You may not know it yet, but as the Goddess of Little Fish, you are tasked with a responsibility to care for one of the largest populations on Telrunya. It's a big job, but you are ready for it.
Fish from the south have come seeking you out. They beg for your help to save their home and the lives of all the other fish near the delta for the Waplei Marsh. They claim a monster has been terrorizing them and that you, Mnemo, are the only one who can help.
You only have until the beginning of February to help these little fish, or their home will be destroyed and the monster moves on to feed on other fish in the lake.
((You must figure out how to deal with, and rid the delta of the monster that is terrorizing the fish population. The next prompt will come after the task is completed.))

In a rare sighting, the little orange slug Naiad was on the land today. She was combing Pae Kippu beach, trying to help the poor little beached critters. She didn't understand how she knew, but she'd heard their little agonizing cries for help when she swam by earlier in the morning. Curiously, she surfaced and noticed sand dollars and sea stars stuck on the dry sand, crying in pain. Quickly, she scurried out of the water to go rescue them. Many she was too late to save, but she still collected their empty bodies to take back into the water with her when she was done. She was happy that she was able to make a difference in the lives of the few sand dollars and sea stars she did save this afternoon.
Sitting with her feet just out of range of the surf, she examined the little shells of the dearly departed creatures. She was sad for them, but she knew their beautiful shells would become useful still. It wasn't even a passing thought in her mind how she even knew there were suffering critters on the beach. She just went to help because she knew she was needed.
But from just below the surface of the water, directly in front of where she sat, she heard the quietest little voices. "Miss! Mistress!" Mnemo looked around thinking maybe she was hearing from the wrong direction. No one on the beach seemed to be trying to get her attention. She heard it again. "Miss! Miss! In the water."Quirking a brow, she was curious and a little scared now. "Who's there?""Miss! Come to the water."Oh dear. "Who's there? Who's calling me?""Miss, please. We need your help." Oh, well in that case, Mnemo rolled over and crawled to the surf, sticking her head under the water to see who was calling for her. Her body began to react to the hydration and changed to her aquatic form as she eased into the water to see if there was a Naiad there."That's her!" "We found her!" "Yay!"There was a few little voices now, but they weren't coming from anywhere. Instead, three little fish floated in front of her, staring at her. Their gazes made her a little uncomfortable. "Uhm, do you know who's looking for me?" She asked the trio."We are!" she heard the three voices in unison. Talking to fish wasn't something new to Mnemo, but usually they kept to themselves. And she didn't recognize these three. "Uhm, hi?" she said anxiously, giving a little nervous wave."Mistress, you have to help us!""Uhm," she wasn't sure what they needed help with, but fish couldn't really get themselves into too much danger right? Sand dollars were dim and wandered to the beach during high tide, and that wasn't too hard to help with. "What's wrong?"

Mnemo followed the little distressed fish until she realized where they were going. "Oh no! No, I can't go there!" Her mother had warned Mnemo not to go near the Waplei Delta. Reports of dangerous things happening there had been flooding in to the palace.
"Please, you have to, Miss."
"My name is Mnemo, you don't have to call me Miss. But I can't go there. My mother forbade it."
The little fish look to one another and back to the slug Naiad. They shrug their little fins and continue pleading. "You are the only one who can save our families."
"Me? How can I... do anything." A hint of sadness crept into her voice. "I can't help you. I think you have mistaken me for someone else."
The little fish looked confused, and felt pity for the poor Naiad. They swam up to her slowly and gently patted her on the shoulders with a fin. "Miss, you are exactly who we were looking for. We know you can do it. Who better to scare off the monsters than our Goddess?"
"W...what? Oh now I know you have the wrong Naiad. Maybe I could send word to the palace and get the Queen-"
"No, we do not seek the Queen's help; we need yours."
"But... I can't."
"We know you can! Please help us!"
Mnemo fidgeted and wrung her hands together nervously glancing around. She knew she wasn't who they were looking for, and she knew she wasn't allowed to go near the Waplei Delta. And to face a monster? How in the world could she help. "I ... can help find someone who--"
"No Miss Mnemo, you. We know you can do it. You are kind, loving, compassionate, strong and ... our Goddess. We know you won't let us down."
These fish were good. They played on her guilt in the worst way. But knew nothing of this Goddess title they kept using. Unless 'goddess' mean 'abomination' then maybe they did have the right Naiad. But she had her doubts.
"Uhm, what kind of monster is it?"
"Big fish! Lots of teeth. Very pointy. Many spikes. Really fast!"
Oh dear.
"Come! Come! Everyfish will be so glad to see you!" Both the fish swam to Mnemo's back to push her towards their destination.
Mnemo reluctantly swam, scared to death how she was gonna face a monster like that. She wasn't strong, she had no special abilities. She had delicate parts unlike most Naiad. What am I going to do?

