Quote:
Poultrygeist (15) : As Destiny City is a bustling metropolis, it’s not unexpected that there should be some strange animals running the streets. Sometimes it’s a tiger, sometimes a monkey, sometimes a chicken. Sometimes it’s something worse. Strange egg clusters have appeared in Destiny City’s parks and officials aren’t really sure what they are; these eggs have nothing inside of them. Though it’s an anomaly, they are chalking it up to teenaged pranks. However, they have advised to just leave the eggs as they are. Nobody wants to say why, but if you’re out late at night, you’ll find out. In the darkness, whispered between the sounds of the city: a guttural, rasping cluck. The creature stands on stilt-like legs, rooted to the ground with razor-sharp talons. It wears a cloak of long, oily feathers that drag on the ground with a sinister scraping. If you stare into the darkness, piercing red eyes stare back at you. That’s all it takes for a confrontation: a mangled bird, maybe a chicken in another life, comes barreling out at you. It stands easily as tall as a person, but the proportions are all wrong. The smell of sulfur follows it as it lunges, pecking and screaming and scratching as it attempts to chase you away. Maybe, from the nests full of empty eggs. The battles are fierce, but fleeting; it will viciously try to chase you away but the effects are always the same: at some point, the eggs are crushed. As always, there’s nothing inside of them, but with one final wail, the bird will vanish into a plume of foul smoke.

Note: If you choose to encounter one of these bird-like creatures, your character will recognize they are not youma. It is impossible to tell if it is a single entity or if there are many. The bird does not seem to understand or care to listen to human words. It will always disappear in a malodorous plume of smoke and leave nothing but a foul odor and a clutch of empty, broken eggs behind. This RP can be used as a battle requirement as long as there are two powered characters involved; you must be interacting with another player’s powered character. This does not count as the one youma battle per stage for growth so characters can still use an NPC youma battle as well as this one for growth purposes. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt.

It had been something of a habit for Mi-Hi to spend her evenings in the park near to her old place of work, back in the days when she had been trying to juggle work and study, but even though she had quit that particular job after finishing the last of her studies, Mi-Hi had still continued to spend what evenings she could at the park, bringing food for the feline denizens that made the park their home.

Old habits died hard, and one particular cat that she had nicknamed Mr Socks because of his cute little socks had taken to taking the spot next to her on the bench that she tended to sit on–

And whilst it was likely more to try to be the first to get at the treats that she brought along with her, he was a handsome little round fellow and it wasn't like she personally had any problems with it.

It had been pretty late when she'd reached the park, although Mi-Hi hadn't thought too much about it, as she made her way towards the spot where the cats hung out.

Only for the sound of feline hissing and screeching to have her stop cold as the bag dropped from suddenly nerveless fingers.

Another feline screech had her rummaging through the bag, and whilst Mi-Hi was generally more circumspect on the rare occasions when she powered up, fear for the strays had her being a lot more reckless than usual as she powered up into her senshi alter-ego Sadalsuud–

Only there hadn't been anything there when she reached the sound of the screeching and hissing, just Mr Socks standing near something on the ground as he and two of the other strays growled and hissed.

Sadalsuud took a few anxious steps towards them, only to freeze at the sudden sound of something scraping along the ground, followed by a low rasping cluck.

A low, rasping and somehow menacing cluck.

It was answered in turn by another hiss from Mr Socks, his ears flattened and back arched.

Sadalsuud turned and took a few shaky steps backwards as she caught sight of malevolent red eyes peering out from between the trees.

Malevolent red eyes and the sudden smell of sulphur, the creature standing on stilt-like legs as the red eyes bored into her green ones for a moment–

A moment that was broken as the biggest and most mangled bird that she had ever seen came screaming out at her, barrelling in the direction of her (and by extension the cats) on legs tipped with razor sharp talons.

The more rumors there had been centering around Destiny City parks – whether about ethereal, shimmering beings, pranksters, clusters of empty eggs, or giant birds – the more Sinope had centered more of his patrols around the parks as well. He would have liked to get to the bottom of some of those mysteries or, at the very least, keep people safe from the more dangerous sources of the rumors. Thus, it was no coincidence that he happened to be around when a cacophony of screeching and hissing stray cats sounded throughout the vicinity. He had been bending down to pick up a Violet Star Charm that had caught his eye on the ground when the cat chaos drew his attention. After a moment of trying to discern what he was hearing, he stuck the star charm in his pocket and rushed toward the direction of the noise, curiosity propelling him onward as it so often did.

What he didn’t expect to see there was a young lady with shining black hair and vivid green eyes. And what he expected to see even less was that young lady transform into a powered being who he had known once upon a time several years ago. Sailor Sadalsuud, Dark Mirror Senshi of Clovers. Only she was different; more powerful. Her energy signature registered as powerful as his, now.

