There was a cold front from the north, chilling the entire city. They were ‘lucky’, some other areas on their latitudes had snow, snow this early in the season did not bode well, but it was still ******** cold, and there was a storm brewing in the sky above. Tortuga was glad for his thicker, layered, uniform that night even if it made things a bit too warm in the heat of summer. And yet, he was still cold. So why exactly was he out there in the middle of the night patrolling? He had no ******** clue!

He was tired but couldn’t sleep. His own memories were haunting him like a bad smell and rather than letting them linger over a glass or several of whiskey the knight decided to brave the chill of the night. He wasn’t expecting anyone to actually be out, the best he figured would happen was him directing a few homeless to shelters. The worst would be calling emergency services for civilians doing stupid s**t. He wasn’t expecting magical s**t to be going down. It was too damn cold out for magical crap to happen. It’s why he was checking one of his little med kits he had squirreled throughout the city for anyone to use, nothing complicated or expensive, but useful none the less. Quiet nights like this where the darkness in his own head drove him out into the darkness of the city were perfect times to check the kits. Giving him both something to focus on other then his own ******** up life and the illusion that he was doing something to help others. Especially if he comes across a missing kit. They had likely been stolen but he chose to believe that they were used for their intended purpose. To help those in need.

It was the only thing he was good for after all…

Tortuga was on his way to the next med kit location according to his records when the distant sounds of a fight drew his attention. As he got closer a distinct aura had him picking up speed until he was racing towards the fight, sure he would not like what he found when he got there. Nothing good ever came of the sounds of fighting with only a basic aura of a senshi… a chibi senshi, around. A child. A child fighting.

The squire picked up speed and prayed he got there in time before anything serious happened.

It had been a mostly quiet year, not doing much. Sure, life was busy, it was hard to sneak out of the house as an elementary schooler for some adventure, particularly when her elder brother and cousin both preferred to go with her to make sure she stayed safe (which made sense, since her chibi magic wasn't super reliable, and would sometimes misfire; plus, being the senshi of an emotion meant she was much better at being a cheerleader for others than actually fighting evil herself), but that didn't mean she didn't want to go out and do some good in the world.

So, she had slipped out one sleepless night from her room and gone looking for adventure.

Cooler temperatures had spread throughout the city, though it wasn't yet cold enough for snow. Which wasn't a regular occurrence in Destiny City, but, still, Aquitania would have liked to see a little snow at Christmas every year. It made things so pretty, especially if people weren't going places in it, which in Virginia, things could sometimes lock down when it snowed. Sure, it wasn't great for everyone, but it would be pretty.

She'd gone a good ways from home and was about to start looping home when she had sensed it. A youma, with a queasy feeling on the edge of her mind. She looked around. The chibi was in a park, so she had options for fighting or running, depending on what she needed. Depending on who was around and her magic's cooperativeness, she could see what she could do.

Pausing, she started stretching, making sure she wasn't going to get stiff or something mid combat while she tried to pinpoint the location of the youma.

There. On the path ahead. Flaming eyes opened, and then narrowed as they regarded her. It tilted its head, birdlike, before squawking hoarsely.

Getting up on her toes, she danced out of the way of its charge, and got her first good look at the youma as she began a pirouette, moving like one of the jousting dummies she had been pleased to not deal with at Joyeuse Garde's tournament the day before.

The youma in question seemed to be a turkey, but having only tail feathers. Which streamed fire from blackened feathers.

Aquitania tried to adjust her pirouette so she didn't connect with the flaming feathers, and succeeded in falling over. The youma turned around and squawked hoarsely, breathing a gout of flame into the cold air, both smoky and steaming.

Whatever this youma was seemed to be the Revenge of Thanksgiving Dinner, and it was just rude to involve this much fire.

Scrambling to her feet, she started sprinting toward the first climbable tree she could find that would hold her weight while she weighed her options. Anything she could find to hand was flammable, so her best option was to find a target for her magic, and hope they had something on hand that wasn't flammable.

Please let someone be around this late at night. Please let it be a knight or senshi, and not some random homeless person, who didn't deserve this kind of nonsense.

It happens dear! Your good. I did tweak my first post to mention a stormy sky so hopefully his little magic trick wont immediately get ems involved sweatdrop

Tortuga barreled through the park, not worrying about the damage to the plants he left in his wake. He only slowed down when he burst through the last barrier before seeing the youma and rapidly spotting the child in the line of fire. The squire didn’t hesitate as he skidded to a stop, he barked out ‘Cover your eyes and ears!’ before muttering ‘Jupiter’s Wrath’ and softball lobbing the little ball of light that formed at the youma.

The crack of sound and flash of light was enough to blind and deafen someone unprepared. Tortuga had known what to expect so as soon as he threw the ball he had clamped his hands over his ears and spun around, eyes closed tightly. Even protected that way he still saw the lights through his eyelids and his ears still rang a bit from the sound, but he also knew the fried turkey of a youma was likely in much more dire state then he was. Turning to face the creature revealed just that, the monster was squawking and staggering around. Unharmed but definitely seeing little more than bright lights, something Tortuga could actually understand… he was still blinking away the residual light dots that marred his night vision.

But just because stubborn little motes of light, or one in particular really, was making it harder to see didn’t mean that Tortuga would let the opponent rest on its singed feathers. Instead he raced towards the youma and with a hard side kick, drove the magical bird further away from where the chibi had been. “You ok?” He called out to the child, not turning away from the youma, but blinking to try to remove the last stubborn little mote of light haunting his vision.

