In a ridiculously unfortunate, almost comical - but true - series of events, someone has stolen all of UK retailer GAME's stock of special edition Splatoon and Squid Inkling Amiibo sets. Customers who had pre-ordered this special edition received the email below from GAME stating that the lorry transporting the game has been stolen and the company can no longer fulfil these preorders. Customers who purchased the game will now get the standard edition.
Sadly this isn't a wind up. "We can confirm that the lorry transporting the Splatoon stock from Nintendo’s European warehouse to GAME UK has been stolen," confirmed Nintendo in a statement to GamesRadar+. "Included as part of this delivery was GAME’s allocation of the Splatoon + Squid Inkling Amiibo and as a result we are unable to honour pre-orders for this item in GAME. We are working with GAME to contact those customers affected. Whilst these unfortunate circumstances were out of Nintendo UK and GAME’s control, we apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment that this has caused."
I guess the burglars were told the truck contained 10,000 squid. Imagine the surprise when they discover squid wasn't a slang for pounds.

The amiibo craze is getting absolutely ridiculous. I am so glad the only amiibo I wanted was not a rare that I could easily pick up from Target whenever I wanted to.

I'm not 100% sure that the amiibo craze had anything to do with it. I think it was more just would be opportunists got lucky. But if it was for the amiibo, then yeah, it really has gotten way way way out of hand.