At first, Sinope thought the cats had been giving her trouble, but it wasn’t long before he realized the felines and senshi both were facing the same direction. Sinope didn’t like what Sadalsuud’s body language was saying about what she saw, but the instant he decided to dart into the open in order to aid her was the same instant the monstrous bird chose to try to attack. He grit his teeth at the clash of talons against the copper braces on his arms, putting both up in an ‘X’ formation similar to how Wonder Woman did with her bracers in comics, movies, and shows. It provided something of a shield when no actual shield was available and seemed to be an action that gave bracers their name since Sinope braced himself against the talons with one arm supporting the other by pressing against it.

Shoving his arms and the attacking bird away from himself with his bracers, he dropped low and attempted to kick the massive avian’s legs out from under it, but it was too quick. “Hey Sadalsuud,” he called, keeping his eyes trained on the enemy in front of him. “Think you can get those cats to scram or otherwise get them out of harm’s way? We can’t do our best work if we’re worried about casualties, now, can we?”

To his great surprise, though he was facing away from the senshi behind him, his grin was audible in his voice. He couldn’t stop grinning. Why was he so happy to see her? He thought he’d lost everything when his parents had been murdered and he’d been forced to move out of the country. That he’d had no meaningful relationships left to maintain. But he’d forgotten about his fellow Dark Mirror Senshi.

Not that he even knew if they remembered him, much less missed him. But Sadalsuud was a special case. Even if he had missed no one else in his court, she was the one exception. It seemed he was less free of being connected to others than he’d originally thought…but somehow, just then, that didn’t feel like a bad thing.

Every instinct screamed at Sadalsuud to run as she did her best to try and face down the charging bird barrelling its way towards her whilst simultaneously trying her best to ignore the sick feeling of dread that churned in her gut.

She wasn’t a fighter, couldn’t even throw a proper punch–

And she had never claimed to be particularly brave.

But if she moved then the cats would be exposed and might get hurt.

No, if she moved then the cats would almost certainly get hurt - because what chance would they have against a large demented bird that looked like something out of a nightmare?

She hadn’t noticed the second aura that like hers carried a super senshi’s strength, too caught up in worry about the cats to realise that someone had been there to see her transform–

But Sadalsuud couldn’t miss the taller figure that suddenly darted in front of her and the cats or the sound of talons hitting something metallic.

Nor was she expecting a voice that was familiar for all that it had literally been years, her lips parting in a silent stunned 'O'.

The screeching and hissing behind her was a reminder that this wasn’t the time, Sadalsuud somehow managed a jerky nod that most certainly went unseen given that her fellow Court member had his back turned towards her.

"Right" she said, doing her best to make shooing gestures at the cats as she spoke and winced slightly as it earned her a scratch on the leg from one of the other cats.

But at least the cats were moving and even better were moving away from the bird – even if Mr Socks had somehow managed to break one of the egg-like things whilst doing so.

Sadalsuud turned and stepped back towards the other senshi - because if she hadn’t been about to abandon the stray cats to the demented bird then she most definitely wasn’t going to leave Sinope alone with it either–

Not when Sinope had been her first friend within the Court.

As the yowling and hissing of the cats behind him lessened, Sinope could tell the majority of them had scattered for the most part and he fell back to take up a fighting stance beside Sadalsuud, still grinning for all he was worth. Despite their situation, he sure was happy to see the Dark Mirror Senshi of Clovers.

"Thanks," he told her as he snuck some glimpses about him to make sure the cats had gone. "Long time no see, huh? I guess we'll have to catch up later, though. Now about this dino-bird thing - got any ideas? Must have a fun new magical upgrade now that you're a super senshi, right?" he asked, playfully teasing a little. "Otherwise I can try to use some Karv Maga on it, but I don't know how well martial arts that were meant to incapacitate humans will work on this thing."

"I'd like that, to catch up" Sadalsuud admitted as green eyes flicked to track the nightmarish bundle of screeching feathers. "I.. I missed seeing you around."

Sinope’s comment about her magical upgrade drew an unexpected laugh from her, the sound bubbling up into the evening air and intermixing with the screeches from the feathered nightmare.

"Well, it’s still clovers," she admitted, as a wry smile tugged at her lips. "And I'm not sure that I'd call it fun exactly - but I did manage to finally figure out that my magic seems to help with luck."

Her smile faltered - because it was something that she found out the hard way.

Green eyes shifted once more towards the screeching "bird" as it seemed to ready it for another wild charge and then Sadalsuud called on her magic.

"Clover's Fortune!"

A glowing four-leaf clover formed, still medium in size, but now gleaming gold rather than its previous green–

And whilst the magic was subtly different, it seemed like some things never changed as Sadalsuud's first instinct was to hold the glowing golden clover out to Sinope.

Kitomyx
Super Sailor Scout Attack: Clover's Fortune
Sailor Sadalsuud calls on her magic which takes the form of a medium-sized glowing golden four-leaved clover. Sailor Sadalsuud has a few seconds to either give this clover to an ally or choose to keep it for herself and then the clover will glow and disappear.

