Tempesti told herself that she wasn’t necessarily patrolling tonight, just taking an evening walk with her henshin up in case she happened upon a hungry youma or a homicidal chicken monster. Better not to waste time transforming if that happened. Besides, she enjoyed the sensation of her long sleeves drifting in the wind. Nothing wrong with that, after all. After twenty-two years of living in relative peace, the strange things that had long eluded her in the city had finally been making themselves known. Even the ones who had nothing to do with cosmic warfare had been putting in appearances with the changing of the seasons. As though on cue, she felt a soft impact through the leather above the ankle of her boot.

“…a starfish? What are you doing here, huh?”

The senshi reached down in an attempt to gently dislodge her stowaway, but unfortunately for her fingers, it decided that they were a far more appealing entrée than her boots.

Quote:
Starfish Scares (13) : Starfish live in the sea. They do not live in freshwater rivers, lakes, or reservoirs with no connection to the ocean. Starfish are also not social creatures. And yet, here they are–in hoards. They can be found near any water source–and far from it. These starfish seem to be a unique species that are eager to travel and don’t seem quite bound to water, though they will seek it out. The starfish will latch onto just about anything they can to hitch a ride, even though they’re fast. They secrete an itchy, oozy slime after they’ve latched onto something, and though it seems as though they can absorb nutrients from any living creature, these starfish have an odd penchant for blood. You might as well have a colorful leech stuck to you as soon as you think one of these things crawling your way. Their bites are sharp and will leave the nearby skin itchy and painful. They are a bit difficult to remove but they can be killed; as soon as they have perished, they will rapidly dry out and crumble. However, it’s far more likely that they’ll escape before you can get your hands on them. Be vigilant; these things are pests–and smart enough to cling to people and vehicles alike if it means getting to where they want to go.

Nope.

That was a great big 'Nope'.

Ash had seen the strange shapes along the bank of the pond in the park as she slunk through on her way back to her lair, or ‘tech sanctuary’ as she liked to call it, but when she'd gone to investigate, reaching out to touch one with a soft paw, it had... scuttled away from her, dashing down and into the water. The others on the bank had scattered away, their movements somehow wrong, in a way that was sort of deeply disturbing. She'd immediately regretted coming over here to look at them.

To her horror, after nothing had chased them down, the little things started to creep back towards her, moving in fast little bursts before pausing, as if watching to see her reaction. How they were watching, with no eyes she could see, she had no idea. It set off alarm bells in her head and instinct took over, sending her fleeing away from the water and deeper into the park, all of her senses on high alert and her tail a bottle brush behind her.

Glancing back to see if the little monsters were following, she felt herself collide with something solid and much larger than she was, bouncing off of it to land in a heap and a rattle of her headset against the ground. Blinking up in a daze, she realized belatedly that it was a senshi. Relief was immediate.

“Oh thank goodness!” Ash gasped out as she jumped wildly and scrambled her way up onto the girl’s shoulder. “Those things are chasing me! Squash them, would you, Darling?”

“Damn,” Tempesti let out a pained hiss as the apparently bloodthirsty creature latched onto the skin of her left index finger, a painful itch spreading outward from the bite. It definitely wasn’t some kind of tiny youma, but it certainly knew how to be its own special kind of unpleasant. Doing her best not to injure the thing she gently wedged a fingernail under one of its arms, popping it off with some effort and all but tossing it into the grass nearby before it could regain its grip. It seemed to lose interest in her almost immediately, scuttling off with a group of its friends. When she felt the soft impact against her shin she expected to see another starfish latched to the leather, only to be greeted by a frantic Mauvian with a swarm of the little monsters in hot pursuit.

The senshi quickly but helped the magical cat (wearing an adorable little headset!) hurry out of their reach before they could get any ideas about feasting on innocent kitties. She wasn’t normally one to squash bugs, or anything else really, but she wasn’t exactly in a position to call the wildlife service to report an invasive species. Even if they did come to look into it, who knows what these guys might eat in the time it took them to come out here.

Making sure the cat was planted securely on her shoulder, she raised her other arm.

