Although Star Fest had come and gone for another year, Mi-Hi still wasn't quite able to bring herself to take down the paper star decorations that adorned the windows of her tiny apartment.

She kept telling herself just a few more days, but a few more days had quietly turned into a week, then two.

Maybe she’d pack them away next week.

Maybe.

One thing that was sure however was they wouldn't be coming down tonight.

Instead she (or rather Sadalsuud had planned to drop by the stray cats at the park near her old place of work with some treats that she'd picked up on impulse prior to powering up.

The park in question didn't have a mirror, but there was one in a nearby alley that was just a short walk away–

And another one in another park, a little further out, that was still close enough to walk the distance by foot.

The evening had been pleasant enough that Sadalsuud had ended up opting for the other park over the alley, slipping through a mirror nestled in a small cluster of trees before pausing to gaze up at the stars for a moment–

It had taken a few moments more for her to realise that she wasn't actually alone in the park as green eyes stared at a figure garbed in thistle and what appeared to be a capelet that stood a little further ahead.

Oh, it was a mirror senshi.

Andreiya spotted her easily enough, not because of her outfit–sometimes he couldn’t tell the difference between senshi wardrobe and common garb–but because he expected a monster to jump out of the trees and attack him.

Was it a logical deduction?

Yes.

He hadn’t been jumped by monsters often, but even once was enough.

It was too hard to tell who was trustworthy or not but he wasn’t going to save Velencya by standing around hiding.

So, Andreiya clutched his clipboard to his chest and stood up straight. He drew in a deep breath and did not reach for the blaster at his side because he wanted to appear nice and friendly.

“Hello!” he shouted. It was supposed to be a friendly greeting but his volume had gotten away from him. He cleared his throat and tried again. “Do you have a moment to talk? I have questions. You might have answers.”

The 'hello' rang out so loudly that Sadalsuud flinched, as a part of her instinctively considered turning tail and attempting to beat a retreat back to the mirror–

After all the alleyway was still an option and one that was likely to be empty.

Probably.

Hopefully.

And had the taller figure had an Order aura she might have done just that.

Sadalsuud tried to keep her encounters with Order to as few as she could make them, but when they had occurred, they had almost always been unpleasant.

Almost.

The encounter with the Order senshi with the cute little head wings and fox tail had been a exception, albeit a rare one.

What swayed her now was the quieter follow-up of the 'Do you have a moment to talk...?'

Well that, and the distinct absence of an Order aura.

Plus, people didn’t usually say 'hello' before attacking someone–

Even if said hello had been shouted.

“Um, yes?” Sadalsuud managed at last as she offered a nervous smile. “I have some time.”

Andreiya breathed an audible sigh of relief but he kept his shoulders squared and ankles pressed together.

“Oh, good.”

He didn’t quite relax, but when he realized that she wasn’t coming to him, he shuffled to her.

“Hello,” he said again, this time at a more conversational level. He stayed a few feet away, a little more than necessary but he forgot what the appropriate social boundary was with humans, and she was a bit small.

“You are not a White Moon Senshi,” he observed. “Have you been to your homeworld? I am doing research. You are–” he squinted at her, scrutinized, and turned his head left and right. “From the mirror? Do things grow there?”

It was the other’s seeming awkwardness that made Sadalsuud finally relax, enough so for her to manage a small, tentative smile as he shuffled across the space between them.

"Um… hello," she said quietly.

And whilst the other had said that he had questions, she hadn’t been expecting the sudden torrent of questions.

"Uh…" She said as her mind scrambled to catch up.

"No, I’m not a White Moon senshi," She said at last, having managed to piece together enough of the question barrage to respond.

Sadalsuud hesitated for a moment before adding "And they don’t really like me very much."

Or the Court for that matter.

Well at least that had been her experience.

"But yes I’m from the Court" she admitted quietly.

She blinked when he asked about homeworlds, her brows knitting slightly.

“There are… Homeworlds?”

