Quote:
Hello to all of you! Sailor Kerberos is seeking assistance with a task on his homeworld: nothing dangerous, but I’ve got a whole herd of sheep that need shearing and I am but one man. Tools, snacks, and adorable creatures provided. Come get some cool space wool!

Kerberos had sent out the message with the hopes that it would reach enough people, and that his world would cooperate about bringing them to him. It usually did; even if this wasn’t dire danger, sometimes he thought his planet wanted to host guests.

His memories always painted it as livelier, anyway. And his memories of the festive atmosphere around sheep shearing in the past especially so.

He’d herded the sheep into a fenced off area that he was pretty sure had actually been a pasture once, set up tables with electric shears, food, and drinks, and generally made a lot of space for people to do the work. He'd even hung up string lights to illuminate the area; the sheep themselves were bioluminescent, sure, but no reason to not have extra light. Plus, it really did fit the vibe.

Probably the hardest part had been corralling all the sheep to wash them, but they were wild and clean wool was important.

Kerberos sat at the table of food, with a pair of old-looking texts next to him and a stack of notes beside them. After he’d finished the setup, he’d started working on some comparative work between a pair of documents that he was pretty sure were two versions of the same thing—one in the high, formal language he could read and one in the more common tongue that he couldn’t quite make sense of yet. This time, it was a legal announcement, a report of some judgement from the court that had been recorded in the older tongue and then published in the common one.

It was a struggle. There were a lot of notes, and it wasn’t like he had anyone to guide him. But as people started to arrive, he set his notes aside, smiled, and stepped around the table, opening his arms in greeting.

“Hello, friends old and new! Welcome to Kerberos. I’ve run into a very fun little problem that I’m hoping you’ll all be willing to help with—namely, I have sheep now. They are very friendly.” As if to illustrate his point, one of them trotted over and bonked its head against his thigh, and he reached down to pat it, which elicited a pleased, slightly melodic “baa.” “There are, you might note, more of them than there are of me, and Kerberos is a pretty warm planet, so I imagine they'd appreciate losing some of this fluff.” He patted the glowing wool of the sheep next to him, a pretty pink color. “From everything I’ve researched, it’s pretty straightforward; if you’ve ever shaved hair, it’s the same principle. Just be gentle and you’ll have plenty of success.”

He scratched behind the sheep’s ear, eliciting another pleased little baa.

“You’re welcome to keep the wool you shear; if you happen to be a person with the skills to make wool into yarn, or yarn into cute knitted items, please write down your info on the cards over here,” he gestured to a small table with cards and pens, “so people can find you if they want to let you process their stuff. Holler if you have any questions, I’ll be right here.”

He winked, briefly.

“And if you don’t feel like helping, you’re welcome to enjoy the snacks and commentate. I’m just glad to have people; this sort of thing was a big event on Kerberos in the past, and I like it when my planet has more people on it. Makes the whole place feel more lively.”

Welcome to the Kerberan Sheep-Shearing Festival!

Your character has received an invitation to come help Kerberos with a fun little farm chore. You get snacks, conversation, and glow in the dark wool out of it; Kerberos gets happy, sheared sheep and a chance to share his world with other people.

This thread will be open until April 26th at midnight EST, at which point I’ll post a little closing speech from Kerberos; you’ll be welcome to continue chatting after that if you need wordcount or whatnot, but that will be the official close.

This is a very chill situation; there will be no further prompts, but please feel welcome to wave Kerberos over so he can come and chat, just quote me and the boy will appear!

Please note that Kerberan sheep’s wool is glow-in-the-dark specifically; it comes from animals on a planet that is eternally night! Glow-in-the-dark yarn exists on Earth, so characters can simply say they’ve used that if questioned about any particularly glowy scarves or whatnot.

As described in the Cosmic Almanac, Kerberan Sheep are fluffy, black-faced sheep with bioluminescent wool in a variety of colors. Many are quite vibrant, and their wool creates very soft yarn when spun that retains the glowing quality, making for unique results!