“Bitter Blast!

Tempesti adjusted the Mauvian’s position as the Harpies brought forth their storm, holding her securely on the off chance that her magic decided to revert to its unruly ways and try to blow her away.

The guardian cat was all too happy to be lifted off the ground and scuttled her way up onto the senshi’s shoulders, balancing there like a luxurious furry stole. Of the highest quality, of course.

From her perch, she could watch as the little monsters swarmed her savior. As bad as she might feel about that, this lady was far better equipped to handle them than she was, even with her little ray gun tucked away in subspace. She was obviously a fighter, where Ash was not, and besides… she was much taller than Ash in either form. To the mauvian’s relief, she took the hint and set off her magic in an impressive display of localized storm. Within that storm, flying, feathered creatures beat their wings to stir up the wind and send miniature bolts of lighting slashing at the ground.

All in all, a very effective use of magic, as the seeming starfish scattered back the way they had come, most likely to look for easier prey than the two females.

“Oh, that was delightful, Darling!” Ash cooed as she draped herself more comfortably around the girl’s neck, tucking herself among her feathers. Her tail curled with its own softness over her shoulder and Ash rubbed her whiskered cheek against hers. “I’m so glad I ran into you, you have no idea. I’m Ash. Or the Silver Lady, as some call me. It is a pleasure to meet you.”

The senshi couldn’t help the twinge of guilt that accompanied the destruction of the strange starfish, doing her best to remind herself that they were most likely a danger to the region’s ecosystem and she’d probably saved a lot of native wildlife that might otherwise have become dinner.

Tempesti smiled at the Mauvian around her neck, thoroughly enjoying the softness despite the heat. Some things were worth it, after all, and this magical cat seemed like an absolute gem. Not that she would have let a less friendly Mauvian get eaten, but that didn’t mean that her new acquaintance’s enthusiasm went unappreciated. “I’m Sailor Tempesti. Do you have a preference for what you like people to call you?” She admittedly had very little idea how etiquette and titles worked with Mauvians and would rather err on the side of politeness.

"Oh! No, Darling, you can call me whatever you please. Ash, Silver Lady, Your Majesty... I'm fine with whatever." Ash laughed as she stood and rubbed her cheek against the sensei's, head butting her in a way felines tended to do.

"And thank you so very much for saving me, Tempesti. I'm very glad I ran into you when I did. Those things were nasty... And I guess I could have maybe handled them myself, but better safe, right?" She purred, kneading her front feet into her feathery shoulder. "Did I interrupt you in the middle of your patrol, or some other important business? I can be quite the talker if you get me started, and I don't want to keep you from anything you should be doing."

Being out and about wasn't precisely the most comfortable thing these days, but meeting a new senshi certainly was helping push back the anxiety that came from not being within the safety and comfort of her own four walls. She'd had no choice by to head out for supplies that couldn't be delivered, though those were getting blessedly fewer and farther between with the miracle of Door Dash and other such services. Easier and easier to just... never leave her little lair, never see the light of true day. Hard and harder to want to leave, and deal with... everything out here. Like nasty little starfish.

Tempesti smiled as the soft fur came in contact with her cheek. “Ash” seemed like the best way to address the friendly cat and even though she wasn’t one to put much thought into titles, she thought that “your majesty” seemed like a perfectly reasonable nickname for any feline.

“Of course, I was happy to help! Even if you took care of all of them, those bites are itchy. One got me on my finger the other day and I would not recommend the experience.” She hoped that the Mauvian didn’t feel like an inconvenience, a non-Chaos related pause in her patrol was far better than leaving someone so small to fight an army of hungry starfish alone. “I was on patrol but I wasn’t taking a set route, I’m glad I was here. Did you have any plans? I could give you a lift if you’d like.”

Ash shifted from paw to paw, less kneading this time and more... a sense of unease. She glanced back over their collective shoulder into the darkness of the city night with a hint of apprehension showing in the lines of her soft little body, quickly squashed. She buried that feeling under a bright, friendly disguise and waved a delicate little paw towards the city in front of them.

