Appearances weren't the first thing on Hard Truth's mind, but they weren't the last, either. Particularly when fillies were involved, the young unicorn found himself feeling more self-conscious about how he looked. The trouble was that he wasn't sure what the opposite gender looked for in a colt or stallion. Good hygiene and things like a well-kept mane and tail were obvious, but...what about the smaller things that were a matter of opinion? Subjective ideas of style?

The trouble was that he wasn't sure what the opposite gender looked for in a colt or stallion. Good hygiene and things like a well-kept mane and tail were obvious, but...what about the smaller things that were a matter of opinion? Subjective ideas of style? He pondered this as he stared into the glass window reflection of a Phonyland Boutique shop. Truths wanted to look nice for his upcoming planned picnic with Jasmine Tea, but what could have made him stand out more so than usual? A suit and tie might have been nice, but he hardly had the money to purchase such finery as a foal. Still, there had to have been something. In an experimental attempt, he reached a hoof up to brush back his short, choppy mane, unable to do much with it, but wondering how it would look combed back just the same. So engrossed was he in this that he didn't consider that he could have been caught gazing at his reflection by any passing phony.
