Yes, Rowan had convinced him to allow that helpful cat to give him a glamour, and yes he did have some kind of weird splint thing on his nose from the heel of that stupid ******** hand, but that didn’t mean that he would completely stop looking like himself whenever he could. As far as he was concerned, that meant he could wander unglamoured around town as much as he wanted so long as he called it a patrol. Patrolling didn’t necessarily have to mean that he was hunting youma (unarmed at that, how do those humans get anything done?) Nor, for that matter, did it mean that he had to be sober. Though he suspected that the owner of the liquor store wouldn’t agree with him on that point. At least in light of the way he’d acquired the bottle, they probably wouldn’t care much if he was sinking into a bottle paid for in full.

He transferred the bottle from his left hand to his right, flexing his stiff, aching fingers before taking another deep swig.

The sudden greeting (it sounded like a greeting at least) caught Sailor Bacchus off guard, focused as he was on thoughts of petty and not so petty vengeance. Alright, maybe it would pass more easily for a patrol if he at least pretended to be aware of his surroundings. At least the new arrival wasn’t one of those Chaos ********, though a chance to balance that plate wouldn’t exactly be unwelcome.

“Hey!”

He raised his bottle in greeting as the other senshi came into focus and felt his eyes widen at the realization that this was not a human. Nothing quite like himself, but definitely not a human. “Nice night for it, eh?” He mustered a winning grin as he lied about his own hatred for the planet’s heat.

Swimming in something other than the hideously wet air was a decent alternative to walking around in the heat, but still. He wasn’t in a rush to meet the “cryptid” Rowan had told him about in one of her swimming places. The water here was too warm anyway.

“Bacchus, and I’m ‘patrolling’ if my host asks. I did punch out one of those Chaos monsters, but I’m looking for frogs.”

Bacchus stared blankly at the other senshi’s outstretched fist. He was still learning the various gestures humans used, and adding the customs of other planets? That was still a lot to learn. With a slightly confused grimace he patted the top of Vizi’s clenched fingers, hoping that would be at least an adequate response.

The question confused him as much as it ever did, why did so many people find it odd to look for frogs? If anything it was odd to not look for frogs. They really should appreciate their fauna more. Maybe if they saw it.

No. None of that. None. Done with that.

“Frogs are great, have you actually sat and watched them? They’re hilarious! Plus they eat the little flying ******** who hang around the pond.” He made a face. Tempesti had told him they were called “mosquitoes” but “flying ********” felt right. Better.

“…Oh. I’m still working on that. I don’t know how these Earth people do these things.”

Bacchus grinned at the other senshi’s interest, he had no doubt that actually watching them would persuade them of their hilariousness.

“Yeah actually, I do. I was walking over to see them now.” He gestured in the general direction of the pond, the contents of his bottle sloshing about as he did.

“C’mon, these frogs are usually pretty active around this time of night.”

As he and his new acquaintance approached the pond, he was grateful for the evening’s remaining light. For some reason, Earth didn’t allow him to see quite as well in the dark as he did back home, but the frogs were as lively as he’d hoped. To Bacchus’ delight, his little green friends leaped and capered about in pursuit of their flying food and whatever else it was they liked.

“See? They’re like big mouths with legs. Love these guys.”

Bacchus’ delight was visible at the other senshi’s reaction to the frogs, they definitely seemed to get it.

“I’ve watched videos- have you seen videos? They’re this human thing. Like someone trapped what you’re watching behind the glass so you can watch them. But I’ve watched videos where these frogs squeak, I saw one of them that screams. It’s weird, they’re mad but I don’t know why they don’t bite the humans watching them. Tempesti, my host, called it filming them. I don’t know what that means, exactly.”

He frowned slightly at the admission of his own cluelessness regarding human technology. Not that he was complaining, he definitely liked the “videos,” he just wished that things weren’t so…different. Overwhelmingly different. Maybe he’d get used to it. He shook his head slightly and returned to himself. He was alive and that had to be enough.

“Y’know, I’ve never tried to catch one. I did have one jump on my face once though. I scared it when I laughed though.”

Bacchus listened as Vizi talked, nodding. He liked dogs well enough, they were funny on their own but a blue one would definitely be novel. “That’s a shame, I’d like to see a blue dog. Unless someone painted it, I guess. Unless dogs like that? I don’t know. I don’t have a dog.” Maybe there were blue dogs somewhere and that’s where they got the idea. And he had seen things about dogs finding clues so that had to be true. And finding things that were none of their business that people should really have the right to carry around if they wanted to.

“Yes! That sounds amazing. Message her, Tempesti didn’t know what I was talking about when I asked her.”

Whatever skills Tempesti might have, frog knowledge was not among them. Vizi’s question caught Bacchus off-guard and the mental image of a mass frog attack sent him into a fit of giggles. “I’ve never tried to catch one, maybe they’d attack us. Or hit us with their sticky little tongues, they shoot out and grab things. It’s pretty great. I wouldn’t want to eat one though.” He made a face at the thought.

Bacchus nodded, still curious about the blue dog and their hunt for clues. Maybe it would give him some clues of his own in terms of the existence of actual blue dogs. “That does sound fun, bet it’s weird. Does the dog talk? Do dogs talk? I’ve never seen one do it, but Earth is weird.”

He quirked his head at the sound of the other deep space senshi’s phone, eager to hear Cardinal’s answer and grinning at the revelation. “I’ll have to look for those guys, maybe I’ll figure out where they live.”

Bacchus had heard of a zoo, it was his understanding that Earth humans kept wild animals there. Why the wild animals cooperated with it was anyone’s guess, maybe they liked the food. “I’ve never been to a zoo before, what do you think they have there? Think there are lions? I saw them in the videos but I don’t think there are any in the city.” The excitement in his voice was obvious. He would most definitely enjoy seeing them.
