All he was used to, all he knew, could not be found on this planet as far as Athebyne knew but that wasn’t all bad. One of the biggest differences was all the architecture surrounding them, and because they were in such a large city it was impossible to miss, because cities on his home planet were nothing like this. But he liked some of the architecture here, even if it was so very different from his home. There was something about the gargoyles in this city and the ones he’d seen online…pictures of them on other buildings in other cities - in other countries. There was just so much detail involved, as well as skill, and they served a purpose as well so it wasn’t just decoration.

Knowing the city had some of their own, spread across the city at various locations, he’d asked Pippa to show them to him so he didn’t get lost. While she was new to the city too, something he’d learned recently, she at least had a better handle on things than he did. She knew how to use gps for one, and could read street signs better than he could, so he’d figured it best to ask her to accompany him to see these things up close. He’d heard people talking about them, though he hadn’t always heard what else was said about them, so he had no clue that they were attacking people and had done so in the past. He just knew he was headed off to see some which decorated, and protected, a local cathedral.

The fact that her newest friend and half roommate was also interested in exploring made things easier when it came down to what to do for the evening after homework was done, but when Freddy said no magical running around.

"Gargoyles are all over the older buildings back home; they're supposed to keep the bad stuff away. At least that's what mum and dad told us." Looking up as she walked down the street with them, she was glad to be out of the condo and walking around.

At least as long as nothing spooky happened again. It had been hard enough to explain why the newest member of the condo was acting angry and cold after that weird gameboard.

It was why tonight she was supposed to keep things normal and non-magical, even if she wanted to pop around with her magical outfit and powers.

"Spirits not real though?" He questioned. His own home land had it's spirits, it's dieities, though as they'd advanced they had kept only important ones. He didn't know this himself, of course, but there was a goddess of harvest who was sought out half of the year when thigns grew and were plucked from the ground. There was one of motherhood, often prayed to for daughters when a mother did not want another son. Sometimes a mother, who had no sons to have tend to things around the home, would pray for a son but more often than not it was a mother praying for another daughter to raise. Daughters were what many wanted, a son was a curse even as they tneded the home and did all the tasks till they were old enough to send off.

"Spirits are gods...right?" He questioned finally, slowly, he didn't grasp much on spirits and deities and the like on this planet. It was a lot to take in and he'd only just brushed over it all because of the season right now and it's apparent affiliation with spirits and the like. But why ward off deities?

"Gods are bad?"

Because his people didn't believe in spirits of the dead, or that there were ghosts or some sort of soul which remained of dead family members. There was no such thing as that where he was from. So for him spirit was a deity of sort, one he'd heard of and seen prayed to when he was growing up, but had never prayed to himself...he had no reason to and certainly hadn't a right to. Who was he to ask a female, much less a female deity, for anything. It was not his place.

Stuffing his hands in his pockets, cold but determined to explore a bit, he felt his tail wag a bit as he was excited to see these gargoyles and took a moment to glance upwards...as if he might see them already. They were close, very close, but not there just yet.

While her knee jerk reaction would be to agree, she looked at Athebyne and frowned. "Sprits are real, one yells at me everytime I go to Saturn, he's a right b*****d." Crossing her arms over, she pouted at least until they mentioned gods and that got her laughing.

"Oh cripes no Isaiah isn't a god, spirits are just people who have passed on. I'm not sure about the other. But I wouldn't say they're bad just troublesome for the living." Following along, she wasn't sure how to go about some of these thing since she hadn't really needed to think about them.

"What was it like back home?" Looking up towards the rooftops as she spoke, she noticed they were getting closer to the older buildings and the churches where the gargoyles were supposed to be.

"Spirits...not gods but people....dead people." Why were dead people spirits and why did they hang around? Shouldn't the dead be just that - dead? The dead were buried and became part of the ground which fed on them, and what grew fro mthe ground nourished people and animals alike. But if a spirit was not a god but a dead person...what part of a dead person was it, because it was clearly different here than it was back home.

"The dead...are not all dead here?" Thinking over it, it was a lot to think about and take in, this world seemd a bit less...safe. To have the dead wandering, for them to interact, he was certain some dead did not want to be dead and would cause issues for thje living. Why had he not encountered one of these spirits before? He didn't ask, not yet, he didn't think it polite to ask too many things. It wasn't even his place to ask anything and he was doing just that, he was over stepping.

"Back home....too much to say...not my plac - don't know enough." He could say a lot but it wouldn't all be good, and it wasn't his place to speak about his planet, he couldn't speak ill of those who had been above him. To speak of his homeworld, his people, would be to speak ill of those who were better than himself...and even now he could not do that. But if she asked questions perhaps he could answer those questions...within reason, watching what he said and how he said it, to ask him to just speak of his home world was...too open. It meant she wanted to know all about it and to describe things would be bad, would be speaking ill, and he could not do that. He could only hope her questions would be safe and easy to answer.

"Gargyoles..." He said finally, after a moment of sielnce, pointing upwards. They were here...and he was excited to see them. He had never worked with stone and he did want to see them. Though he'd heard they were attacking people...which was not good. Maybe they'd get lucky, though he did doubt that.