The area is a pasture, set away from any major buildings, though a ways away an elegantly built barnlike structure with art nouveau architectural flairs is visible. The pasture is lit with fairy lights, wrapped around the fences and strung overhead on poles. As Kerberos is a planet of eternal night, artificial light is necessary!

The food table is well stocked with little sandwiches of both the meat and vegetarian varieties and a number of pastries, as well as several iced teas and lemonades (varying flavors) and an iced coffee with accompanying oat and almond milks as well as traditional half and half, 2%, and skim. Everything is labeled for allergens. There are plates and utensils available, and characters should feel free to snack to their hearts’ content.

The card table contains a stack of cards for characters to volunteer their information if people want to get help getting their wool spun into thread or knitted, crocheted, etc into cute things. Characters should ICly fill this out; players should OOCly include the form below in their posts if their character is volunteering!

If you wish, you may roll a six-sided die to see how your character does at sheep shearing! This is optional and fully for fun. Some prompts are provided, generally, but feel free to interpret as you like!

Quote:
1-2: your character is having a rough day. If they’re experienced, maybe the sheep are just uncooperative or they’re having a hard time in the new setup. If they’re inexperienced, they might just be struggling with a new skill!

3-4: Your character does just fine. Regardless of experience level, they’re having a pretty good sheep-wrangling day.

5-6: Your character did exceptionally well! If they’re inexperienced, perhaps they’re just a natural or have particularly cooperative sheep. If they’re experienced, that experience is definitely carrying them.

Transcendent Eternal Ida
Action: Arriving, getting a look around, greeting Kerberos

Somehow, between one thing and another, they had just never... managed to meet up with time to visit Kerberos' world. Which was, truly, a great tragedy. Considering how often she'd brought him to her own world, they were far over due for him to get to return the favor.

Arriving to softly glowing darkness was a stark contrast to the warm sunshine she so often found when she visited Ida. Ida had night, of course, but not like this... soft and velvety, shot through with the softly lights strung up around the pasture and the glow of the sheep as they grazed placidly.

Standing there, Ida drew a deep breath and let it out in a sigh, soaking in the newness of the place, the sense of being somewhere else, being off Earth... and while it did not compare with the comfort of her own world, it had its own appeal.

Glancing about, she caught sight of the blue haired man as he rose to greet visitors and Ida felt a smile blossom across her face as she headed for him.

Super Sailor Ymir

Ymir didn’t get out much, especially when the weather started to warm in Destiny City. He hid away in the renovated carriage house the Gallos let him stay in and spent his time doing nothing of substance. Sometimes he slept when nightmares left him alone. Sometimes he ate when he had enough of an appetite to bother. Sometimes he learned Earth letters or watched the strange moving pictures on the device they called a television. If he crept out of hiding it was because Surtur encouraged him to.

Surtur didn’t accompany him this time. Instead, Ymir arrived with Enceladus and the loud, jovial man Enceladus had been living with during his time on Earth. Ymir did his best to mask his unease, his expression frozen into something he hoped looked like neutrality.

Never much of a conversationalist, Ymir skipped the greetings—and the food and beverages, where he expected people to linger—and went straight for the sheep.

Bilskirnir, Squire of Jupiter

“These guys are cute,” Bilskirnir said, eyeing the many colorful sheep with obvious enthusiasm.

He trailed after Ymir and Enceladus. With a busy competitive schedule, Bilskirnir didn’t usually get the chance to partake in much space tourism, but where Ymir went Enceladus tended to follow. Which probably also had an effect on the number of places Bilskirnir actually got to see, because Ymir rarely went anywhere. What changed his mind this time, Bilskirnir had no real clue, but he figured there wasn’t any harm in tagging along. Shearing sheep was pretty low stakes.

Unlike Ymir, who seemed to avoid socializing as much as he could, and Enceladus, who could be quite cranky even at the best of times, Bilskirnir offered a cheerful greeting to their host.