"I tend to spend my time at Headquarters these days, where I have a little room of my own. It's generally that direction, and if you would like to go with me, I would certainly enjoy the company!" She said as she settled herself on the senshi's shoulder, as well as one could expect on such a precarious perch.

"I was just doing some errands, you know how it is. Got to pick up the staples and such." If the 'staples' include some more discarded hard drives scrounged behind an electronics store and some candy she had put on a disguise to purchase with a card she had fabricated linked to a bank account she had hacked. But really, she was just doing what she needed to, to survive. "So, tell me about yourself! You seem like quite a delightful young lady that I am very happy to have run into, despite the circumstances."

Tail curling down Tempesti's back, Ash balanced herself delicately, careful to keep her claws to herself.

Tempesti nodded, unconsciously beginning to walk in the direction the Mauvian indicated a second or two before replying. Though she didn’t know the cat well enough to know for certain, she thought she felt a brief moment of tension in the small form on her shoulder. It was only natural, she supposed, after their encounter with those hungry little monsters.

“I’d be happy to! Do you have any more errands to run or were you on your way home?” It occurred to her that she’d never been to anything resembling a headquarters, so that alone was enough to pique her curiosity. “Oh, thank you. You seem delightful too!” The compliment was a sincere one, even if she echoed the Mauvian’s own words. Ash was good company from what she could tell. “Well, I’m a musician. I play the violin and the harp.” Under these circumstances it felt a bit odd to define herself by her music, but that was still what leapt to her lips. “I’m still getting used to running into things like this. How about you?”

Ash smiled a cat smile as she rose comfortably on a Senshi's shoulder. Truly, one of the best places in the world to be... it would be a hard choice to make between her computer-filled room and the shoulder of a handsome senshi.

"No errands, I got those all done, thank you! I'm more than ready to be home again... though I'm really not in much of a rush now." She said warmly, a chuckle rolling in her chest. "A musician! How wonderful, Darling. I would love to hear you play! I don't have a musician in my roster yet..."

The last came in a musing tone as Ash thoughtfully butted her head against Tempesti's, the tail draping over her shoulder swishing back and forth.

"I have been around for a while, so I suppose I'm more or less used to it... though its hard to say you ever really get used to it, when its always something different. Sometimes they're harmless, but sometimes... well, I suppose that's why it's good to always travel in pairs or more, hmm?" Ash mused. Not that she did, most of the time. A real 'do as I say, not as I do' sort of situation... And she was not going to bring up with her brand new senshi that there was a lot about her past that she didn't remember. That seemed like a bigger discussion that called for a closer acquaintance than first meeting.

"Do you play as a profession?" Jumping back to the topic, Ash bubbled with questions. "Is it something you've done since childhood, or was it something you picked up later?"

Tempesti couldn’t be sure what a Mauvian’s roster would entail, but she certainly wouldn’t mind providing a bit of music for a friendly cat alien. From what she could tell they put in a lot of work, so they deserved a break as much as anyone else did. Maybe more. Whatever the case, she hoped that she could provide an enjoyable diversion from monsters, awakening senshi, and everything else they got up to.

“I could play for you sometime if you’d really like me to!”

The Mauvian’s answer wasn’t entirely surprising, even if someone got used to youma, there were those corrupted senshi and whatever magic they brought with them, not to mention things like Harold dropping from the sky. That was something she hoped she never had reason to get used to. “I’m still a bit…new to all of this. I just awakened in January. At the end of January. I try to travel in pairs when I can, but sometimes I just need to patrol, you know? I can’t always wait for someone else to be ready to come with me.” She felt a bit silly admitting this to someone who obviously carried far more experience than she did, but she didn’t see a point in being dishonest. Civilians had less of a chance against wandering bits of Chaos than she did, it was only fair that she take the risk.

“Well, I play with a string quartet on weekends and holidays and I just started teaching music at a school of the arts downtown. I’ve been playing my whole life, I really can’t remember a time when I didn’t.” She smiled slightly as she spoke, it was still as much a part of her as her magic.
