelf-space was taken up by various tokens and trophies from previous missions.

Lance was resting on his bed, pillows piled up behind him as a backrest. He removed his headset as Candace came in, hanging it on the arm of his wheelchair before he looked up from his laptop. The blanket came up to his waist and hid his legs, one leg much bulkier than the other. Lance was shirtless, his chest wrapped snugly in bandages.

As the trainee entered, he rubbed his scruffy chin while scrutinizing Candace. It was brief, followed by a nod before he waved her towards a plush-looking chair situated in a corner of the room beneath a reading lamp. "Come on in. To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit...?"

Oh good! She wasn't facing certain death. Candace actually sighed with relief as she stepped further into the hall to enter the room Lance was in, feeling along the wall near the door for the light switch and flicking it on. Wait..wrong idea? She stopped in the doorway and raised a brow, putting a hand on one hip and leaning against the frame. "And why would anyone get the wrong idea? I have a boyfriend, Lance." She tsked, though she did look behind the door to find the hook that would keep it open. Only after that did she actually inspect the room itself, not at all surprised by it; so many rooms in this place were like a room you would find in an insane asylum. Fitting. But there was one thing that got her attention more than anything else.

Lance had a goddamn laptop.

"Jealoooous." Candace blurted out at the sight of it, suddenly pining for the laptop she hadn't seen since before her recruitment. She missed it, it had almost her entire life on that thing. Perhaps it was best she didn't get it back then...but..but still! She wanted her laptop, damnit!

Of course noticing the laptop meant she also had to see his covered leg and bandaged chest and the sight made her wince quietly with guilt. That could have been avoided if they had gone to the lounge. Damnit.

Considering what it did to a full-fledged seasoned ex-Sun Hunter? You would probably have died. Remember that. Candace frowned. He could have died, too. She could almost feel Atropos rolling eyes she didn't have. I don't care about him. I care about your well-being.

Candace took her shoes off out of habit before sitting in the chair she was being offered, bringing her legs up onto it to sit indian style and holding her ankles. "Thanks. Uh..I just came to see how you were doing. I...I wanted to apologize for what I did that day." He was coherent and alert. Not was a good time to finally apologize.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 04, 2012 7:41 pm

The man openly snickered at Candace's reply. "Suuure you do, just like I have a pet dog kept at Outpost Kennel named Bleu." He shook his head and glanced down at his laptop, tapping a few keys.

"I wouldn't be, unless you wanna do work." He turned the laptop around enough for her to see. It was streaming what looked to be camera footage. Even while under bedrest, it appeared that he was still hard at work. Or was he? It was hard to get a good look at his menu bar. He could have easily alt-tabbed to the video footage to cover up his Facebook or YouTubing.

...Goddamn higher ranking Hunters and their toys.

The buzzing of the light overhead was loud as Candace took her seat, the bedridden hunter saying nothing as he waited for her to speak. When she did, he arched his eyebrow at her. "Thanks for the check-up, but... What are you apologizing for?"

Candace pouted at the man's disbelief. "Jerry Collins, Sun trainee. I bet your dog is beautiful. One day I'll bring it a bone to chew on for being such a good dog."

She leaned forward to get a good look at the footage on the laptop screen, actually looking genuinely interested in what was streaming. At least all hope was not lost with the monitors out of commission for the time being! "That doesn't look terrible. Oh! There's a trainee who's apparently good with electronics. Hopefully he'll be able to do something about the broken monitors in the lounge." Candace told him with a proud smile, actually glad Aria had said she didn't care what division they were from right now. Deryk was death, but he was useful!

Wait...he didn't know what she was apologizing for? Candace blinked. "For...deviating from checking the Mist tower like you told us to? And for not..thinking to come here and check things out?" Her eyes darted up toward the buzzing light a few times though she did her best to ignore it. Just ignore it...just..just ignore it.

Augh it's so ******** annoying! Candace glared up at the light but said nothing, turning a more pleasant look back to Lance after deciding to just deal with it for now. She'd just turn it off it if got to be too much. "So you're doing better? That's good. I was worried when Aria told me what kind of injuries you sustained." Did she really not need to apologize? But..but she messed up! Didn't she?
PostPosted: Sat Feb 04, 2012 8:25 pm

"Blue-ribbon champion of duck hunting," Lance retorted proudly, a smirk gracing his features. "You're still rather new to how things work around here, aren't cha trainee? But I don't think our companions of choice are what we're here to talk about." He dropped the topic, running a hand through his hair and moving on.

