Definitely one of those "it's what's on the inside that counts" kinds of fish, he's very personable, always bites the top of the water whenever I walk by the tank thinking I threw food in there, and he likes biting the glass and making funny faces at me to pass the time. He's kinda like a mellowed out oscar fish who will only get 4-6 inches long.
definitely a species that's looked over, they're easy to breed, hardy as heck, and actually prefer some tougher water which is more common from the tap, they'll readily accept most perimeters. Somebody described them as "tough as old boots."
If you're looking for a smaller, somewhat peaceful species of cichlid without giving up the personality of a larger one, these guys might be something to look for, if you're not turned away by the somewhat bland looks