“Hi. Bilskirnir. Jupiter, obviously. I think you know Val. He’s a buddy of mine. Nice to meet you,” he introduced himself. “I don’t actually know how much help these two are gonna be,” he added with a jerk of his thumb toward Ymir and Enceladus. “I think they only came to cuddle something fluffy, but I’ve done some shearing before. First time with space sheep, though.”

Commander Vyn

“Hello,” Vyn said—not to their blue haired host or any of the Senshi and Knights in attendance, but to the sheep.

He hadn’t planned on coming. The invitation probably hadn’t even been meant to make its way to him, seeing as he usually didn’t do much fraternizing outside the Vanguard. Relations between the Vanguard and those they had betrayed (unintentionally, in the case of Vyn and the rest of those who’d been Cadets upon their arrival on Earth) had not always been friendly, but their host tonight, Kerberos, had come to their aid last year during the fight against the Calamitous Hollow. He’d even called Lyndin by name.

Vyn did his best not to be too resentful about that.

In the end, he couldn’t quell his own curiosity. There weren’t many worlds capable of sustaining life. He should explore what he could of them. Maybe his findings would offer some insight on how to replicate these circumstances elsewhere. (Maybe Lyndin would also be pleased with him.)

“You are very lovely,” Vyn said, crouching in front of a sheep with glowing turquoise wool. “I would like some of your wool to make a gift for the Commodore, if you are agreeable. It would match his eyes.”

Vyn himself probably looked quite strange, wandering around in clothes one might see at a gym instead of his uniform.

La Brea

La Brea was working on his thoughts when he got the message? Invitation? It honestly didn't cloick in his mind.

He got 'homeworld' and 'animals' clocked in his mind and despite his mind noting to him he was visiting a lot of space lately, he wasn't goiung to pass up an opportunity to see alioen sheep. He was 44 - a Millenial - not at all immune to being a complete and totqal dork now an d then.//// Like today. He needed the break from stewing in his own mind and the normally serious, fatherly page arrived not with his usual stiff, seruious exp[ression but a notepad and the goofiest, most excited grin on his face possible. And besides, maybe he'd get his paws on some woll and being it home to the boys. They'd like that, right? Or maybe... Something. He supposed Limosa might5 turn a bit of wool into something the boys might likew. But he also hjad tyo know.

What were alien sheep[ like?!

...La Brea was positibvely... Vibrating, really, immediately ap[proaching the poen and taking note, eyes dancing in his overexcited deliught.

Gagartrin had... Never been in space before. It took him a few minutes to work out just how this 'space' thing worked and a phone call to Oumuamua insisting he had to go and what did she mean she and Susanoo weren't coming to make it, but the senshi arrived finally, It wouldn't be on him if he got to do something fun and they didn't.

OK, fuyn for him. Gagarin, however, quite liked this kind of thing. Not as a direct hobby, but since he was running a high fashion boputique, learning where material came from wqas important to him, even alien material. There had to be some kind of analogy to Earth. As the senshi of squalls arrived, his hips switched to and fro as he stepped into the area with his usual wortjkplace authority, but he wasn't rude either as he poaused, assessing thre gathering crowd.

...He didn 't know anybody here. That actually made him ancious. Susanoo and Oumuamua werte easy. They were senshi he met whewn he awakened last summer. This was.... Not his idea of comfortable..

Gagarin had to take a slow, deep breath, shakliong. His imposter syndrome was flaring up and he could feel it. Slowly he tried to look every inch like it was nothing that he was there. Thjey were fortuinate even!....

Except Gagarin was sweating buckets and a sheepo's cry maDe him jump a moment as he watched the sheep staring at him and he straightened,c sashaying over to the pen before looking around, then bending over the fence and....

Gods help him, Gagarin cooed.,

"Oh and look at you little baby. Awwww. Poor thing, all that wool must be so hot on you isn't it? Yes it is, oph yes it is..." Gagarin opened his pocket dimension, fetching some carding tools as he tried to shear the poor sheepo.

"Let me help..."

