Thaddeus and Elias had told him that he should try to find some peace and joy during his time on this planet. They thought him too reckless, too eager to face an enemy that he still didn’t understand. No one was even forcing him to power up here. He didn’t have to be Lovas when it didn’t suit him. They meant well, he knew. But why were they so insistent on disassembling his entire being? He wasn’t going to not be Lovas, and his ‘peace and joy’ stemmed purely from eradicating the putrid filth of Chaos from a world that deserved better.

So he would power up at Every Single Opportunity- he was still accustomed to being only Lovas. Not having a Senshi’s power about him left him feeling uncommonly meager (as he was forced to do while staying with them- something about a powered aura ‘attracting the Negaverse’ they should be attracted; he didn’t care if they found him. A thought for another time).

This night was no different.

Lovas found himself wandering the more populated areas he could find, parks or plazas strung with lights and decorations, where people tread at all times of day and night. And where there were people, there would be Chaos to hunt them.

Tonight he felt very little by way of their oppressive aura. Too quiet or too cold or whatever other reasons the Negaverse had to keep away. Instead, he felt another Senshi, and when he saw her, he had a weird sence of it being Not the First Time. Not a strange sensation since his coming to Earth. His memory was patchy of even recent events on the best of days, but he was sure he’d seen this girl… somewhere…

“Oh~” He was close enough now that she surely heard him, tone low and booming vibrantly. “I do recognize you. You were on that other Senshi’s world! To get rid of the Chaos. I think I heard you wailing.” Lovas definitely wouldn’t be able to recognize everyone who’d been there, but she’d been only a few yards away. And Not Quiet. Her fuku had stood out well enough then, and it stood out well enough now.

“That was already a whole moon cycle ago. How time flies! Are you feeling better now?”

"I was not wailing," she said, miffed and aware that she was lying. She had, in fact, been wailing. "I was bitching and I think that was fair. I died. But I am clearly better, since I'm not still dead."

This was not the best introduction she could have asked for - her first time venturing out as Alekto alone, without that damned cat in tow, trying to feel out what it was to be another person and hopefully not dying on the way. This was, apparently, how she was meant to make herself stronger, to avoid that whole dying thing as much as possible.

She gave him a look over the veil that made it appear, in the darkness, as though her mouth was set into a permanent scream. He had recognized her readily, but she, in truth, only vaguely recognized him. But she'd learned a lot, and if Fish b***h had been a rude introduction, it had at least been a thorough one. He must have been one of those from somewhere else even more than people like herself were from somewhere else.

She considered, briefly, that it must be very difficult to start life over fresh so far away from everything you'd ever known, bereft of everything that had made a place your home. She should be kind - her natural inclination was at least to be cheerful and welcoming.

But, well. He started it. Wailing, really?

"Are you some kinda fish too?"

"Oh. I must have been mistaken, then. Forgive me. The intricacies of the language are still a little new to me; I thought I labeled the tone correctly." He smiled as he studied her curiously. Lovas didn't mind being wrong, and could even admit when such was the case. ...However. 'Dying' seemed a bit of an exaggeration? And he wondered if this girl was perhaps prone to dramatics. But then, most humans were. A soft laugh rolled out of him. "'Bitching,' you call it? That means something different where I'm from."

Most things were different than where he was from, but Lovas was fortunate to be a quick study, and regardless of his overall shoddy memory, he knew he had been on many other worlds before and always adapted fine. He was good at that. Adapting.

His head canted, still smiling, though clearly pondering. She sounded almost... annoyed with him? Had he done something? He didn't know why, but he expected most humans to be of a chipper disposition. Literally no idea why, since that hadn't been the case for his people or any other he'd crossed. But they had such a lively planet! What was there to be so offended about? "I had never seen anything like that girl's planet before. So much water! My planet barely has any- no lakes or pools or even puddles." Lovas glanced down at himself, as if studying his overwhelmingly human body. The differences between him and them were minimal. No fins like Dagon. "And I can't swim, so I don't think I'm a fish."

"I like to think I'm more of an azowl- Do you have those here? They are kind of big and fuzzy. With long necks and wings that don't quite carry them. Oh! And teeth like this-" He said as he jabbed a finger to the tip of one of his fangs.

She paused, a little baffled, and self-awareness caught up to her - as it often does - alongside a twinge of guilt.

He might be making fun of her - the suspicion lingered, and always did - but she attempted to believe otherwise. The result was a not-entirely-homogenous mixture of skepticism and kindness in her voice, which did her no favors.

"No," she said warily. "We don't have those. Or at least, I can't think of anything that fits the description." She hesitated. "Where are you from, exactly? Have you been here long? Well, no, I guess not," she immediately answered herself as to the last one. "Did you get thrown headfirst into all this too? I mean - fresh hatch and then right into that mess?"

"Hm. I didn't really expect so, I suppose. Most of the creatures I've seen here have been unfamiliar to me." A pause as his brows furrowed and Lovas considered the limited amount of things he'd seen. "...And very small. Why is everything so small? On my world- Lovas, that's my name too- everything was very big and scary. As much as I remember of it, anyway."

