Quote:
Biting Chill ( 18 ) : The cold is strangely harsh, and even the still wind is vicious enough to sting. But the cold isn't the worst part of tonight--it's what comes with it. Out of a swirl of blowing snow, a massive, wispy wolf takes shape, enormous and snarling, with fur spiked like jagged icicles. Its eyes glow with a cold, wild intelligence, and before you can even react, it lunges as though you’ve trespassed deep into its territory. Every strike it makes feels like the bite of winter itself. Wherever its claws slash, wherever its jaws snap, frost cakes over. Even if you're lucky enough not to take massive damage, the cold seeps bone deep. When you manage to land a hit, the creature bleeds a strange, clear blood--icy water that freezes instantly into slush on the ground. The more damage it takes, the more its form flickers, shredded like wind-torn snow. The wolf fights with the relentless instinct of a dire beast, but it is not invulnerable. It will never run. It will fight until its body is broken and flickering, then--finally--a sudden gust will rip through the air and carry its dissolving body away. Howls echo on the wind. The rest of its pack probably isn't too far behind.

Londonite knew the city was dangerous, knew it was especially dangerous this time of year, but he'd still powered up and gone out. Why would he not? He had power, though not a lot, so he could handle some of the trouble in this city. He wasn't as powerful as his general, the one who had brought him into things, but he still had some boost in strength and that was all he needed right now. It was enough, it had to be. He couldn't allow his lack of power, or all the magic chaos, to keep him from powering up and going out.

Londonite just needed to know more, to know what was going on this year, so long as he had a clue what was going on he could be as prepared as possible. He knew his spouse wouldn't see things the same way, wouldn't like it, though he was also sure they'd approve of him wanting to think things thru and not just run into things - not just want to go out without knowing what was going on.

He knew he wasn't likely to gather much energy, who would be out tonight in the cold, but he wanted to at least make a try of it. Bundled up, for warmth, the lieutenant was wandering through the park planning on grabbing from people he crossed paths with. Just enough energy to get them to wander off home, to sleep, for their own good. Pulling his hood up, glad for the fur trim, as the wind kicked up he huddled close as he passed an empty bench. He saw something further up, also he felt something prickling at his senses, but something was up ahead and something told him he should keep an eye on it. It looked like a huge flurry of snow.

A ginger-haired lieutenant also happened to be out that evening and bundled up in a coat over her Negaverse agent attire. Forsterite did not enjoy going out into the cold much herself, unless it was to take care of her precious plants, but she had a quota to meet as a lieutenant and she was nothing if not diligent. Unfortunately, as she soon discovered, the path she travelled soon ended up crossing the with path of another lieutenant who was no doubt collecting energy to meet his own quota. Forsterite was about to turn away to find somewhere else to collect energy - perhaps somewhere warmer and indoors - when she noticed the other agent staring at something in the distance.

It wasn't so distant that she couldn't tell what had caught his attention, however. There was a very large flurry of snow that seemed to come out of nowhere and caused her to pull her coat tighter around her. As she squinted through her glasses, trying to peer further into the snow, she thought she could make out a large, furry shape. It was the same color as the snow, so it was difficult to differentiate from it, but it had spikey fur that stood like icicles. At first she had thought it was some sort of sculpture, but then she saw it move. It was coming closer to them.

Her second thought as to what it could have been was a youma, but she didn't know any lieutenants that were powerful enough to command their own youma, so it couldn't have belonged to the young man nearby. Furthermore, it didn't feel like a youma. It didn't have the energy signature of one. But it was far too monstrous in size to be an ordinary creature that could have been found in the middle of a city park. Destiny City was special, though. So Forsterite decided to hope against hope the thing, as it got nearer and easier to see the shape of, was just a very, very large, white dog of some sort.

"That...that creature isn't yours, is it?" she asked tentatively, coming to stand alongside the other lieutenant as she watched the snowy canine approach them. Its teeth were pulled back in a snarl and it sounded very angry.

He could see the other lieutentant coming closer, perhaps too close, he could also see what looked like some four legged creature headed his way - their way. That officer was too close if this thing was going to come for him, they'd get caught in the middle, and he went to raise a hand. "Don't come closer! That things headed this way." And maybe it would be best if they kept separate, keep it between them even, as he watched as it continued its stalking, predatory, walk towards them. It was picking up speed, or at least it seemed as much, the wind and the kicked up snow made it hard to tell for certain.

"Got a useful weapon?" He questioned aloud, though he figured he knew the answer already. Captains got weapons, generals had weapons, they likely had nothing - the same as himself. This was going to turn into a fight using fists if this thing attacked....which it seemed inclined to do. It was indeed picking up it's pace, it was so close now - too close.

"s**t!" He'd have some injuries, he knew it, that he'd need to explain to his husband. "This thing...I wish it was a youma." Because it wasn't. If it was he could call for his general to come and deal with it, because he could order them around, but this...this he wouldn't call him for unless he had no choice. This was a fight and he wasn't going to just pull someone else into it if he didn't have to, because he shouldn't pull someone else into his buisness.

Bracing himself, the item he carried as a weapon, in his hand and at the ready. This was sad and pathetic....

Forsterite froze when she was told not to come closer and she flinched when she was asked if she had a useful weapon - what lieutenant did, after all? - but then she glanced down thoughtfully at the parachute harness she wore.

Maybe...if she played her cards right...she could take off the harness and use it as something like a muzzle to place over the great white wolf's head and keep it from snapping or biting at them, at least.

Coming up with an idea to go along with her quickly-forming plan, Forsterite shed her jacket and quickly began to climb the nearest tree, making sure it had branches hanging over the place the wolf would be in a few minutes. Once she had climbed up the tree and sat on a strong branch, she removed her harness from her chest and torso.

Then, poising herself to jump down onto the wolf when the time was right, she waited for the creature to get right under her before dropping from the branch and onto its back, leaning forward immediately to place the harness over its head and jaws. Then she quickly tightened the straps, secured the buckles, and hung on for dear life. The wolf, outraged at having been muzzle, began to thrash about wildly.

"Throw something at it!" the ginger called to the other lieutenant as she hung on to the bucking, snarling wolf like a cowgirl at a rodeo. "A rock, a branch - anything! We need to weaken it!"

Watching as the other moved, gathering something from their person, Londonite couldn't help but smile as he caught on to what she was planning. Oh, what a good idea. She was going to use her uniform for a weapon, seeing as neither of them actually had weapons, it was the next best thing and he watched as the wolf came right at him. Before it could snap at him, and sink it's teeth into him, the red haired lieutenant was on top of it and making sure it couldn't see or move properly. It was flailing and thrashing wildly but it couldn't bite.

Without thought to anything else he took the sharpened chop stick, hair pin, he had for a weapon and dove at the wolf stabbing at whatever part of it he could get to without her clothign being in the way. There was no way it would go through her clothing and penetrate into the beast under her. But he did sink the weapon into whatever bit of it's body he could. He wasn't typically violent, it wasn't in his nature, but he was one who acted first and thought about things later. He would rather stab the hell out of this thing now and deal with whatever drove him to such violence later, much later, when he was home in bed with his spouse.

Really, it was just the want and need to survive and to make sure it didn't break free. But he'd figure that later, when he wasn't busy trying to kill it...and getting wet with slush that seemed to be replacing blood here. At least no blood stains needed to be washed out of his clothing.