He said nothing as she mentioned the death trainee, giving her a nod of approval when she informed him. That was good news; electronics weren't his strong suit. Hell, his desk was still covered with manuals and information regarding the weapons and devices he was still learning about for his Sun training. Didn't matter that he wasn't of that division anymore. It was a matter of pride to finish what he had started, even if it meant looking like a Death or Life hunter with his nose in a book.

When Candace responded, Lance stared. Then he offered her a shrug. "And?" He asked, "The bigger and more dangerous things make the loudest noises. It's the quiet ones that are the more dangerous." He shrugged again, adding, "Besides, the signal that was coming from the 'Tower zipped off once the other trainees were coming."

Lance glanced down at the bulk of his broken leg, considering. He couldn't hide the slight twist of a grin on his lips as he thought, tapping his fingers. Slowly he shook his head, closing his laptop and leaning back with a sigh. "She worries too much," he laughed. "A bang-up job like this isn't unusual for me. I've had worse, though I probably scared the hell out of her with how bad it looked. It's always the blood. The more you're covered in, the worse it looks. It doesn't even matter if most if it isn't your's; it's always assumed that it is."

He took a deep breath, considered, then let it out without adding anything more to the subject.

...She hadn't needed to apologize. All that time she spent stressing over how she was responsible for him nearly dying, all that guilt she had felt..it'd been for no reason. That actually bothered her a lot. On the one hand he agreed it was a good idea to head for the loud noises that were a clear sign of danger, but on the other..all that needless stress. She could have put effort into more useful things like passing the goddamn Deathsweeper. Ugh! But she kept her discomfort off her face, instead smiling and giving a slow nod. "That was my logic...maybe whatever we fought at the gates was what was at the tower."

Candace watched him look down at his leg and then look thoughtful, her head tilting to one side. It was interesting to watch a person when they were lost in their own thoughts, when they didn't realize the unguarded expressions on their faces. "She does?" She looked down at her own bandaged leg. It was nearly healed, just a couple more days to be safe and then she'd attempt the Sun and Moon courses. Was worrying too much the reason why she felt she needed to forbid Candace from doing anything while on the mend? "I can imagine being a Sun hunter means you get used to being injured." Her smile fell, replaced by a worried frown as her eyes darted toward the door. Stupid Sun hunters...always getting hurt. She'd have to see what she could do about that. "She did say you were basically just chilling on the couch finishing a cigarette. Way to go." Candace forced her smile back and gave Lance a thumb's up, turning in the chair so she could sit with her back against one arm of it and her legs draped over the other.

"Has she always been that way?" She was suddenly very curious about Aria's behavior. She'd put herself into a panic over Lance but here Lance was basically saying it wasn't as bad as it looked.

"Eh, good guess." Lance shrugged, then reached over and tapped his headset. "But whenever something like that comes up, having someone on intel to verify that saves you time and prevents whatever you're after from getting away. I don't think you guys have gotten an opportunity to use trackers yet." He paused, adding, "Then again, I think they're in the process of upgrading them. You'll get experience with them soon enough. Besides, I don't think Aria's issued headsets yet... then again, there hasn't been a need for'em, what with the advent of cellphones."

He fell silent, looking up and nodding to Candace in affirmation on both points. "Sun's are the front line. If you have a close combat weapon, you're going to get hurt. We're all about the offense; Moons are supposed to cover and watch our backs. If they move ahead, then we either push forward ourselves or watch their's in return." Lance laughed, jerking a thumb at his chest. "It's nothing big. You get used to it after awhile, and besides. Y'know where the infirmary is? You either heal fast, or get roped into a Life experiment."

His mirth faded as the topic changed. The sun hunter leaned forward, elbows resting on the laptop. "She has," he stated bluntly. "And she'll probably be the only division leader to ever give two ******** about her trainees. If I was still in Sun, I'd have been told to walk it off." He straightened up, shrugging. "For now you guys have each other. When you get to my rank? Most of everyone you trained with is either stationed off isle, or dead. It becomes a dog eat dog world out there to the point where my group learned that your job only ends when you're dead."