Nodding slightly, she wasn't exactly sure of her answer, but it was the best she could do. At least until the next question came, and she made a face. "I'm not sure about here, but I've seen some weird things in the city. Isaiah, the ghost, is on Saturn where my cool magic stuff comes from."

"Oh, well, I mean I want to hear about it since it's probably really different, but maybe later if you want?" At least sort of catching the attempt at saying it wasn't his place before the side track to saying he didn't know.

Stopping as he pointed upwards, she looked at the gargoyles and noticed something that felt a bit off. Usually, they would get covered in bird shite or look kind of smoothed over by the rain, but these looked clean with sharp details still.

"Did... one of them just move?" As she stepped forward in front of Athebyne and pulled her lantern out. The sound of stone grinding against stone was soft, so she squinted and looked between the stone gargoyles as she tried to figure out if she'd just heard things.

Maybe in time he'd explain his home planet, as best as he could anyway, there was just a lot he couldn't speak on - things he had no right to talk about. There were a lot of things that weren't his place, had never been, and even now he didn't feel like he oculd say some things...speak certain ways. He'd do his best though, in time, because maybe talking about it would help him in some manner. He didn't know what way, not really, but maybe just talking about his home planet would help him understand everything which had happened and compare it to here - to a very different world.

Ears twitched and he looked around the knight which stood in front of him. "Mmm, moved. Can hear it..." His hearing wasn't too great, maybe a touch better than a humans, but he was certain he'd heard stone grinding on stone. This didn't bode well for them, not really, but he also was interested in seeing stone statues come to life. It seemed utterly impossible and yet it seemed true.

"Tell me more...about this here...this planet. I tell about my planet...when I can." She could ask him things and he'd answer, it would be easier. He could handle that and it would keep him from rambling, among other things, because he was certain he'd do just that. Rambling, right now especially, would be no good as his English was terrible...it would leave things so hard to understand.

"Now these." He said nodding his head, hearing more stone against stone and seeing it move...it actually moved, stretched.

With a sharp nod, she was a little curious about them coming to life. Most of the magical stuff going on seemed so cool still, except when it was gross or bad guy magic.

Finally seeing something move more than just a little, two of the gargoyles spread their stone wings and started down towards them. They weren't fast, not that she expected them to be, but she still had a dumbfounded look of wonder on her face. "Aw cripes, they really are moving!" Swinging her lantern out, she tried to catch one as it hovered closer to them.

"I'll tell you more after these okay? Be careful! Bambi will get soooooooo mad if we get hurt."

"Bambi?" He questioned while back stepping, putting more distance between himself and one of the gargoyles, getting hit by that stone thing would hurt and likely leave marks. Side stepping, as needed, the brunette was smiling at the challenge the gargoyle bothering with him presented. It was slow, slower than he was, but it was bulkier and it was flying so there were those advantages.

He could use his magic, not that he'd ever used it before, he'd never used it even when alone on his home world...there had never been a reason to. He knew the words but what it did, what would happen, he hadn't a clue. He wasn't even sure his magic would or could work. Would it fail him when he finally went to try it? That was what kept him from using it, his worry it would fail, and instead he kicked at the gargoyle when it came for him. No doubt he'd be bruised, it hurt hitting stone so hard, but damn it if it didn't help push the thing back some.

"City not so safe." As much as he didn't like his home world it was at least safe, now that everyone was dead there, if it had food avalible it would be perfect.

"My brother, you know him." Making a stern face like he did, even if it looked weird on her face. "He'll say no more going out at night or no more magic adventures!" Pouting, she moved and swung down hard on the one that Athe had kicked, sending it down to the ground to break against the bricks.

"HA! Wanker!" Looking at the other one, she panted slightly from how hard it had been to hit the other one. Her shoulder was definitely sore and would be for a bit, but she could say it was from fencing practice or something like that.

"That's why we're here! We need to help make it safe for people who can't fight and use magic or weapons."

"What is Bambi?" Aside from her brother, obviously, but that word meant something and he was clueless as to what that was. Perhaps she could explain, or later show him somehow? He was protective of her...shouldn't he be? Though she could fight and hold her own as well, as she should, he watched as she dealt a finishing blow to the gargoyle which had been after him...the one he'd kicked. The thing broke apart against the ground, good, and he wondered what would happen with the missing gargoyles on the building. Would someone in charge notice? Would new ones be needed? Who would make the new ones...these ones looked old, and weathered.

"Can't fight either...never have." He said, biting down on his bottom lip with a fang, chewing on the soft flesh of his bottom lip. He was certain it was obvious, he knew it had to be, but he did try and made the hit the remaining gargoyle. This time rather than kicking he used a fist, and yelped loudly in pain as a result. Yup, he was no fighter. He would try, as he should, but it seemed that he'd just hurt himself...perhaps more than he'd hurt anything else. The only thing going for him was that the gargoyle hit the ground and a wing broke so it could no longer fly, even though it seemed determined to try and take flight. Deciding to finish things, if he could, he went to kick it again...another move he did regret as it hurt.

"Hurt...too hard to hit." Though the kick had done the job, and finished the gargoyle, his foot was hurting though his fist hurt more...his knuckles ached and he spotted red skin and even some blood.

"Done?"
