So in the middle of my packing and worrying about if I forgot something important to shove away, Gaia released their new currency, platinum!
And I'm sure a lot of you have some opinions on it, and I'd like to hear/discuss them. Personally I like the new currency, having the smaller platinum number makes me feel more accomplished for some reason. Though when I go syca killing Imma switch back to gold just to get those lovely billions, but for low level kins the 1 plat minimum reward is a great way to get plat fast.
So what about you! Do you like the new currency? Think it's the downfall of gaian society as a whole? Discuss below~

I'm surprised that Gaia did not make the switch to platinum mandatory, but I guess that is good news for those of us who rely heavily on Syca-farming for our gold revenue. I am also very interested by what the staff said at AtS yesterday: Quote: The platinum granting system is governed by a series of code that balances out payout between features, and payout based on marketplace prices. Over time there will be changes to the payout that changes on a day to day basis, and if the payout is still lagging too far behind, we will go in and make some changes manually. I wonder if this means that, if we use platinum currency, no single feature of Gaia will grant us a lot more plat than other features? Does this mean that LK will grant about the same amount of plat as posting in forums? So no single feature will become the next "moneymaker"? Or will this also depend on global usage rather than personal usage? So, if one feature is granting a lot of plat because a lot of users are using it, then will that feature automatically start granting less plat for everybody? So will the next "moneymaking" strategy be to use features that fewer people use? lol? I don't have any answers to those questions, but I am very interested to see what changes this self-regulating system will bring about. Feels like Gaia has entered into a new era, Era of the AI eek

So like if a lot of people are using one feature, the drop rates will lower so it doesnt become a gold dump. It is something completely different from what Im used to though, so I cant really say much about it sweatdrop Just gotta wait and see how it works out. And I can completely see why gaia wouldnt make it mandatory right away. Just look at the site feedback threads to see how much people hate it before even using it, I can bet you at least half of those people wouldve left if it was mandatory. So many people are against change they don't even wanna bother seeign the other side of things emo

Honestly, I was never in favor of changing the name and just making the numbers look smaller. The rich are still rich and the poor still poor. A new name won't change that by itself. Hopefully, though, the other aspects that Lanzer is introducing alongside the currency change will help. Can't hurt too much at this point, anyway!
Beyond that? Math isn't my strong suit, so I find it kind of confusing. I know it's an easy ratio... but after years of billion this and billion that it's kind of weird to look at the smaller numbers. And then to have to figure out if someone has now over- or under-priced something in platinum versus the old gold price. Eh. Still, I'll give it a try here and there-- except, like you said, when I'm sycamorte farming. Then it'll be gold all the way. When I'm done collecting for both of our upcoming events, I'll try platinum on a more permanent basis but until then, like I said, I'll be switching between the two.

I'm still iffy about it but I don't think putting a band-aid (plat) over a gaping wound (inflation) will fix anything. It's just smaller numbers but the amount is the same really. And like Elegantly said rich are still rich and poor are still poor. Still takes me hours to make gold and even more hours to make plat. Although I prefer 10m to 50k x3

Honestly, my only issue with is the fact that I can't convert without loosing gold. I can't send my mules my extra gold because it doesn't meet the 10mil gold parameters. So I'm kinda stuck here waiting to switch neutral
As much as I like smaller numbers, there's still the issue of rewards. I mainly grind in LK for gold so I'm not all that tempted to switch to plat until I know that I'm getting the equivalent rewards.

Exactly! If it weren't for the fact that I'd be earning less with platinum, I'd switch over. Since that's not the case (and most especially because I'm trying to fund three different contests right now)... I'm just hoping that they'll forget to nerf the gold version the way they did the platinum. Fingers crossed.
I'm sure there's a reason for the trade minimum... but I don't get it. Like, I know according to the FAQ you can get 10 platinum just by surfing, but the forced use of it in a trade baffles me. If it's nothing, at all, why do we have to use it in the first place? What difference does it make?
I can't find the thread now, but I vaguely remember someone doing a comparison and noting that platinum is actually beneficial in earlier levels since there's a minimum of 10 plat (which is better than the 3,000 gold you sometimes get). But if you're a tree-hunter... so many kinds of not worth it.

But if you switch to plat, you won't lose that gold really that doesn't meet the 10m, if you switched back to gold, you would see those smaller numbers still. 3nodding Plat just kind of masks it.

The reason for the new min for trades/selling stuff, is because say if you sold something for less then 10m, say 5m, a person whose using plat wouldn't be able to see it, being that 5m is half of one plat. It's easier for Gaia to just have a min amount then having to give out portions of a single plat. It doesn't bother me, but I know a lot of people aren't liking the min. I wouldn't suggest selling anything less then 10 plat though on the market. Say if you sold something for 1 plat, the tax would take all of it. Personally I found it hard to convert at first, the smaller numbers made me feel like I was loosing out. But aside from tree farming it's beneficial to stay in plat. You can at least 1 plat for posting which is 10m in gold better then if you stayed in gold. Now I'm in plat at all times except when farming trees.

I switch back and forth. Only when I farm trees do I go back to normal as my dailies net me 100 or so if not more platinum a day.

I switch to gold for tree killing & buying stuff and use plat everywhere else. It's kind of annoying but at least I can get the most use out of each currency this way...