She hadn’t really known that was a thing–

Although to be fair, that was likely linked to the fact that Sadalsuud didn’t power up all that often.

“What?” Andreiya asked, face twisting into a perplexed scowl. He had to visibly draw in a breath and unscrew his expression into something tamer. “What do you mean ‘there are homeworlds’? All senshi have homeworlds, do they not?”

He gave her a scrupulous look and then clicked the pen he was carrying, rapidly scribbling something on the first page of his clipboard.

“They do,” he answered for her, eyes darting from the page and back before he clicked his pen once more and returned the clipboard to his chest. “The normal ones. I don’t know much about the mirror ones, that’s why I’m asking you. You didn’t answer the most important question, though. I want to know if anything grows in your mirror world. You know, plants? Do you have soil there? What composition? What is your atmospheric reading?” he asked, tapping his foot in a way that might have been anticipatory as much as annoyed.

Sadalsuud instinctively flinched back slightly at the other’s scowl.

"I... Wouldn’t know," she admitted quietly. "I didn’t even know that homeworlds were a thing."

It wasn’t something that she’d heard mentioned within the Court, although Sadalsuud would be the first to admit that she wasn’t exactly its most active member so there was a strong possibility that homeworlds were a thing and she’d somehow managed to miss it.

Or maybe it was an Order thing.

Maybe.

But Sadalsuud wasn’t about to try seeking out an Order senshi for answers, not when her experiences with Order had generally been negative less than pleasant.

Mr Rem would probably know given that Mr Rem seemed to know something about everything, but Sadalsuud tried her best to try not to bother him, even though he’d told her more than once that he didn’t mind if she did–

Because Remarque was likely wrapped up in Prince things, and Sadalsuud didn’t want to intrude.

She tried to unsuccessfully stifle a sigh as the other mentioned something about ‘normal ones’ having homeworlds, because Sadalsuud had always thought of herself as fairly normal–

Although at least he hadn’t called her ‘evil’.

Yet.

"I’ve never seen any plants grow in Mirrorspace" she said finally "But none of my visits there have ever really been the same."

Well, apart from the somewhat depressing amount of times that Mirrorspace had tried to ‘squish’ them.

Sadalsuud paused, before admitting reluctantly "But Arnica mentioned that the Mirrorscape has plots."

She added quickly "But I’ve only been there the once though."

The Mirrorscape was a little too tangled up in all the stuff with Queen Altea in her mind–

And whilst Arnica had said that he'd be happy to take her sometime, their schedules hadn’t really aligned.

Although Sadalsuud hadn’t tried all that hard to make them line up either.

Oh, that expression was too–

Too raw, too pure, too blunt.

Andreiya opened his mouth to say more but instead had to press his lips together tightly to silence himself.

“I…see,” he said, even though he didn’t. He suddenly doubted he might be able to get much information out of this one, but it felt too awkward to just stand there in silence. He clicked his pen against the clipboard in the quiet.

Once. Twice. Three times, and then in rapid succession until he realized what he was doing and stopped.

“...Let me rephrase. Would you…like....company…going into the Mirror?” he asked, like the words were foreign on his tongue. “And maybe I can trade information with you? I can tell you of homeworlds. And I will trade you two strawberries. Big ones. Good ones. You will never have a better one. And I only want to look for plants. And take some readings. For science–good science!” he corrected quickly. “It’s for helping people!”

Whilst the repetitive click of the pen ought to have been irritating, Sadalsuud felt herself relaxing a little as the tension in her shoulders eased slightly.

"I.. like strawberries," she offered up tentatively.

Sadalsuud hesitated for a moment before adding "And I'd be okay with taking you into Mirrorspace," she paused briefly before adding "As long as you're okay with it being me."

She managed a small but wry smile as she admitted "You might get more out of it with a different senshi."

Because Sadalsuud was pretty open about the fact that she wasn’t particularly the strongest of senshi.

"But I could ask some of the other Court members, if you’d rather go with someone else…?” Her voice trailed into a gentle question, the choice deliberately placed in the other’s hands.