It wasn't very far, because fish swim a lot faster than Pae'il can run or fly. Even if they're pushing a reluctant slug Naiad. She argued the entire way, absolutely certain they could find a better candidate to be their monster-slayer. But the little fish were relentless in making sure Mnemo accompanied them.
Mnemo hadn't really been to this part of the lake before. The waters were shallower and there was a very pretty and colorful coral reef surrounding the floor. So many little fish darting in and out of the nooks and crannies, hiding in the anemones. She even spotted a sea star or two and she wondered if they could have been ones she's met before.
"This way Miss Mnemo. Beyond the coral."
Darn. It was pretty there and I might have had some help. At least those aren't the fish being terrorized.
Just up over the coral, where the water moved a little faster was a bit more dreadful. Moss and algae covered bits of sunken wood, kelp and other plants drifted in the current. She didn't see many fish. A deep sense of dread swept over her as she looked around to see if the monster was nearby.
"She's here!" the little fish announced.
Mnemo immediately went into panic mode and looked for the nearest hole to hide in. Instead of the monster rolling out like she initially thought, many little fresh water fish peeked out from behind the floating plants, cautiously swam out of their own hidey holes and all came out to greet their Goddess.
"Hooray!" "We're saved!"
Mnemo bit her lip. She was so gonna let these poor little fish down in the worst way. But, she really did want to help them, she just didn't think she was the right Naiad for the job. If they had faith in her, least she could do it try. Even if every fiber of her being was telling her to swim. Swim far, swim fast. She smiled awkwardly and gave a little wave. "Uhm, hi."
"Hooray!"
The two little fish that had guided her to their home swam up close to her head. "We much prepare you for battle! The monster will come at anytime."
B-b-battle? She gulped hard and her eyes grew wide.
Before she could even blink, she was surrounded in a flurry of swarming fish, silt and what felt like poking sticks. Something tickled and something pricked and she had no idea what was going on. "W-w-what's ... what are you doing?"
After a few moments, the fish spread out, surrounding her on all sides. Mnemo floated there donned in the make-shift set of armor the fish had prepared for her. She had little bits of fish bones, seashells, rocks and wood all tied together with some seaweed and bits of plants. It draped in some places, poked into her skin in others. All in all, she looked ridiculous. But the fish were all so proud and excited and gasped as their shiny Goddess was prepared to fight and save them.
She had a tiny little skull tied to her forehead and she tried to cross her eyes to see it, because she felt very weirded-out wearing skulls of dead fish.
"Goddess, we have a special present for you, to aid you in your battle." A little trout said as a couple others, with a lot of effort, dragged a very beautifully decorated silver dagger through the loose sand.
Mnemo very slowly and gingerly lifted the dagger, afraid to move cuz the armor might fall off. It was a very pretty and shiny thing. Pearls decorated the handle with little bits of abalone shell. "Wow."
"You can use that to kill the monster!"
What? This little sharp pointy thing to kill a big monster? She sighed. She was going to die today. Well, at least she'd go down trying to save innocent little fishies. Lethe was probably going to be mad at her. She had a brief thought if she could still be punished if she was dead.

