Gaia will celebrate its 15th anniversary on February 18th, so... happy birthday, Gaia!
In celebration of this: talk with us about some of your favorite Gaia memories. What have been your favorite items? Events? Activities/games? How long have you been here? Have you (or your avatar) changed in terms of your site personality/looks/activities? If yes, how so? Is this still your original account or are you on a new one now? Any and all Gaia-related questions.
Also, because the Chinese New Year is coming up: It's the Year of the Dog! Do you have a favorite dog breed?

I have been on Gaia for way too long lol I've actually been here since '04, on and off. My irl friend who introduced me to Gaia doesn't even log on anymore, not that I know of.. ninja Thinking back now, I think most of my favourite memories are the most ridiculous ones xD Doing random stuff with random strangers in Towns, throwing popcorn in Cinemas, getting all riled up in event forum battles, roleplaying as yum_puddi lol Oh, one that was not so ridiculous was attending a theater show in Towns. A group of users dressed up and acted out the play, Wicked. It was fantastic heart I'm also remembering all the ways I tried to make gold on here (pre-LK): hosting and participating in avatar contests, multi-round contests, tektek contests, getting hired as a bumper, starting my own art shop.. Oh! I remember my first Wooden Trunk! I received these Fox Ears that were so coveted at the time. I remember strutting them with my fancy Peasant dress for the longest time because I couldn't afford anything back then lol

'04? Well, I feel a little younger in Gaia-years now. Thanks!
Throwing popcorn in cinemas was always fun, I have to admit. I liked just hiding in that pile at the top of the stairs with the other users who were too lazy to move. It was neat to watch all the usernames stack and create something new.
Avatar contests were always risky-- you never knew if someone was actually going to pick their favorite, much less pay-- but they really were one of the best ways to earn gold. Fun, too. I still miss the color-sorting function from Tektek.
Fox ears, peasant dress/gloves, and charred tundra boots, right? Sometimes I'm half-tempted to break mine out just to see what people say about it but then my addiction to pretty pixels takes control. It gets ugly.

You're welcome, I guess lol When did you first join? ;o Oh I remember that pile of users! I always wondered why people didn't pick a seat. I loved being able to have my avatar sit down in one of those seats. Felt like she was in a real cinema blaugh Oh yea, it's definitely happened to me once or twice, where the contest host just never picked the winners. Tektek was really great with their tagging and sorting functions. One Tektek feature that I miss the most is the ability to toggle the visibility of an item. That feature made it so convenient for me to keep track of the items that I tried, and to flip back and forth between different item combinations to see which one I liked best. How could I forget the tundra boots? lol I'm not sure if I wore them, but I definitely remember seeing them around a lot. Can you imagine if we all dressed our avatars up in our oldest outfits for just one day, for Gaia's birthday, and post in the GCD? xD

Belated response! I joined in, I think, early 2007 on my first account... so not too, too much later than you.
Our current avatar builder is decently functional but, you're right. That toggle function. emotion_drool I totally forgot about that but now that you've mentioned it, wow. I can't believe I forgot about it.
It is Gaia's birthday today, so hopefully we'll see some nostalgic outfits! I'm trying to decide between my first dream avatar (even though I'll have to repurchase a few items) or my usual anniversary outfit (which is a combo of a lot popular items from my early days). Tough choice.

I joined in 2006 and this is my original account. But I changed my avatar base so I can't make my first dream avatar anymore emo
My favorite items were evolving items and my favorite activity/game has and always will be zOMG!
I used to be super into the Minishops forum too and collecting art things from there. That's also where I met a couple of my best friends.
I like German shepherds. My own dog is half one.

I love meeting new people, and this looks like a fun new place. I got involved earlier than 2006 but lost that account. This account started 2006. I was part of that whole personal pixels phase back in the early 00s. I also looooooove anime, and this is a nice place to celebrate it.
I love pointers. My Mary is a pointer, wherever she ran off to, escaping my "torturous" younger brothers. Dogs are mostly all great. They have taught me a lot.

I forgot about Avatar Builder! I never use it because it was always down and I got used to making avis using the customize avatar page. Anyway this was my first dream avatar I went around wearing those items but without the lunar cloak, whip of ice, and had different shoes before I could afford those things.

Is it sad that I'm impressed by how well that hair matches the shirt? That was hard to do back in the earlier years. emotion_facepalm It was like... okay... this is a close-ish match. Maybe no one will notice.
Evolving items were great. I understand why the staff aren't making them anymore, but I miss them all the same. It was just exciting to watch the poses change.
And yesss... German Shepherds!

Welcome!
Personal pixels were (still are) pretty cool. I could never afford art but it was always great fun to look at what everyone was making and just be jealous/appreciative of their talent. Do you still make the personal pixels or is that a "back then" thing? (Not begging for one. Just nosy. I still like looking at people's art. wink )

I haven't made any for a long time. A lot of the stuff I got was free from people's webbies back in the day. I did save up to buy stuff here, especially the holiday collectives that used to be. I miss them all, but I try to get into this new stuff. biggrin

Hahaha yeah, like that! I was so proud of my matching abilities here. But then that matching trend came on a few years later where a good avatar was thought to have the most precise match of 3-4 colors, all balanced throughout. It kind of evolved into the texture avi trend later I think. You know what I'm talking about? Anyway, that was all before recolors and premade color schemes were a thing so it was hard to do and that's why I wasn't into it, especially when the end result was an avatar that didn't have character. I like the avatars these days a lot more. Same, about the EIs. It was a fun and unique idea, plus you get a ton of poses razz I looked forward to my things evolving. Oh, and also MCs before the cash shop took over the site.
