So I have been seeing around the news something that relates to this group. With the new Obamacare barrelling down the road. The whole idea of contraception comes into play. The short of the story is that Obamacare would allow any employer who is opposed to birth control to not cover it with their health insurance. Turns out that this is already something they have kind of dealt with in Hawaii.

Basically in Hawaii if you are a religious organisation you can opt out of paying for contraception in your health insurance plan. However, they are required to provide the name of a third party to provide the coverage. Plus you cannot pay more than what your company would have had to pay. Basically this is what appears to be the coming compromise.

The only difference is who can deny that portion of a health insurance plan. It has become broader to say that if the person paying for it is opposed to the idea that he or she can not include it. Which kind of scares me because who is to say that one year your health insurance could have birth control the next it might not, then it might again. You know so on and so forth.

While this really does not affect me. I as I am male, condoms are cheap, females do not want to have sex with me in general, and I have no plans to use health insurance to get a vasectomy. Since I am pretty much the only guy left. I was kind of curious as to what you ladies thought about this whole thing?

Thankfully I live in a country where this is not an issue, and BC pills are dirt cheap. (However sterilisation procedures are elective and so I would have to pay out of pocket - it would cost me like $5000.)

Having said that, I hate the pill. I like my cycle the way it is and putting all those extra hormones into my system doesn't appeal to me. I stick with condoms and keep my fingers crossed. Probably foolish of me but I can't shake the creeped out feeling I get about the pill.

Well the problem also effects abortions. That is considered part of birth control as well. So if you were to get knocked up you would not be covered for that either.

I do agree with the whole pill thing though. I am not a fan of forcing extra chemicals into my body to prevent stuff. Which is why I am glad to be a male. I can pay a small fee and get the tubes snipped.

I'm not one for the pill. I've tried it before and no thank you. It made me crazy.

That being said, I believe this is a form of discrimination. My boss's religious beliefs shouldn't effect what care I am able to get.
