She was hoping that Levi would visit, she had been wanting it to be him when it had been Rhona…and now she just wished her stupid idiot brother would visit just because she…she missed him.
But, that was the thing about stupid, idiot brothers, sometimes they didn’t realize when they were needed, and thus, today Lavender was at the door of his apartment, raising a fist and knocking lightly on the door.
She wanted to talk to him about so many things. About what had happened in Mirrorspace. About Rhona. About her whole place in this stupid thing and if she should just give it up as a bad job again. Because, she liked the idea of just giving it all up as a bad joke or a bad memory…or just a bad.
Because it had all just been kind of awful, and she had never really been into it…but. But now there were a few things holding her back from just quitting…and she figured Levi…even though he was a stupid idiot…he was more into this than she was, and she should have consulted him about this a long time ago and well…
Better late than never.
Growing impatient, Lavender knocked again, a bit louder this time. “Let me in you jackass.”

Levi had spent most of his time since he got back from Mirrorspace obsessively cleaning and organizing his apartment. It wasn't that it was particularly messy - he was usually a pretty neat person - but cleaning the place top to bottom soothed his whirling mind. He was pulled in a thousand different frustrating directions, with worries about Lav3ender and Mirrorspace and what felt like a million and a half more things.
He didn't really register the first knock, but the second, accompanied by the very irritated voice of his sister, was enough to send him over to the door.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm coming," he said, and then he pulled it open. "Come in." He could have opened with sass, but this was Lav, and he usually tried to be a little better than that with her. "You okay?"

Thank goodness he was home. Lavender was about to leave, when the door opened, and seeing her brother, she let out a relieved breath she hadn’t quite realized she’d been holding, though at his question, she found herself scowling. “Why’s everyone asking me that. Yeah I’m okay. I mean, if you’re talking about the other night, I’m confused. I’m…I’m annoyed and I don’t see why I was brought to that place when I don’t really…do that stuff…but…”
She shrugged, moving into her brothers apartment and scoffing at how clean everything was. Gross.
“Physically…yeah. I guess I’m okay. And you? I didn’t really see much of you before I left, I was half afraid you fell into one of those giant holes or something…mom would have been upset to only have me to deal with for the rest of her life.”
Flinging herself onto Levi’s couch, Lavender looked up at her brother, frowning slightly again. “…You’re stronger than me, when you’re Elsa, aren’t you? That kind of sucks. I don’t really…I kind of quit that whole thing. Then I guess things happened and people keep trying to drag me back in…I’m not really…I don’t really want to.” It was a lot to say, she knew…but…there wasn’t anyone else to talk about this with…and Levi had invited her in so…she was going to dump it all on her twin. No matter if he liked it or not.

Levi shut the door once Lavender was inside, and he let out a little breath of relief. If she was okay enough to be annoyed that he was asking her, she was definitely pretty okay. “Excuse me for being concerned about my favorite sister,” he said, placing a hand over his heart.
He stuck with her as she moved over to the couch, and leaned against one of the arms without actually sitting on it. “I’m fine, some cuts and scrapes but nothing really bad.” He was still walking, at least, and most of the damage he’d taken was already healed. Nothing really bad at all.
A frown wrote itself across his face as she went on. Sure, Lavender had been the one to bring him in, but the difference in their ranks spoke clearly enough to how much easier it had been for him. It had been direction, something he could really give himself to, and that made it so, so important. “If it’s not for you,” he said, “then it’s not for you. I’m not gonna tell you you have to do this, Lav. It’s too dangerous for that.” He’d seen people hurt. He’d seen people almost die. He did not want any of those things to happen to his sister. “But the thing is, it’s also, you know. Literally magical. It can be so great. And the Court is...good, it really is. Everyone there will keep an eye on you.”
He sat down on the couch next to her. “But nobody should be forcing you into it. If they try to, point me at them and I’ll get them to knock it the ******** off.”