While he'd never sheared a sheep himself, as Flint, Gagarin had been to see wool sheared before. Very carefully, the senshi made it to begin shearing the animal with astonishing care and gentleness for a man radiating well, a lot of aggressive, wary energy. No, Gagarin was careful and slowly shheared every scrap before sirrinf ro vwgin carding what he gathered. Wool needed carded to be spun after all , or otherwise used, and well... Carding hrelped if he needed top do it and carding he did do before, the Squall Senshi sitting primly on the fence, hands beginning to expertly card the wool. Maybe if he sheared enough he'd get enough wool for a sweater, he supposed. A nice comfy winter sweater. One of a kind, of course. Becauise how bloody dare Susdanoo aNd Ouamuamua abandon him.,

Local Idiot - I mean Gagarin is also open to interqaction and williong to help card the wool for people wanting yarn ETC.[/qupte]

Commander Aliez

Aliez was not certain the invitation was meant for him. Or for any of them. Kerberos had helped them before, which made this place safer than most, but Aliez was still wary of the Senshi and Knights gathered there. Many of them believed the Vanguard served the Negaverse. It was not that simple. It had never been that simple.

Still, Kerberos had invited people. And there were sheep.

Aliez stood near Vyn, ComTech in hand, eyes wide as he studied the glowing wool. He had already confirmed that Earth clothing could be made from wool, and that wool came from sheep.

"The clothing is made from this?" he asked softly, glancing from his ComTech to the turquoise sheep. "From the outer covering?"

He crouched beside Vyn, careful and gentle.

"Hello," he greeted the sheep. "You are very beautiful. Your wool is also very beautiful." He paused for a moment, trying to figure out how best to ask.

"We would like some of it, please. If that is acceptable. It will not be wasted."

He glanced over at Vyn. "Do you think it understands requests? Or should we offer it a sandwich?" Was payment necessary, just like so many other exchanges on Earth? But this wasn't Earth. He'd been to Kerberos before, but certainly not to visit the sheep.

Super Sailor Enceladus

Enceladus did not care about sheep.

That was what he told himself as he followed Ymir and Bilskirnir into the pasture, eyeing the glowing herd with suspicion. They were colorful. They were fluffy. They made strange melodic noises.

Fine. They were slightly interesting.

He cared less when Bilskirnir cheerfully introduced himself to their host like this was some grand social event and not a chore involving strange livestock on an unfamiliar world.

"Valhalla knows many people," Enceladus muttered, arms crossed. Apparently it was very easy for Bilskirnir to wander off and speak to pretty young men with blue hair and nice manners.

Not that Enceladus cared.

"I did not come to cuddle anything," he said, loud enough for Bilskirnir to hear. "I came because Ymir came."

He stopped beside his brother as a soft green sheep wandered closer. Enceladus stared at it. The sheep stared back.

Eventually, he touched two fingers to the wool.

"...It is very soft," he admitted.

That was not cuddling. That was a simple observation.

"If Bilskirnir wants to be useful, he can shear it," he scoffed. "Since he has experience and is apparently very comfortable introducing himself to everyone."

He was not jealous. He was just making conversation with his brother.

Voyager, Squire of Pluto

When he had received the message John hadn't been sure that he would even go. Yes, it provided an opportunity to travel to another planet but... he felt as though he didn't deserve to go to one after the lack of activity he had put in being a Squire. Whether it was due to some sort of Knight-anxiety or just plain depression, he hadn't done anything related to Order activity in a while.

It took a few hours of him pondering whether or not he should open it before he did, and felt a sense of relieve that it wasn't something horrible happening. Just wanting some help on their Homeworld, but no mention of chaos or battling.

Well, perhaps that's just what he needed to get back into going out as Voyager.

So, he powered up and answered the message, finding himself with a few others in the area, their patron, and the glow-in -the-dark-wool sheep. He took a moment to look at the tools that were provided for them, and then the sheep, and took a step back, looking around and spotting what seemed to be a Senshi in green and white, walking up to him, leaning in, and whispering, "You don't have any idea how to shear sheep do you?"
