Melvin was a familiar sight in the library and had been taking out and returning more and more books not sure exactly at times which one had the information that would be vital to his project. At this time he was returning a few books and going to pick a few on other sections of mythology and a few basic ones on how fear progressed and changed in runiced item.
Setting a few books in his arm, he glanced around and spotted Ami. He had never been on great terms with the woman, and he had been debating how to order her to come into his lab for artifact testing.
Easing over, he tried to see what she was up to.

As much as Ami disliked it, the libraries were for everyone. It meant from time to time she was interrupted. Most people just grabbed their books and left once she glared at them enough. Talking loudly would result in a grimace so malicious it was a borderline growl.
Some hunters, however, could not take a hint. She was waist deep in books, yet he was coming over to interact with her anyways. Even worse, it was Melvin.
She tried to ignore him, but no. He stuck around. Without looking up from her work, she poignantly grumbled, "What do you want, trainee?"

Melvin frowned. "Not a trainee." He corrected, and then turned his head to try and make out what she was reading. "Just curious as to what you are researching."

"Intermediate trainee," Ami spat. "Don't get a big head, you're still a trainee.."
Melvin had apparently stirred her enough from her work to garner a response. She even looked up from the books. "It's classified. As in none of your business. Is that all?" Touchy, touchy.

Melvin sat down, not minding how touchy Ami was. He bugged a lot of people. "I'm just asking, my dear dear superior." He said, mocking her attention to rank. If she felt she was higher, he'd pamper that ego a bit but have some fun with it.
"I only hold a interest in research, that's all."

"A life hunter? Interested in research? Groundbreaking," Ami responded, shrugging off his obviously mocking tone. She had no obligation to be nice, unfortunately.
She wrote something down and gave him a look. "Now that you've declared something entirely useless, I'll ask again. Is that all?" She went back to writing, slow and pensive strokes with her pencil. "I'm sure you're more than aware we don't waste time here."moonkitsune aslkdjf i just love how much they bicker xD <3

chimarii Melvin tends to bicker with lots of people.
Setting his hands under his chin, he watched her. "I heard you were successful with an artifact hunt. Is that true?" He knew it was true, but you had to start somewhere.

"Success is relative," was her dry respond. She calming flipped a page, examined its contents then moved back.
Ami looked up at the man quickly. "What are you really after Melvin? Don't tease now~"

He watched her turn a page. "I want information on your artifact. I need it for research." No point in dancing around it if she just wanted to get to the point.
Also curious, he turned his head to try and read the cover of the book she was flipping through.

"What research specifically?" she swung straight back. "And what are you willing to do to get such information."
A pointed flick of her pen. "Information of that sort is not free you know," she responded dejectedly, hand carefully pushing the edge of the book down, so as to prevent him from even reading the cover.

Turning his head straight again as he couldn't read the cover anymore, though instead tried to gaze on the written page, Melvin thought about it. "Artifact database in order to lead to improving future runics. They are items that react to fear after all, and ones that had been protects for ages by Halloween. Every artifact has the potential to give us a edge, or so I hope." Not that he was even remotely an optimist.
Still trying to read her page from where he sat, he glanced up at her. "I can't even begin to imagine what you deem as valuable. I'm sure you'd consider the limitations someone of my rank has since you love to point it out so much, and that I wouldn't be in the highest paygrade. Most hunters have the common decency just to volunteer the information without cost."

There was a pause at the mention of a database. Her mind worked quickly, connecting the dots. She could potentially use the information in her own database. At the same time, he could be using the information for his own benefit. Creating "future runics" could've just been a buzzword after all.
Besides, her artifact was her own to possess and do with as she pleased. Unless Dr. H or Clarice directly told her to hand it over, she had no such obligation to do anything for anyone.
"Most hunters that do favors are wasting their own potential advances," she concluded grimly. "I will not be one such as those, as you've most likely noticed I do not give a s**t about human kindness. Don't attempt to guilt me with the masses." She sighed lightly. "You could go on to notice I didn't ask for monetary compensation, Melvin." She gave him a sharp eyed looked with a thin smile. "I asked what you are willing to do."

He leaned back, and considered what she said. "I'm not a mind reader, and don't know what you even value. I'm not going to pretend that I know, and I'm not going to waste time doing a guessing game here. I can offer you a favor in return, something that won't wind up smearing my name or ruining my own projects, as this is just a request for research to be done and not something completely ridiculous. So a favor in return in the limits of what I'm capable of even doing." He liked to add disclaimers after all. He wasn't going to run naked down some hallway or do something that would take away his lab time from him. If it harmed his work or his reputation, he'd be against it.
"Does that sound fair to you?"

"Ah, now you're getting closer," she said lackadaisically. Ami had no concern for Melvin's time- she could play this game all day. "It's unwise to ask for a favor without having something prepared first, dear boy."
Leaning back in her chair, she sighed and rolled her eyes. "How good are you at lifting books? Your arms look a bit scrawny."