She sighed heavily and slumped against him when he sat down, going over all that he said in her own mind. “Yeah, yeah I know it’s literally magical, but…I don’t know. I’ve just been in a super funk lately, I think.” Lavender shrugged, picking at some dirt under one of her nails and flinging it to Levi’s perfectly clean floor.
“I don’t think I want people to be keeping their eye on me, doesn’t that sound so super creepy to you? Like, Big Brother’s watching or something? Oh, the court will be there, the court loves you. It’s like, I don’t know. It just all rubs me the wrong way I suppose. That and the fact that every time I go out I end up attacking someone because I’m so damn wound up, it’s kind of getting to be a habit, and I’m not really a fan of hurting people, Levi.”
She paused for a moment. “I mean, unless it’s you, but that’s a totally different story so. Also, it’s not as though she’s forcing me into it…she just…harps on it and makes me feel like a fool for not being gung ho about it? And when she came over that night…I don’t know. She was concerned that I was going to purify? Like, I don’t know, I really don’t know. I don’t even know what the hell that means so, why would she be worried about it?”
There was no need to say who ‘she’ was. Honestly, Lavender was still trying to process her feelings for Rhona…they were good feelings, that much she figured but…but there was all the pushiness too. If they were going to be dating…she would have to set some sort of boundary line at the very least. “I just don’t want to do it, and she’ll have to accept that.”

Levi nodded slowly. He hadn’t exactly had the easiest time getting into it himself, and he still...slipped. Stopped going out, because it was a lot.
He also had to force himself not to wince watching her flick dirt onto the floor. It was just…something else to stress-clean later. Which was good, because he was running out of things to stress-clean.
“I mean, when you put it that way, yeah, it is kinda creepy,” he acknowledged. “I meant to say it in more of a got-your-back kind of way, but the creepier version is definitely there too.” He glanced away, over at the wall. He’d lost Charlie to this war, too - or maybe just to the realization that he and Charlie had always been too different and he was trying to fix something that couldn’t be fixed. But that wasn’t going to happen with Lav. Even if she stopped being Chione, she’d still be his sister. “That’s the not so good part, anyway, that you have to fight and so it’s really easy to, you know, fight everybody. That’s, uh, something I had to work on.”
Because apparently it wasn’t actually a good idea to fight everyone ever.
“Do you want to know what purifying means?” He asked. She deserved to have the information, at least. “You know, so you understand.” He wasn’t afraid of her leaving. There was no way Lav would just...give up her whole life to get away from being a Senshi. And she’d be one anyway. “And if she doesn’t respect that you don’t want to do this, she’s no good for you.”
“But tell me more about her. I’m your brother, I think I have a right to the details about your...new girlfriend?”

She could see that flicking the dirt had bothered him, and a smug little smile formed on Lavender’s face at that. At least this hadn’t changed. Levi was still Levi, and that was what she needed right now. She needed Levi. “I have no idea what purifying means. Is it some like...juice cleanse or something? Or one of those hoaxes like putting onions in your socks at night to pull out toxins? That doesn’t work by the way. The onions only get all gross because they’re on your dirty feet, not because they’ve pulled out toxins.”
Lavender closed her eyes, sighing slightly. “Why’d we stop hanging out so much. I mean I get that we’re different and all, but we’re twins. We’re supposed to hang out a lot more than we do. Also...there’s nothing in what I said that the person in question that I was talking about was my girlfriend. I mean, I suppose you’re right in your assumption, but still. Still.”
There was a long pause. “It’s nice to be wanted. There were a few other girls that I thought I liked...one who I really, really liked...but I don't know what happened to her. I miss her. I hope she’s doing well.”
She was quiet again, thinking. “I wonder how things change so much in such a short time. It’s insane to think about. I’m not unhappy though. Not really. I’m just...overwhelmed. I think.”

Levi almost laughed. It was a very, very near thing. Comparing purifying to a juice cleanse was probably going to be the funniest thing he heard all week. But this was serious, and so he allowed himself a smile but not the laughter he wanted. “Not, uh, quite,” he said. “It’s...you know how there are other senshi? Order, White Moon, whatever they call themselves? Purifying is leaving the Court and becoming one of them.” He said. “It sucks. You lose who you used to be. I don’t know a lot about it, I’ve only actually seen it with the Negaverse and we work a lot differently than they do, but I know the general idea.”
He gave her a wry little smile. “I’m not sure. Diverging life paths, or whatever? We need to spend more time together.” He missed his sister, a lot more than he let himself be honest about. But they’d fix that. “And look, I’m just a lucky guesser. Also, I figured you were talking about the girl that kissed you in Mirrorspace, so it’s not like I’m pulling this out of a hat.”
It was nice to be wanted, he was definitely familiar with that feeling.
“Sometimes relationships just don’t work out,” he offered, as some really sad advice. “Just...take it one day at a time?” He offered. “Also, you never told me this girl’s name, which is an important thing for me to know.”