"The Mists, now? You're lucky to start off in'em. They're not like the other divisions. Consider how much training you guys get to go through compared to the other divisions; you're expected to learn a little bit of everything instead of specializing. You guys are valuable; it'd suck to lose all that time spent in training ya, right?" Lance grinned shrugging. "That's the official stance. Unofficially? Aria..." He trailed off, catching himself. "Aria's different. She actually cares. I mean, hell. Look at me." He spread his arms wide, then nodded towards his wheel chair. "I'm a waste of Deus space. I should've been killed or stored in a pod, but out of the blue comes a girl I never made it to second base with, saving my a**."

Lance laughed, sinking back against his pillows. "Man, listen to me yammer on. I'm sorry about that -- I guess I've been sick of being lonely here and took the first opportunity I could get to go on and on. You're... Candace, right? How's your training been going? From what I gather, you've gotten the Aria Treatment too."

Candace shook her head. "Not yet. We've gone after tracked creatures but we haven't dealt with the actual trackers...and we usually only get headsets when we're actually on missions...are you saying we get assigned permanent headsets?" As in headsets they didn't have to return and have to ask permission to have later? She hoped that was what he meant. Having a headset she could call her own would be pretty awesome.

Wait...only close combat was needed for Sun? She suddenly sat up. Jerry had a bazooka! He...he didn't have to be Sun! He could be Moon! But oh god she didn't want to know what he'd do if it really as his entire duty to be defensive and take their hits. He did that enough as it was and every time he did it terrified her. She didn't want to think about it. "I got told I have good qualities for a sun hunter. Nothing perfect but along the right track, apparently." She sunk down a bit in the chair, raising her hands above her head and gazing up at the glowing purple rings she wore on each hand. Candace's face couldn't help but light up with pride every time she laid eyes on Atropos be it in her unsummoned or summoned forms. She loved her weapon. Were it not for Lance speaking again she would have just allowed herself to converse solely with Atropos with outwardly silent glee.

Candace's hands dropped to rest against her stomach, crossing one leg over the other and looking Lance's way. Ah, so it wasn't just something Candace assumed! Aria really was the only leader that cared. "I noticed that...she's the only leader I've encountered who doesn't take personal amusement in treating her trainees like disposable toys they can just humiliate or throw carelessly to the side when they get bored." She tipped her head back to stare up at the buzzing light above her, pouting at it and turning her gaze away so as not to blind herself and also to continue ignoring it. Stationed off isle or dead...she didn't want to think about that. "I'll keep that in mind, Lance." Candace said quietly, though she did perk up when he said she was lucky.

"I like that though! Being able to do a bit of this a bit of that, being useful for all situations. And I love a challenge, and pushing myself." She said with a cocky grin, falling quiet as he spoke of Aria and himself.

...What was that pause about? "..She does care." She smiled, shifting more comfortably in the chair. "A girl you'd never even--wow, Lance. Wow." Candace laughed and rolled her eyes. "So second base is saving your a** level? Good to know."

When Lance suddenly apologized she grinned and shook her head. She was having fun. "No, it's fine. I understand. And yes, I'm Candace. Uh, it's...it's going okay. I do well on missions. I've managed to get out of a lot of them mostly unharmed and stuff, you know? But Aria's got me doing all the training courses. Don't get me wrong, I literally asked for it. Just...I seem to do better when I'm actually on the field doing a mission than I am in these training courses. I did okay in the tower, I could have done so much better..Life was a surprisingly difficult task." Her face grew dark as she sank lower into her chair. "And then there was the Deathsweeper." She said with definite hatred. ******** that course.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 05, 2012 5:17 am

Lance shrugged. "It used to be that way. Now, I'm not sure how Aria wants to run it. Since you guys have cellphones, you're probably expected to use those instead. A headset on the isle just means I'd keep in contact with you guys and can give you advice if you're, say, in the middle of training and have no idea what to do next." Really, the headsets were starting to fall out of fashion. He wasn't even sure if he still had his Sun headset or walkie talkie. Did Candace even know what a walkie talkie was? He decided to refrain from asking.

