i dont usually need to ask for an answer to a problem like this but this one has been getting to me... and I cant work on my comp again till tomorrow so I thought I may as well come and ask for a suggestion or 2...

ok...I hvae a problem with my comp.
when I turn it on for it to boot all I get is a long beep. (last about 4-6 seconds)

and no signal is being sent to the monitor.
I checked the power supply. the -5 volt was bad. so I changed it out and still same problem(both 300 watt). I cleaned the entire system out. didnt leave any dust or anything... cleaned the fans and everything...
I checked the ram and even got my friends stick of ram to see if it was my ram(ddr 3200 512mb stick.) that went bad or something but nothing... I even reset my bios and took out the little battery on the motherboard for about 20 minutes...
still nothing...
same problem... soemone told me that it may be that my system is to hot but i dont beleive that would be it... he said they maybe my fan wasnt going fast enough... I recall that I checked out my speeds everything about 2 weeks before just for fun and seen that it was running at a little more than 1000 RPM's ...somewhere between 1000-1150...
I thought about my harddrive... maybe something wrong with it since im not getting anything... even though I would think a screen would load and tell me harddrive failure or something when it starts to boot... but im not ruling that out. I was not able to check to see if this was true ot not... I have not tested this yet with another harddrive...

also... I seen a peice a ram the day it was messed up on my table next to the tower and found out that my sis got a 1gb stick of ram from a friend. it was a munckin or something to that name... and I beleive that she may have tried to put it in the sysem since I showed her how to put it in just for the hek of it...
I think she may hvae tried to put it in herself. and the bad thing about that is that ram doesnt fit into my computer,,, its a 168 pin dimm with 1 dip in it but it is not the right kind... im afraid she may have tried to jam the stick of ram in and it may have did something to the motherboard...
I was wondering if that could be it(I hope it isnt that though.)

This is about all the information I have on this problem...
I just wanted to know if you guys had any ideas about this...
any ideas on what it may be...

(also... obviouly from reading this u know my pc is broken., So i will not be able to check this daily to reply to any comment you have but I will reply to this but it may be a little while before I can get back here to see your replies to this matter...)
also thanks for your time and i hope you guys(and girls), have some good ideas thats I could try to see if it fixes my computer...
I will be on here till about 9:30am central time... which is about in 45 min...

and I may be able to check this tomorrow morning...
thanks for your time... and srry it is so long but I thought the more info. u had the better chance u guys have at guessing what is wrong with my system...
(hope theirs someone good that knows alot about hardware here...)
oh and dont be afraid to get a little technicle. i know a bit about computers... im getting certified for a+ right now...

I moved this
hmmmmm you said no signal from monitor do you have a video card or is it onboard video.your sister could hace seen the shiny piece and wanted to take a look at the video card) if it is a card push it back in (i suggest using a anti static wristband or work on laminate tile or concrete to prevent static shock to your pc) if it works good thing if not this could get expensive buy or retrieve a video card see if your card is bad.

If onboard though get a video card bugular it ,borrow it, buy it. 1 of the 3 B's(i am not a influence for the 1st 1). try it. Some onboard functions go bad after a little while. let me know with updates

its onboard... but still even without video it should not give that beep and the comp should still boot-up... as for a vid card; however, I forgot to mention that I did bring it to school for my class and me and a bud put in a vid card... a cheap 35 dollar one but a vid card non-the-less...
it isnt the vid card either cause we put that same card in another comp to fix that comp about an hour later...

on an off-note... The Wal-Mart where I live at just started selling N-vidia vid cards(5500) at 120 bucks... LOL ... u get get much better deal on the net... the sad thing is my bud that works their said they already sold 50 of them... eek

for vid cards check out www.directron.com they are very resonable. check the monitor plug if there is a bad pin if could be a danger for your mb(mother board) it could send a signal telling the mb shut off.

Check your ram ports see if anything looks bent,or any signs of damage or tampering by lesser knowlaged people. get back to me on dat 1

I never heard of the computer beeping that long. If it was the Ram, the monitor would still turn on. I've taken my ram out to see if it would boot up and it did and the monitor turns on..

One other thing check the pins on the Montior Plug that could be the problem the monitor isn't showing anything.. One time I plugged the monitor in and screwed all the pins up (Good thing it was on a CRT) now I have a LCD screen..

Thats all I can think of..