Quote:
Jupiter’s Wrath - This spell forms a ball of light that can be tossed into the air, or a crowd, and after approximately 1.5-2 seconds the ball of light ‘explodes’ in a flash of light and a rumble of sound, much like a uncomfortably close lightning strike or a flashbang. The spell can only be thrown up to 20 feet from Tortuga before it fades away harmlessly and can be used up to three times in a fight. The light and sound can affect anyone, including Tortuga, in a radius of up to 20 feet from the spell’s location, but the closer you are to the center of the ‘detonation’ the louder and brighter the spell will be.

Ultimately the spell will cause no physical damage but it could cause those unprepared for it to startle and injure themselves. There might be some residual ringing of the ears or light spots after the spell fades away depending on the player.

Aquitania had managed to get up the tree when an unfamiliar adult male voice called out for her to cover her eyes and ears. Squeezing her eyes shut and huddling against the trunk of the tree, she slapped her hands over her ears.

Incandescent light blossomed beyond her eyelids, and sound exploded around her. Thunder and lightning? Was it a storm senshi, or a storm knight?

The chibi risked opening her eyes and spotted a figure in green and browns and furs, marked not with the Wheel of Earth, but a stylized 4, dressed and armed like a knight, instead of a senshi. According to the book of astrology she'd started reading at the library, wasn't that the symbol for Jupiter? Well, Jupiter was a thunder god, so was the senshi a thunder senshi? Did that make Jupiter's knights storm knights?

"I'm ok, I just couldn't safely hit it," she called down to the knight below her. "I might be able to help a little bit, if you want it," she admitted before lifting a hand.

"Aquitania Courage Boost!" she called out, expecting her magic to lodge itself in the knight's heart.

Her magic lodging itself in the owl's heart was not according to plan.

An owl's infuriated hooting was the only warning before the Kentucky Fried Youma found its eyes being targeted by an owl swooping down on it.

The youma screeched in pain and confusion, whipping around its now aggressively sightless face bleeding glistening oil...which its feathers lit...causing the whole youma to light on fire. The youma screeched again, before fleeing into the darkness, burning and smelling of nothing so much as burnt turkey dinner, pursued by the still aggravated owl.

Aquitania stared as it flapped away. "Ummm. That...didn't go off as intended. Ummm. Hi. I'm Chibi Sailor Aquitania, Senshi of Courage. Who are you?" she asked sheepishly.

Quote:
Aquitania Courage Boost -- Aquitania pumps her fist in the air clutching a small ball of light and calls out this attack, and allies within a 5' radius feel a small boost of courage. The effects last for about 25 seconds. It will mostly counteract the effects of first stage emotional attacks, will only partially counteract the effects of second stage emotional attacks, and will not counteract the effects of third stage emotional attacks. The ball of light cannot be used for attack. It can be used three times per day.

Before Tortuga really got a chance to do more than blink the majority of the light away, there was still that stubborn little ball of light haunting his vision, and become acclimated to the dim world of the park at night once more the chibi did something. She must have used her magic because an owl came flying out of the tree and attacked the turkey, which then ended up running into the dark park while screeching, and burning, being chased by the irate owl.

Biting off a curse the knight quickly helped the chibi down from the tree, “I’m Tortuga of Jupiter.” He introduced himself before gesturing in the direction the turkey had been chased, “Come on, we need to make sure that a flaming turkey doesn’t start a fire anywhere.” Honestly that was a big reason but there was also the concern that the youma would attack a civilian, and it wasn’t ethical to let a fatality injured animal stagger away like that… or at least he hoped it was fatality injured because he really didn’t want to fight a creature on fire since his magic didn’t do more than irritate or temporarily inconvenience.

Luckily by the time both order fighters caught up with the creature it was already dead, they passed a few trees just in time to see the youma turn to dust. Tortuga eyed the burnt grass, breathing a sigh of relief that no other fire had been started, a sigh that quickly changed to annoyance as a particular and familiar sound started to echo in the night. They were about to have company. “We have to go, someone called the cops.” If they called for the ‘lightning strike’ they were about to have not only cops but firefighters swarming the park in a very short time. The sooner they headed out, the better. “Lets go,” Once again he urged the chibi into a jog, this time towards the other side of the park, away from the rapidly approaching sirens.

Aquitania took the knight's hands as he helped her down. "Nice to meet you, Tortuga," she said as they sprinted after the youma, with the chibi working a bit harder to just keep up. Chibis seemed to come with a lot more speed than strength, mercifully.

Fortunately, they caught sight of the turkey again as it burned itself into ashes. A single ember seemed to float free, dancing merrily on the breeze, refusing to die out, as though it were riding a non-existent thermal gently carrying it closer to the chibi senshi. She reached out to catch it, but it floated free, seeming to want to lurk in her voluminous tresses, which it oddly did not set on fire. Weird. Very weird.

Unfortunately, they didn't have time to sit and ponder the magic of the evening, as she heard the wail of sirens. "That...does not sound good," she said, hurrying after the knight. The last thing they needed right now was police and an arrest. What would she tell her family? Khaz would get it, so would Keesh, but neither of them qualified as a parent or legal guardian, and they would still come with an open question of what the heck she was doing on a patrol on her own without adult supervision.

Anything else she wanted to discuss with Tortuga would have to wait until they were far enough away from the scorched earth and pile of ashes that were the remains of the youma.

A raindrop fell on her, followed quickly by another, and then by a downpour.

Correction, the scorched earth, and sad and soggy pile of ashes that were the mortal remains of the youma. Along with the smell of a turkey dinner roasted to a charcoal briquette. Which would hopefully hide any smell of oil coming from the flesh it used to have.

Whatever she had expected tonight, what had actually happened had not been on her bingo card.