He couldn't help but to grin at Candace, chuckling quietly at how she gazed at her rings. "Yeah, you do. If I was still Sun, I'd probably try to recruit you. As it is, Suns are best at dealing damage. Most are close range, but there are some that attack from a distance too. All that matters is being able to deal a lot of damage. Speed doesn't matter, so long as you leave things dead. It's pretty simple, but that's how the Suns rolled." A note of longing tinged his voice. He missed it. He missed being able to prove himself in that way, missed the excitement and rush of a fight. Lance kept his eyes on Candace, pushing the thoughts of his useless legs from his mind. It didn't matter how many times he resented it; there was no way to fix it. And like hell he would even consider taking up that crazy Lifer's suggestion of replacing his legs with golem legs. He had his points of pride still, cripple or not.

Like now. His grin widened as he leaned forward, taking on a lecherous note. "Well now, wanna find out what happens when I get to third base with someone?" He purred, giving her a broad wink. "At this time I'd promise you wouldn't regret it, but I'm currently working my magic on someone else. Sorry kid, maybe some other time. Or if you ever get tired of this so-called boyfriend of your's..."

Lance trailed off with a grin, listening. "Well," he began, "The training courses are an obvious set-up. They're not the same every time, and it's both a matter of training and luck. They're just like on the field: unpredictable. You may think you know what you're getting into, then something comes from outta the blue to smack you." He shook his head, grimacing. "I'm glad I can't exactly run those anymore myself. Then again, I can't exactly run anywhere anymore." He couldn't hide the bitterness from his voice. Even if it was several months, his state was a bitter pill for him to swallow.

And yet... "Heh. Deathsweeper, huh? How many golems did you get to go through? You should be lucky -- there was a time when we had to run through that in person."

"Oh for around here? Didn't know they used to do that." She idly bounced her legs while lounging in the chair, nodding at Lance's words. That made sense. And yes she did know what a walkie talkie was. But she only ever saw them use headsets for missions, it never even crossed her mind that they could have used them on the island on a regular basis at one time. But now that she thought about it, it made sense.

Lance confirmed what Clarice said and she chuckled, grinning his way and shaking her head. "Nah, I'm happy in Mist. I have a great leader, I get to do something I love which is just...know how to do everything.." She turned in the seat so she was more on her side and facing Lance as comfortably as she could, which was a bit hard with how she had decided to lounge in the chair. This was nice, talking to a hunter who wasn't of some kind of high leadership position. She didn't feel the need to impress him or assure him she wouldn't disappoint him; it was a very nice change of pace. But why was he staring at her? She blinked, tilting her head to one side and almost using the arm of the chair as a pillow. "..Something wrong?" Why was he staring? The way she was sitting wasn't exactly a way that showed off her body so it couldn't be him checking her out...was there something on her face? He was so quiet. It was weird.

Annnnd then he grinned in a way that seemed all too familiar by now and she grinned right back. "Oooh~. How you tempt me, Sir Lance. I don't doubt you know how to show a girl a good time." It seemed the men on this island who had been here a long time were very good at that. "Ah ah ah, I'm spoken for. Considering what I've gone through with him I don't see myself getting tired of him anytime soon." She had her moments where it was hard for her but relationships weren't easy, apparently. No wonder she'd been avoiding them for so long.

Lance and Aria made good points about these missions. She really should tart following them. They were training...it made sense for training to be harder and crazier than the actual thing so one would be prepared for the Worst Case Scenario. But as his tone turned bitty she frowned and tried really hard not to look at his legs or his wheelchair. "...You could do Life~. It's hardcore jenga with tranquilizer darts and piranha." She said in an attempt to cheer him up even a little. "Whoever was watching me gave me a cat face whenever I was knocked out for failing."

But then he asked about her golems in the deathsweeper. "Aria mentioned that..." 'Not as many deaths'...did people still die doing this? Candace looked unsure for awhile. Did she really want to tell him how bad at it she was?