Magical effect: Whilst the effects of the magic is not immediately apparent, the magic will boost the target’s luck for the duration of the attack. This allows for an attack (physical or magical) to hit better than expected (for a boost of 10%) or for their dodge to be improved (for a boost of 10%). The magic will do one or the other. It will not do both.

Target: self or 1 ally
Duration: 30 seconds
Usage: Twice, but not on the same person

"Yeah...that'll be nice," Sinope agreed, fondness seeping into his tone just as much as it permeated his expression when he smiled at her. "And same here. Let's finish this up as quick as we can, then, so we can talk."

Her laugh drew a delighted look from him, happy to have earned it even if it was just due to something silly he'd said. Suddenly the giant, stinking, screaming bird didn't seem so intimidating in the face of such a sweet laugh.

The faltering of her smile did not go unnoticed, but Sinope knew better than to ask about it just then. He waited and watched curiously to see what Sadalsuud had in mind once she called out her attack name.

He blinked as she manifested a glowing, gold four-leaf clover and held it out to him. He hesitated, but for no more than a nano-second before accepting the gift, and not a moment too soon. As soon as he'd taken it, the little gold plant's glow seemed to consume it until it faded out of existence and was gone.

Then, Sinope felt...different. He wasn't sure how or why, but he had a good feeling all of a sudden. It had to have had something to do with Sadalsuud's golden four-leaf clover, no doubt.

"Thank you," he told her with a genuine smile before turning back toward the avian menace and running up to it. Once he was within range, he performed a series of attacks that he'd been taught: groin kick (though naturally, it didn't have the same effect since a bird groin was not the same as a human's), hammer fist, palm strike, ears slap (something else that didn't quite work the same, but was performed nonetheless), eyes gouge, head butt, elbow, and finally the clinch and knee strike.

During this exchange, the bird backed up - enough to step on its own eggs which caused it to cry out as if it itself were in pain. Sinope frowned in confusion, especially when he saw that the eggs were completely empty. Could there have been something more to breaking them than he realized?

"Sadalsuud! The eggs!"

Sinope had mentioned that he wasn't sure that Krav Maga would have much effect on the mangled abomination masquerading as something that may have once, in some distant and unfortunate past, been a chicken.

In another life that is.

And maybe it wasn’t supposed to work, given that the screeching mass of odious feathers was still technically some type of twisted avian.

But it appeared as if something had definitely connected–

At least if the sudden spike in banshee-grade screeching was anything to go by.

It was a sound that made the fine hairs on her arms stand on end, as it wove itself into the sound of crunching - crunching that turned out to be the sound of a goodly amount of the egg-like things shattering under razor-tipped talons–

Possibly even all of them, though from where she stood, Sadalsuud couldn’t quite tell - especially with Sinope yelling something about the eggs.

She stepped closer, only to end up stumbling over and crushing even more of them.

And she’d been expecting yolk. Or goo. Or something

But instead the shattered shells were almost disturbingly empty.

Another screech rang out from Sinope’s direction, but it seemed almost mournful–

And then there was silence.

Sadalsuud picked herself up awkwardly from the ground, a few of the larger shards of shell crunching further under her green shoes as she stepped across the remaining distance towards Sinope.

Still silence, although the smell of sulphur still lingered stubbornly in the air.

Her green eyes glanced anxiously around the park, a part of her still not entirely convinced that the nightmare bird had actually vanished, as she called out "Are you okay Sinope?"

Once Sadalsuud had finished crushing the last of the eggs, whether she meant to or not, Sinope was astonished to find that the bird, after a final, almost mournful-seeming cry, vanished into a plume of nasty smoke. It was amazing to him that it had vanished as cleanly as the eggs had broken, but then he reminded himself that he was in Destiny City again. Anything could happen there.

Exhaling a deep sigh of relief, he looked up at the sound of Sadalsuud walking toward him and he hurried the rest of the way to her as she asked if he was okay.

"Me?! I'm fine, but what about you?"

They still had so many things to talk about - catching up, why her smile had faultered, and of course that he had seen something he shouldn't have - but he wanted to make sure she wasn't hurt first.

"That was really brave of you to stick around and protect those cats, you know."

"I didn’t really do that much though," Sadalsuud said wryly, as a small, almost self-deprecating smile tugged at her lips–

Because she wasn’t entirely convinced that she’d been as much help to Sinope with the avian nightmare as Sinope had been to her - especially as the eggs had mostly ended up being crushed more by accident than design.

"I’m just really glad you’re okay, though," she added with a softer smile that carried a flicker of relief.

Sadalsuud shifted a little, looking awkward in the way that was most likely very much her, when Sinope complimented her for staying behind to defend the cats, hesitating for a moment before admitting quietly "I’m not sure it was bravery," as a her lips curved in a small tentative smile for a moment before fading as she confessed, "Honestly, I was terrified. But… I couldn’t just leave them on their own."

Still she was safe, Sinope was safe, the cats were safe - and the avian nightmare was gone–

And though there was plenty left for the two of them to catch up on, Sadalsuud was more than willing to count that as a win.
