Hi all. biggrin
I am wondering if anybody follows Hera or worships the dioskuori. On my altar I have representations of Hestia, Zeus, Apollo and others, but I don't have too great of an understanding on including Hera and the twins, so I just wanted to know if anybody had a better understanding of them.
At first, I wasn't sure I should include Hera, being that though I am female I am not married. Then I learned one of her epithets was Hera Teleia, and was worshipped by those who wished to get married, and it seemed appropriate to worship her in this way.
As for the dioskuori, I just don't know how to approach them at all. sweatdrop
So if anyone has ideas outside of "A pomegranite for Hera!" please do tell. heart

I've sent you all the Hellenic links, yeah?

Hera has totally the best symbol: peacocks. ALL THE PEACOCK FEATHERS.

For the Dioscuri, maybe stars, an egg, little men on horseback or a Gemini symbol.

Also YAY it's 'Taku! **snuggles**

Yes, welcome me for my first post ever even though I was invited when it first opened. cool
Oh yes, the peacock feathers, I forgot. x3
question Where does an egg figure into the twins? Stars and a Gemini symbol I get but... egg?
I was thinking, being twins and such, it wouldn't be terrible for them to share a candle, but I also have a weird thing about my altar being symmetrical, and am not sure where to fit it...
I have to revamp some stuff though, my altar used to just be Hestia with a statue of Bast on the side, though I technically realize Zeus should be up top and whatnot. neutral Not my fault Hestia lead me into this.

They were Leda's sons, weren't they? Hatched out of one egg with their sisters in the other? The story I'm familiar with, their sisters were one of them mortal, one immortal, while the Dioscuri shared immortality between themselves.

Also you are lucky I didn't remove you like I do everyone else who doesn't post scream

Oh, yup. The one I heard though, Polydeuces/ Pollux was definitely immortal, while Castor wasn't, and when Castor was killed Polydeuces asked Zeus to let them share immortality, so he put them in the sky as the constellation Gemini.

I'm exausted, or I'd try and research this myself- but could someone link me to the dioskuori stuff? I've never heard of them.

They are kind of cool. Though the whole rape swan thing always made me uncomfortable (there's a reason I never dealt much with the Greeks or Romans). Still, not their fault where they came from. The Dioskouroi and Hestia are pretty awesome.

Ah - now - see, that sort of depends. There are other myths wherein Zeus makes the women suddenly totally hot for whatever form he happens to be in, or similar. But in this one (or at least, in the version I'm familiar with) she was already hot for swans and Zeus just took advantage of that. I always found that too amusing to be made uncomfortable by it.

Although why he would bother with the whole animal thing I don't really understand. Unless Leda was only into swans, and not into people, so wouldn't have sex with him if he just turned up all manly etc.

Not that a woman not being willing has generally stopped him. xp

Well, really, is there a correct way to tell Zeus "no"?
I always got a little in a funk about Hera punishing those who didn't want to sleep with him but were made to anyways. sweatdrop Which makes worshipping her a bit funky too, so that's partially where Hera under the epithet of Hera Teleia came in.