“Oh. I met one of those the other day, she was actually really nice. Her name was uh. Lacrimosa or something. She was very, very pink. I think we could be friends. Or something. Maybe not though. I don’t know. I’m just a mess, Levi. Just a hot mess. Emphasis on the hot part of it though. At least Rhona seems to think I’m hot…that’s her name, by the way. Rhona. Or Acubens, if you want her fancy Dark Mirror name…she uh. Found me one day when I was just trying to get home and she’s been around ever since. She’s really…really gung-ho about all of the court stuff, and it was super off putting at first…but she was really…”
Lavender sighed. “She was just really attractive so I didn’t tell her to ******** off…and I guess I figured we were just going to be friends or something and then she kissed me out of the blue and that was a little strange to be perfectly honest. I mean…I feel like there would be better places and times to kiss someone…but then she came over later that night and we cuddled and…I don’t know. It was nice. She hasn’t really…we haven’t seen each other or talked since then. But I think we’re dating for real.”
The girl shrugged. “I think. I hope. Who really knows though, who knows. What about you? You have a new boyfriend yet?”

Levi nodded. He’d met decent White Moon Senshi himself; they were pretty easy to find, but he wasn’t exactly eager to join them any time soon. He let out a little laugh at her “hot mess” joke, but mostly he was quiet through her explanation, because he wanted to let her talk without interruption. Clearly Lavender was at least interested in this Rhona girl, and that was enough for him to want to hear everything she had to say.
“Hey, that sounds like it’s something,” he said. “Though it...probably is best if the two of you have a conversation about what you want.” A good thing, he liked to think.
“And, uh, no. Nobody new.” Which was a little depressing, but. Really, it was fine. That was fine.

Lavender sighed heavily and snuggled closer to her brother. “You’ll find someone. I know you will. You’re awesome, and handsome and amazing and have a great work ethic when it comes to cleaning, honestly, any guy would be lucky as hell to have you in their life. At least I think so.” She slipped her hand into his and gave it a squeeze. “And…you’re right though. Even if I’m not in the court, that doesn’t change what we have…and honestly, if Rhona doesn’t accept that either, then she doesn’t really deserve to be with me. My choices are my own…and she should respect them. Just like I respect her being a part of the court. I’m not going to stop her from doing that.”
Talking with Levi had made her feel better. Plus it was…it was nice to still have the connection with him that she did. “We have to hang out more often. Enough of this being adults and never speaking except through text messages. This is the best I’ve felt in a long time, sitting here and talking to you. I even feel kind of bad for putting dirt on your floor, even though your pained expression was worth it.”
She opened her eyes and grinned at him, laughing. “Seriously though. Let’s hang out a lot more often again. I need my brother in my life.”

Levi slung an arm over Lavender’s shoulders, squeezing them for a casual side-hug. “I know, I’m a total catch,” he said, and he even managed to save laughing at himself until he was done. “I’m sure my cleaning skills and long record of near-misses with our proud legal system will both attract me the guy of my dreams.” Someday. Maybe. And even if not, he’d….make it work. But he was still young, and he had plenty of time to figure his s**t out. “And that’s exactly right. You’ve gotta respect each other’s choices. It’s...pretty fundamental.”
That was where he’d gone wrong, in the end.
“I’ve missed you a lot,” he admitted. “I’ve missed having someone I could talk to without worrying about being judged. Well, mostly.” He stretched a little. “You can hang around for a while if you want, but if you need to get out of here, go ahead.” He said. “I’m just glad we got to do this.”

Lavender nodded, in no hurry to leave. To be perfectly honest, she was more than content to hang out around her brother’s place for the rest of the day. It was his obligation to humor her, and for once she wasn’t going to worry about if he actually wanted her here or not. She wanted to be here.
So she was staying. That was all.
Honestly, that was what mattered in the end. Her life had to be ruled by what she wanted. No anyone else. Not Levi, nor Rhona, nor anyone else in the court. Her decisions were her own.