...Ugh. Fine. Candace sank into the chair until her back was against the actual seat, pouting up at the light above her. "...Ten so far. And I still haven't ******** passed it." She sounded very bitter about this. "I mean, a couple of them were me being stupid yeah...but..but a bunch of them are on the fourth or fifth tile! I can do it! I'm starting to believe the fifth row is just all traps though. Stupid course."
PostPosted: Sat Feb 11, 2012 9:19 pm

"Hey, we still do!" Lance retorted, indicating his own headset. "Er, rather, sometimes. I can't exactly get around, nor am I going to make an appearance anywhere." Lance added bitterly, shrugging. "So far I've only kept in touch with Aria, since she has a headset with her 24/7. We're still working out the quality, otherwise this'll be how I teach you guys." Lance glanced down to his useless legs, frowning. "Unfortunately the only thing I can do at this point is give you vocal feedback. I can't exactly show you guys how to do something and have you copy me."

Lance fell silent, brooding. It was frustrating for him; it was one thing to be able to talk about things. Doing them? That was now impossible. Granted, if it was a hand to hand weapon he could show off the basics. But stances? Movement? The very things that kept you alive? He forgot his basics and paid the price.

He dragged himself from his thoughts, shaking his head ruefully at her suggestion. "Life? No thanks. I had to suffer through those training courses as a trainee. As a hunter, I don't need to wake up with a p***s doodled on my face." He grimaced, adding, "That and probably at this point, it wouldn't surprise me if someone added streamers to my wheel chair. Or take off with it completely." He jerked his chin over towards it. "That's my only way to get around, Candace. Without it, I'm stranded. I may be only half a man, but I still have my pride."

"And speaking of..." He eagerly jumped on the topic change, trying to pin Candace to her chair with his stare. "Luck plays a very important part in being a hunter. Monsters and things aren't like the fairy tales. They're out to kill you. You died ten times. It could have been permanently, but you're still whole and slouching in that chair. You're still alive. That's ten deaths, ten chances to learn what not to do.

"Now. Next time you go back there... What are you going to do differently?"

Candace frowned as Lance commented on not being able to make appearances anywhere. Could he never leave the Mist lounge? Ever? "...That sound lonely." Candace said gently, sitting up straighter in the chair. She was still slouching just not as much. He certainly did have a lot of limitations in teaching them, but he seemed like a smart enough man surely he could figure something out to make things work. There had to be things they could do to work around his handicap. There just had to be. "I'm sure there's still things you can show us. All hope can't be lost." She told him with a renewed smile of hope and encouragement. "There's a solution for every problem, Lance. Just think positively." Candace hated to see someone so down in the dumps, even if he had every right to be depressed and bitter. She wouldnt pry on how it happened, it was none of her business, but she could at least do her best to help get his mind off it. Or at least change his perspective.

Thankfully the mention of drawing a p***s on someone's face brought out the mature side of Candace. The side of her that snorted with laughter imagining poor Lance waking up with obscene doodles in permanent marker on his face. "Sometimes I wonder if Life needs more to do. I mean, they have time to do the thing I've seen them do..." And the things she's done with just their leader who should have been the busiest of them all! Seriously now! But she didn't mention any of that. No way. Even if Lance was the one person she knew word would never get back to Jerry from, she was not telling a damn soul. "..Well, yes. That's a good point. That'd be a pretty ******** up thing to do though, to take someone's wheel chair." She frowned again. "We could get you one of those bonsai trees." It was a joke...unless he agreed to it then she was being totally serious.

The look he was giving her when the topic returned to Deathsweeper shenanigans had her sinking into the chair with a sort of 'oh god what?!' look. The next time she went back? "Well for one I'd like to not die." Candace began, tilting her head back against the arm of the chair again and closing her eyes. "I was starting to get the hang of it though. I'll just not let frustration cloud my judgements again. There were a couple times I just went '******** it!' and purposely stepped on a tile I remembered set off a trap." She needed to work on that a little bit. Her temper was starting to flair up worse and worse and get the better of her, and that kind of behavior was unacceptable. "I expect Aria's going to want to talk about it when I'm done with the other courses, too...do you want to watch next time I do it? Give feedback and stuff?" Candace opened her eyes and turned her head to look Lance's way.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 12, 2012 7:06 pm

Lonely didn't even begin to describe half of it. There was Aria, and yet... Lance simply shrugged. There were some things that you simply didn't talk about. Especially to a trainee, moreso to one that the division leader you wanted to talk about held in high regard. Candace's record was one of the best Lance had seen for a Mist as far as he could tell. Then again, Candace was the face he had seen the most -- he was familiar with her. That in and of itself was enough to make him bite his tongue and keep to his own council.

