After months of not using it, I returned to Pixlr (aka, the poor man’s Photoshop) in hopes of being able to help out the guild with some glorious, beautiful art… conveniently forgetting that I have no talent whatsoever in that area. It didn’t take long to remind me of that. Seriously. No talent whatsoever. (I can barely draw stick figures.) Happily, I found another not-so-original creative outlet. I might not be able to make anything new or original or mind-bogglingly awesome, but apparently I am capable of recoloring kin. Is this particularly impressive or skillful? No. But I’m enjoying it and I’d love to share my excitement with you. So in the posts below you’ll find a random collection of things that I’ve been working on. Let me know what you think? Offer up suggestions for other kin that I should recolor? Ignore this completely? Up to you. Any and all of the above, and anything not mentioned, is welcome.
Note (6/1): I am more than willing to try recoloring something for you if there's a kin you'd like to see! I just ask that, if possible, you provide me with a color palette. (Hex codes would be great, but even just the name of an existing item on Gaia helps me out a lot. I can always extract colors using the dropper tool.) If you can't, that's fine. A description works, too.
Note (7/14): Due to Photobucket's recent policy changes, I can no longer share any of my images... so I'm gradually moving over to Imgur. This might take a while.

Pumpae family
►► ►► ►► _____________________ _____________________ I wanted to make a peacock... it kind of sort of failed. But it's not a bad start, considering this was only the second kin I recolored. >> So I remade my peacock pumperilla (and evolutions) and it's much better. The flower could probably use a little further depth (maybe some brown to fully complete the peacock theme), but overall I'm loving the improved version. Ostentatious Pumperilla. <3
Also: Cinderella Pumperilla. Cinderilla? Royal Pumperilla? Musical Pumperilla? Maidenly Pumperilla? Ooh... Glass Pumperilla! I'm not sure if there should be the gold to represent her hair or just the fabulous ball gown. Rapunzel Pumperilla, too. Vain Pumperilla? Trapped Pumperilla? Snarled Pumperilla? Lost Pumperilla?Temporarily also "Something Pumperilla!" Then because I'm clearly addicted: Peculiar (Belle) Pumperilla.
Elsa Pumperilla needs a name. Frostbitten Pumperilla? emotion_facepalm Somebody stop me. Nope. Not stopped. Snow White as Fairest Pumperilla? Jasmine as Worldly Pumperilla? Aurora as... I don't know? Pocahontas as Savage Pumperilla? Ariel as Waterlogged Pumperilla?
For Mulan, I'm not sure. She was very difficult to recolor and I wasn't certain as to if I should use the everyday dress or the formal dress.
Owlatte

Machia
►► King Machia, based on Magically Clueless’ guild portrait. I might change it up a little in terms of shading (especially the toes, face, and ribbon)… but I adore the ruff.
He's been updated. The second version, I used the yellow-gold that's being used for everyone else. That looked off and perhaps a bit too pumpkin-y with the off-black, so I returned to the green-gold from before. Much better. And I love the new crown. It happened on accident, but I can work with that.
Gobbles
►► A fun but totally clashing attempt at making a Pumpkin Gobbles with hints of venom (because that seemed Halloween appropriate). The tail turned out great, the body less so.

►► Spring leafkit family. Because we have what I'm guessing is summer (since that's when it was released) and an autumn. So... ALL THE LEAFKITS! Winter leafkit to follow eventually.
Cubdrop family
►► ►► ►► So... he turned out more dried blood or rusty than most of the "bloody" kin, but I'm little bit in love with him. I like the rust color palette anyway! Works for me. The abs are bit weird. Those were unintentional.
Rosepea
►► The end results of my trying to recolor kin as gifs rather than still images: Melty and Venomous Rosepeas. emotion_facepalm Plus: coronation Rosepea! (Not for a gif, just 'cause I liked the color combo.)
Carnelion
►► Scarred Carnelion! It's not perfect (there are some spotty areas that I don't care for), but it's taken me weeks to get this far and I'm satisfied with it for now. It's a Scar (Lion King) tribute. 'Cause why not?

Aw. Thanks! I'm not perfect, but I'm having fun teaching myself to do it.
I blow up the images to, like, 300-400% so that I can see the grand majority of the pixels. I pick my main color, use that for whatever color is the most common, and fill all of those same-colored pixels in using the paint bucket. Then I change the shade slightly to match whatever else is there (Pixlr will show me the next darker and lighter shade for a color, so I choose whichever is most appropriate) and fill in the next set of pixels and so on and so forth. Then I tweak as necessary if I don't like how it turns out. It helps to bring it back down to 100% once in a while to make sure I've gotten all of the pixels and that it all works together. If for some reason I can't get some pixels to stay one color (like, the two original shades are too similar and meld together), I'll use the pen tool to fill it in. Conversion charts (i.e., light blue = #whatever) would probably be a good idea... but I rarely do that.
If you ever really want to see these become real kin (but no means to obtain a seal/ticket thing), there's a kin community project you can submit your ideas too! > u <

Heh. I have 433 GC from free ads. rofl Still, I'm sure someone will buy it! And, honestly, I do look forward to seeing what ends up being made from it. There are a lot of really creative Gaians out there.
