Honestly, Diaboleite couldn't believe the situation he found himself in. He wasn't much of a game-player or a gambler, and it had been an impulse to pick up those dice in the first place--it seemed silly, now, and he could barely understand why he'd done it. It felt even more ridiculous when the die had taken him to a strange, dark place, with strange symbols on squares stretching uot in front of him.
He sighed, unhappily. There wasn't any immediate danger, but he wasn't interested in standing around and waiting to see what might happen. Better to play this...game, and get on with it. Hopefully he would find his way out swiftly and get back to Melody for the evening.
That would be a much preferable way to spend his time.

Quote: Space 6: You hear a shrill, humming noise; it sounds almost like something is firing past you–and sometimes, you even feel a sharp burst of air, like something has just missed you. Maybe, even, it does get a slice out of you. Sharp, bladelike threads seem to string up around you; you’d best be careful not to get cut on any of them between now and your next dice roll. The gameboard opened with what Diaboleite personally considered a threat.
A whistling. And then a sharp sting on his cheek. He brought up a hand to check--but he didn't need to, not when he realized what he was seeing. Razor wire, thin and deadly sharp.
He was lucky he'd only gotten a cut on the cheek.
Carefully, he moved to give himself more space--enough to swing his weapon and hack through the wires, clearing himself a path forward.
He would play the board's games. But that did not mean that he had to like them, or lay down and let it win when he was more than prepared to fight.
Honestly.

Quote: Space 11: You hear a frantic flapping above you, but that’s all the warning you get before a hoard of bats descend. They scratch and slap and screech, but you avoid getting bitten. For now. You’ve invaded their space and they seem keen to defend it. You can try to fight them, but the only way to escape them is to roll again. The board had set the tone, and Diabolite was ready to match it. First razor wire--though the cut on his cheek healed as soon as he stepped off the square, which was a relief--and then bats.
He was not particularly interested in skewering animals--that sounded thoroughly unpleasant--and so while he did use his spear to bet them away, it was only with the flat of the blade, no stabbing. And, realistically, he knew that he couldn't drive them off that way--these weren't normal bats, after all. They were likely some kind of magical construct, an that meant their numbers were likely infinite.
So he made his way through, and when he had a moment that was clear enoguh, he rolled the die and started forward.
He was going to leave. That was non-negotiable. The only question was how long it would take.

Quote: Space 15: Bats. Maybe you missed them attacking earlier, but they’re back again, and angrier than ever. Instead of just screeching or scratching, they’re swooping down and biting now–and the effects are instantaneous. The little teeth are sharp and painful, but once bitten you might feel agitated and prone to violence, and you might feel perpetually cold and hungry with no relief in sight. The effects might last when you leave the square–or they might linger for a few hours or days after you get out of here. Irritatingly, there were more bats. The second time they were not so friendly as the first--the first set had mostly seemed scared, but these seemed angry.
And when little teeth sank into Diaboleite's wrist as he tried to smack one away with his hands, he felt a shiver move down his spine, and a sudden desire to hurt them back. They were angry and violent--but he could be angry and violent too. He still kept to using the blunt end of his spear--who knew what these beasts had in their blood--but he smacked them out of the way with ferocity and force.
The problem was, there were so many of them--and they kept coming, kept biting, and no matter how much he wanted to fight, he couldn't fight forever.
So, finally, he rolled the die.

Quote: Space 20: The end; once you have arrived here you are free to leave. You will see be basked in the glow of a beautiful, opalescent aura that will take you back home. If you arrived with a guest, you can leave without them or choose to stay until they make it to the end as well. When you arrive back in Destiny City, you may choose to keep the six sided die–if nothing else, it’s pretty! Though, it doesn’t seem to have any magical qualities, that might be for the best. When he made it to the final square, it was with a sense of deep relief. Diabolite had stumbled away cold and uncomfortable, but as he'd moved to the end of the board, the sharp pains of little razor bat teeth had slowly faded away, and his motions had calmed.
Once he stood in the soft, opalescent, warm light that would take him home, he almost felt normal again.
Most importantly, though, he was more than ready to go home. There was, after all, someone waiting for him.