Prone to not quite catching the varied tones of human speech, Lovas recognized little by way of the skepticism in the girl's tone. He was all smiles and bright eyes, himself, still of the expectation that another Senshi would mean him no ill and would have little reason to deceive him. Provided they hadn't been tainted with Chaos, and he didn't think this one was! Though he did get the impression that she was not impressed with her situation. 'Thrown into that mess-' The Chaos on Dagon?

"I have resided on this planet for a full cycle of the moon, and a little extra. That planet was my first time seeing so many Senshi together, ever. But it is far from the first Chaos I've faced. I- Hm... Well, I don't have a strong memory of 'freshly hatching;' it's been many centuries since I became awakened to this power, you see. But I don't think it was a traumatic event?"

He didn't think he'd recall even if it was, but maybe that wasn't relevant information.

A long, thoughtful note hummed from his throat. He didn't have a complete understanding of how Senshi came to be awakened on Earth instead of their own planet. The only Earthan Senshi he'd spoken to at length was Teyla, and she was very young, and her parents had cautioned him that her recount of events was... questionable. But she enjoyed it! He wasn't convinced that this one did. "So... you don't find it invigorating, then?" He asked. "It was dangerous, I suppose, but a bit of a mess is exciting, isn't it? Much better than eking out a meager survival in the midst of a desolate wasteland for a thousand years."

This last statement took her somewhat aback. True, her own thoughts for the last month had been revolving around the axis of a similar question - magical danger and excitement opposed to banal safety - but the further backdrop made her hesitate in silence for a long few seconds as she considered a dreary march of lonely centuries as well as someone like herself could.

It occurred to her, not for the first time, that being a Final Girl - even a Final Girl in the shape of a slab of masculine beef - was probably less enjoyable when the finality was that total. Who could you even brag about it to, at that point?

Well, she guessed, he could brag to her. But he didn't seem to be.

"I guess," she said slowly, after a moment, "that it's - I mean, it's cool, right? But I thought there'd be like... a big long training montage before I got thrown into dying. But I didn't think a training montage could be a thousand years long." She was seized with a moment of what she might have termed existential crisis if she'd thought about it and had a better and more ready vocabulary. All those endless lonely years sent a shiver through her. It was unreasonable to be unfriendly and snippy over a few hours of misery when this guy - even if it was because he'd gone a little cracked in the head, which she supposed was reasonable - was holding it together.

"You must be really glad to be here," she said suddenly. And then, with a friendly impulse born out of a kind of terrified pity: "You should go to a zoo here - like a big place they keep a bunch of animals in for you to learn about, do you have those where you're from? We have some big creatures too, just not here."

"I could be wrong, as I am not familiar with what the group expects of each other, but I thiiiiink... I think going to that world was optional?" Lovas invited teasingly, the upward quirk of his lips having just the softest edge of amusement to them to offset the typical smile. "So you could theoretically have had as much or as little of a training montage as you like, before you accepted such invitations..."

But it was still Very Brave and very Aligned With Their Purpose to use these abilities to go and defend another world from the plague of the universe. And although Lovas couldn't recall his own very first introduction to Chaos, he was sure he had dealt with it alone. Alone in the sense that no one else would've had anything besides their own standard physical strength to help him, no alter ego, no magic- but he was pretty sure they would've tried when the Chaos was first discovered. Pretty sure. Desperately sure that his people would've wanted to help him.

"It might have been better this way, though?" He added thoughtfully, after a moment of consideration. "Earth's Chaos... What you would face here, it inhabits people who think and can decide how to best progress... What is on my world, and Dagon's, I assume, it only consumes. It doesn't think or feel or act unpredictably because it can only do one thing... Maybe it is better to face that than to do the 'training' on Earth?"

"Oh, and the dying. You were resurrected. So it is nice to have such a large group with varied abilities, as well." She was alive! And that was worth a celebration.

He flit to the less severe matter of his reception of the planet, which was admittedly different than what he was accustomed to, but how could he complain about 'different,' given what was normal? "I do find it enjoyable here!" Lovas agreed.

"There are so many things to see! Experiences to have! More than could be done in an entire lifetime. My world was... underdeveloped compared to this one- Chaos had nothing to do with that, so it can be- hm- jarring, to comprehend it all. On my world animals were only for sustenance. We didn't keep hardly any at all." Definitely not to learn about them, of all things. "But it sounds enjoyable! To be able to view yours so freely. Oh! I should put it on my list," he decided, taking out a little tab of paper, equipped with a small purple colored pencil. He scribbled- definitely not a word, but more a quick (and surprisingly adept sketch) of what looked like... a pack of squirrels?

He'd only seen a handful of animals here, okay.

Still not entirely certain that she was not being quietly made fun of, she continued in her uncertain and somewhat forced overtures of kindness.

"Oh. Um. Yeah, it's fun - if you go early enough in the morning they'll let you feed the flamingos. They're like - big pink birds? Live in the water and stand on one leg?" She demonstrated helpfully the general posture of a flamingo, complete with holding out her arms to mimic wings.