And whilst admittedly her list of contacts within the Court wasn't particularly long, Sadalsuud was willing to try and reach out, if that's what the other wanted.

Andreiya looked up at her curiously. “Why would I want someone else? I have found you. I have no desire to complicate things.” Or further divide the spoils of his labor. Besides, Sadal didn’t seem very deceptive. If they wound up fighting, he was quite sure he could overtake her in combat.

…Although, perhaps it was a bit unfair to let his mind wander there first. She seemed polite. Kind, in a way that humans were, but too sheepish. He didn’t think it was possible to act so shy so he trusted that she was simply like that.

“Unless that is your Earthly way of saying you secretly do not wish to take me? I am a very pleasant guest,” he insisted, and stood taller and puffed out his chest a bit as if presence alone was enough to be convincing. “And if it goes well, perhaps we can come to a mutually beneficial arrangement. I am ready to go whenever you are. And if it is not tonight, I would like to schedule a time for us. This is very important to me,” he said and, remembering his manners, added a most polite, “Please.”

Sadalsuud gave a gentle shake of her head. "No, no," she said firmly with quiet conviction, "I'd have said something if it bothered me."

Her tone softened, "But I'm not the most knowledgeable member of the Court and don't go into Mirrorspace as much as some of the others."

Truthfully Sadalsuud doubted that she even powered up as much as something of the others.

"So chances are that other Court members will likely know more about things than I do if you end up having questions - and have better answers than I can give."

Sadalsuud paused, then added with a hint of uncertainty, "I.. Just wanted to give you options."

A small smile tugged at her lips as she added. “But I wasn’t joking about liking strawberries.”

Sadalsuud's expression turned thoughtful as the other mentioned scheduling another time if tonight wasn't suitable. "I can’t actually do tonight," she admitted, "But I can do early next week after I feed the cats if that works for you? Maybe Tuesday evening? I could come here straight afterwards."

She hesitated, then chuckled softly. "Although, if we’re going to be heading into Mirrorspace together, then we should probably know each other’s names. Mine’s Sadalsuud - but you can call me Sadal, if that’s easier."

Andreiya considered her words, watching shrewdly. Immediately, he scribbled something on his clipboard and nodded quickly. “Tuesday evening, is that eight, sharp? Nine, ten? I’ll be here. I will be here, exactly on time,” he insisted, like saying it allowed made it a promise they were both obligated to keep.

“If I have questions you cannot ask them, you can ask your Court. And then you can tell me later. I can wait, I am patient.”

More than humans were. “And I will pay you in many strawberries. Good ones. Here,” he reached into his subspace and produced a small basket, neatly and gently wrapped in soft cloth, and produced a golfball sized strawberry–one of the smallest in the basket. He held it out for her. “So you will know that I am honest.”

“I will call you Sadalsuud, unless you want me to call you Sadal. I am Andreiya. My human name–it is fake–is Andrei. You can call me whichever. Okay?”

Sadalsuud paused and weighed up the different options for a moment.

Ten felt awfully late, but she wasn’t sure that she wanted to opt for eight either - even with mirrorwalking meaning that she was unlikely to be late–

"Let’s say nine," Sadalsuud suggested finally, because it was midway between eight and ten and would allow her to also feed the stray cats beforehand.

Her expression lit up as he offered her the largest strawberry that she had ever seen.

"You don’t have to prove anything to me," she said, although she accepted the offered strawberry nonetheless. "But this is the prettiest strawberry I’ve ever seen."

And it was without question also undeniably the biggest. "I'm going to really enjoy eating it."

She nodded when he said he’d call her Sadalsuud - because she truly didn’t mind being called either name. "And I’ll call you Andreiya," she replied with a small but bright smile.

But with the stray cats still waiting Sadalsuud knew that it was time to go.

"I’ll see you next Tuesday at nine," she murmured and waved with the hand that wasn't holding on to the strawberry, before heading off toward the other park and her furry companions for the evening.