"Here he comes!" The little fish all yelled in unison then scattered to go hide in the holes and under the land debris (garbage). Mnemo was left floating among the stirred silt, looking incredibly silly with the provided 'armor' and dagger-for-a-sword.
She gulped hard, her stomach turning to knots. Oh no, oh no, oh no! In the murky, stirred up silt from the delta, she could see a very faint shadow approaching. Panic was setting in and all she could do is dart back and forth trying to figure out what to do. Swim. Just swim. The fish can survive, look how good they hide!
No, save the fish. You can do this. Who ever that voice was, Mnemo wished it would shut up and let her swim for her life.
"Oooh, Lethe will be so mad at me!" she nervously whispered as she stopped and watched the shadow grow bigger the closer it got. The thing had to be at least ... ten feet long! It was so hard to see and tell cuz those little fish stirred up the sediment and destroyed visibility.
The shadow lunged for her! She squealed and cowered, covering her head with one arm and wildly waving the other with the dagger in front of her. Nothing happened. She opened one eye, then the other. She dropped her arms and looked around. Behind her, she just saw a piece of land garbage floating along with the current. She sighed deep, letting out lots of little bubbles from her gills. Was that the monster?
A little fish yelled out in pain. Mnemo felt the pain. "Oh no! Where are you!?" she called out. The little fish's thoughts were silenced and Mnemo felt pangs of guilt. She failed that little guy. She couldn't let that happen again. That poor little fish left behind a wife and several hundred children. With new resolve, she charged towards the murky water, where she'd felt the crying fish's presence. There was a smaller shadow, this one at least fish-shaped, swimming around like he owned the place.
Mnemo was so furious she shook her fist, causing most of her armor fall off. She still held tight to the dagger and shouted obscenities to taunt the bully. "You...you scaleless derpfish! Fight someone your own size!" She was ready to fight and defend these fish now.
The fish-shaped shadow heard her taunts and darted straight for her. Out of the murky water and silt, a little goldfish with huge tusks (about 3mm -- huge for a gold fish, considering they don't have any) darted straight for her. She was stunned frozen and the ornery tusked-goldfish latched on to the first body part he find: one of her tentacle-fins on her tail.
"Ow ow ow! Stop that!" She plucked the thing off her tail and held it around its tiny body. The little jowls chomping at her ferociously. Persistent little bugger. "You are causing all the mayhem around here?" She asked of the little bully.
It didn't respond to her at all. Odd. Usually fish respond. Maybe this one can't talk or speaks a different language. She let the little dagger fall to the ground and brought her hand and flicked the goldfish flat on the nose. It's eyes crossed a moment before going back to chomping at the water.
She turned towards where all the little fish were hiding. "Is this the monster?" she asked.
All the little fish peeked there little heads out and agreed. That's the monster that was terrorizing them and eating their family members. One at a time. A few a day.
Mnemo just held the little chomper firmly and looked dumbfounded. She didn't know what to do with the thing. She never saw a goldfish with tusks before either, and felt this needed further investigation. She'd bring it home with her and keep it in a cage or something. Maybe one of those old lobster traps she gathered would work.
"Hooray! She saved us!" came the chorus from the fish as they came out of hiding. "Our Goddess saved us! All hail Mnemo!"
"What?"
"Hooray!"
After a few minutes of praises, Mnemo cracked a half smile. She actually saved these little fish and became their hero. She floated down the middle of the waterway, giving a little wave as she passed by most of the fish.
"Hooray!"
The fame did go to her head a little bit. She turned to address the group. "If you ever need help again, just call on me. I'll be here." She puffed out her chest and put one hand on her hip, mindful of how close she let the chomper near her body.
"Hooray!"
And after several more minutes of waving and little bows to her admiring fans, she started to head back home. The little chomper was relentless so she plucked a drifting coconut shell from the surface of the water to shove in his mouth till they got home.
((Her task is done, she saved the fish. But she has a new one now: tending to the tainted bite, and explaining to Lethe why she's keeping a tainted goldfish as a pet.))

Mnemo has successfully protected and defended a school of fish that had been terrorized by a Tainted goldfish. The fish are very grateful to their Goddess and are delivering that dagger to Mnemo's home as thanks. She needs to hang on to that dagger.
Successfully completing this task has pleased her family, and she has been granted an invitation to Dolandor; mist-shrouded island home of the Pae'il Deity. This invitation is a special privilege, so don't squander it. wink
=======================
A pink, chubby little mellon in a snorkel bobbed and wobbled in the water as he tried to swim to the home of Mnemo, Goddess of Fish. His water soaked diaper along with his package weighed him down a bit. He had to deliver the package to Mnemo. His package was a thin slate, etched with a message.
Quote: My Dearest Granddaughter,
Why must you live in water? It is dreadfully tedious to write letters to you.
It is my privilege to personally invite you to my ENGAGEMENT PARTY on February 14, the Day of Love! You may bring a date if you like. There will be dancing, food, a string band and lots of tributes to Me!
Oh, don't worry, there will be lovely tanks for those of you who insist on dwelling in the water.
Requested Gift: An adorable pair of kissing fish for my aquarium.
Love Always, Venus ~
The mellon untied his diaper, letting it sink and immediately started heading towards the surface of the lake, waving to Mnemo as he ascended.