She did not ask how he would acquire money and therefore get admission. As near as she could tell, there were secret networks for that sort of thing and for these sorts of people. It was better not to worry too much about problems beyond the scope of her control.

Like world-consuming Chaos, for example. Well, better not to worry too much more than she had to.

"You might like an art museum, too, if you like to draw," she added, resuming a more human posture and giving his little notepad a glance. "I wouldn't know much about that, though. Sort of - outside my interest zone. You know."

She felt uncomfortably awkward, feeling around for something to say that would not lead to another existential crisis or an opening for him to discreetly make fun of her, if he was.

"And. Uh. Welcome to Earth," she said, somewhat stupidly. "I enjoy it here too, even the shittier parts."

More scribbling on his pad: a very fat, round bird standing on one single, human leg. "Is there some benefit to sharing your resources with the... the flamingos? Do they bring you better resources? Or is this a 'fattening them for consumption later' situation?" Which was not a tactic anyone on his world had employed, but he'd heard it was commonplace here. That was where all the meats in the grocery store came from, where just anyone could go and get them and not have to hunt for them.

"Hm..." Lovas squinted at his pad and then back to the girl. "I am not sure I like to," he admitted. But there were only so many activities that could be engaged in with limited resources. Fewer still that he had any skill with. And even fewer yet that he derived any pleasure from.

But doing something was better than doing nothing.

And it was useful enough to be able to remind himself of things, when written words were still a little out of his grasp.

But his was smiling again quickly. "Thank you for the welcome! I will try not to overstay it. Do you want to tell me about the parts that are 'shitty?' I have found this planet's Chaos to be extra abhorrent, and also some of the alleys have this... odor that is a huge deterrent. And your Sun. It is oppressive. But it is a very advanced world, I think! More than any other I have been to- Oh, yours. Your planet. That you are the Senshi of. What is it like?"

She was rescued from attempting to explain even to herself what the purpose of feeding a flamingo was, since "it's fun" somehow rang strangely shallow to her own ears in the face of this earnest questioning.

She was rescued, however, only to be thrust into a situation where she was, again, feeling quite a bit like an a**.

"Oh. Uh - I'm... Not sure, actually." She knew, vaguely, that there was a planet that shared her new name. But the thought was so vast and terrifying that she had turned away from it without looking at it too hard. "Probably pretty noisy, I imagine," she added vaguely, backtracking away from another rising existential crisis and onto a topic on which she had surer footing. "And as far as the shitty parts go - like, yeah. The smell is a big one. Lots of s**t smells. You'll smell a lot of s**t at the zoo too but it's sort of just the price you pay for being around a bunch of animals. But also, like. Oh my god. Were you here for Halloween? I got like sucked into this alternate boardgame dimension or something and it was the pits. Don't touch shiny things," she added, with dire warning. "It never goes well."

"Ah. I see," Lovas replied, giving a slow, thoughtful nod.

In all actuality, he did not 'see.' Earth Senshi had been explained to him: born here to another planet that they wouldn't even know existed until... some arbitrary amount of years later. He didn't completely understand how that worked, didn't know what would compel a human to seek out a far away land that was for all intents and purposes already dead. It was perhaps not so surprising that this girl didn't know much about her world. How could she possibly!

Lovas was, however, very happy to continue to talk of Earth. Very strange, very new, very interesting! "But there are very good smells, too. I walked by a bread store- did you know you have to pay to eat the smells? And you cannot simply challenge the cook for dominion over their wares. I think that is Very s**t."

Again, he was a little lost about what she was talking about... Boardgame... Dimension... But he had heard the word Halloween. "Yes, I've heard of it! ...Just missed it, I'm afraid. Regal- that is the Knight who found me- said that I probably landed on Earth Halloween night and then slept on until the next day, when he and his husband came upon me. So I didn't get to see most of the activity. Just the cleanup. Which is much less exciting." His laugh was a little choked, but still bright. "And I like shiny things too much to avoid them, I think! If it brings me to another dimension, I will just take that one too."

"Dude," she said, with a fellow-feeling that nearly overcame her paranoia. "I have definitely smelled some muffins walking around downtown that I would totally fight someone for if they'd let me. It is absolutely very s**t, especially the markup they put on those things in some of the neighborhoods down there. I bought a cookie the other day and it was, like -"

She hesitated. This guy seemed new enough that maybe currency was going to be over his head. She changed tracks, therefore: "- like four times more than I was expecting to pay."

She eyed him a little sideways above the veil. "Be careful picking up shiny things anyway," she advised. "Because you might end up in a fight by accident where you'd rather make a friend."

This felt almost wise, and she paused a moment to reflect on it with satisfaction.

"I hope you're around still for next Halloween," she said, not quite sure how the whole alien thing worked and not realizing that she had essentially just told a stranger that he hoped he didn't die within the year. "It's the best time of year on Earth." Another brief pause. "Did you - can I do anything for you?" she asked, feeling somewhat timid to do it. "You know. As a Welcome Wagon type deal even if your friend got to it first."