"No," he said firmly, dismissing the idea. "I'm well enough off. The last thing I need is to go gallivanting about and remember how much I ******** up to get this way." He grimaced, shaking his head. "When you've been here as long as I have, you learn to take your kicks when you can get them. You're still in training. You're expected to spend most of your time training. Life?" He shrugged. "They're off doing anything from experiments to golems. Their freetime is spent waiting. Suns? Spent my freetime brushing up on my gun and weapon knowledge."

He lapsed into silence, eyes narrowing at her suggestion. "A bonsai tree." Lance repeated flatly. "A tree for a place that doesn't get any sunshine. Where would you get it? That thing would probably die within a week." He shook his head, dismissing the idea. "Get a plastic plant instead. That way all you'd need to do is dust it off."

Lance sat up and shifted slightly. He looked puzzled before he closed his eyes and exhaled sharply, falling back against his pillows. Idiot. "I don't know what Aria's up to," he said simply. "But I'd imagine she'll wish to speak to you about your performance. With Deathsweeper... I can't offer much advice," he said simply, shrugging. "That's all about luck and movement. Shadow run? I can help a bit with that. Maybe."

He ran both hands through his hair as he sighed, leaning back. "...I'm sorry," he said curtly. "I keep thinking that I'll get used to being this damn useless and become content with myself. That's not something that's happening anytime soon." He dropped his hands to his sides.

"It doesn't matter what division you are. Lose your temper, and you're bound to lose your head." He sat up and twisted around, shoving his pillows together in an attempt to fluff it up and make it more comfortable. "Next time you go in, stop in at the quartermaster and get a headset. My frequency is 586.268. When you get the headset, text me the runic number assigned to'em, and I'll tune you in. If you're planning on using them for awhile, get one that's comfortable. And don't lose it," he added looking at her thoughtfully. "Then again, if you lose it, it might be an... interesting experience for you..."

Oh dear, he didn't take any amusement in her suggestion. But Candace was determined not to let him get to her, to keep the air in the room light and as pleasant as possible. "I would get it during a mission~. And there's plenty of plants that don't need sunlight, I'm sure." But the suggestion of plastic made her scoff. "Plastic plants are for crotchety old ladies and soccer moms, of which I'd like to think you're neither." Candace said simply, grinning. "I can argue 'til the cows come home~." Or until she got her way.

She watched as he fell back to lie down on the bed and raised a brow. That was annoyance, clear irritation. Was she pissing him off? Oh dear, maybe she was going too far. Sighing, Candace climbed out of the chair and walked over to the other side of the room, sitting down on the edge of the bed where there was space. "Am I bothering you now~? I understand. Sometimes I go too far without meaning to. Terrible habit. I apologize." She also didn't seem to give much of a damn about personal space.

At Lance's apology Candace sighed and shook her head, smiling fondly. "I don't think anyone would fault you for feeling this way. I've only just met you but I can already see you've lost a lot. I think it'd be worrisome if you were cheerful and happy-go-lucky." Candace mused, bringing one leg up so her heel was on the edge of the bed and hugging it to her chest, placing her head on her knee. "I still stand by the idea you're not useless, you're just still adjusting. If you don't mind me asking...how long..?" He didn't have to answer, and quite frankly Candace didn't expect an answer. Besides, he changed the subject back to her moments later anyway. It was true, losing one's temper was a very bad idea. She had to keep reminding herself frustration did not help anything. You'd think she'd know that, but her life had been full of what was now trivial stress compared to her life now. A girl didn't have to worry about waking up one day and possibly not the next in law school. This was a huge change, but she liked to think she was adjusting alright.

"Literally, even? Hm...I'll keep that in mind. Easy enough number to remember." But nevertheless she reached into her pocket for her phone and noted the number down; she didn't specify what the number was, simply entering the number itself, but she was confident she would know what it was for later when she looked at it again. "So they'll let me just..keep one? I've only ever been given a headset for short-term missions, and the external mission I led recently."

Candace paused at his warning. An..interesting experience? "..Do tell."
