The Lilypads (16) : You can find them in lakes, ponds, reservoirs, and waterways throughout Destiny City. Giant lilypads--some large enough to support the weight of a person--appear overnight. You can try, if you want. It's become a local trend, and pictures are all over social media--of people looking for the largest lilypads, or the smallest ones they can stand on. You'd think the unnatural bubbling around the lilypads would be enough of a sign not to mess with them, but sometimes people need to learn the hard way. Beneath the lilypads lurk strange frog-like creatures that regard nearly everything as prey. The largest of them are roughly the size and shape of a bean bag chair, but they can be as small as a fist. Their broad heads are crowned with lilypads that serve as natural camouflage, allowing them to hide among the floating vegetation until they strike. They move with startling speed and can launch themselves impressive distances with powerful kicks. Long, whip-like tongues lash out to snatch prey, while thick mucus-like saliva can cling to skin, clothing, and even immobilize unfortunate victims. Their skin carries a toxic coating that can cause irritation on contact. The creatures announce themselves with a deep croak that sounds uncannily like a large bell being rung just by your ears. Unfortunately, for anyone that was respecting nature, these strange creatures are aggressive and will also attack without provocation, often attempting to drive even innocent bystanders away from the water's edge. However, if sufficiently threatened, they may retreat into the water. Once submerged, they become impossible to track.

Note: If you choose to encounter one of these frog-like creatures, your character will recognize they are not youma. It is impossible to tell if it is a single entity or if there are many. The creature does not seem to understand or care to listen to human words. All toxic and mucus can be washed away, but effects may persist for a few hours after this encounter. The creature cannot be killed and will always evade lethal blows. While it is rare to find multiple large creatures in the same vicinity, smaller creatures often cluster together, or may be found with a larger one. This RP can be used as a battle requirement as long as there are two powered characters involved; you must be interacting with another player’s powered character. This does not count as the one youma battle per stage for growth. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt.

No.

It would be so easy to just say no and have nothing else to do with this. It was just so unfortunate that Thaddeus didn't really prefer to say no if he had no good reason to do so... Or even if he did have a good reason, denying his spawn something she wanted sure was a Task.

And so he found himself here, standing at the edge of the pond, powered into Regal because as with all strange things, he didn't trust that there were no Chaos shenanigans involved. Teyla had seen videos of kids older than her out playing on the lilypads- her friends were doing it! She claimed, and it wasn't fair if she wouldn't be allowed to. She wanted to have fun too- she was old enough and could protect herself with the magic-!

Anyway, they went over this every time she wanted to do something Thad didn't agree with, and just like every time, he had to scope it out for himself first.

It was promising that other people did seem fine when dealing with the pond, and the sight was- well, he had never seen such enormous lilypads- in his life. He didn't really think they existed anywhere on earth in such a substantial size. And it did make him wonder if they were perhaps not of earth... But that was a separate issue entirely.

Clutching his censer, billowing with a gentle pink smoke, Regal stepped out onto the nearest lilypad. It supported him easily. Genuinely there was no indication that it might give way.

And it didn't, really. Because 'falling into the water' definitely wasn't going to be the main source of danger, as he was about to discover.

Alpena-Amberly had just kind of accidentally wondered in to the area - it wasn't like he was looking for the location of the strange giant lillypads that people were going on about. Nope. Especially when his survival instincts were telling him that strange things like this that were clearly not natural, especially to the area, were suspicious and probably Not Good.

But by golly, there he was. And there they were, and- hey!

"Watch out! There's something in the water!" the Cybele page called out with alarm, a slight panic setting in - what were they going to do? What could they do to help?

It seemed he wasn't the only one doing an investigation. A warm and friendly signature signaled the arrival of a Page, thought the friendliness from an ally was just a little dampened by the shouts of concern. And could Regal just say that it was a good thing he had come and checked this place out before letting his child come here completely unsupervised.

From where he stood on the lilypad, he could see a hulking Shadow move beneath it, and as it Rose to the surface, the water rippled, disturbing his balance. Regal took a tentative step back, immediately finding the edge of the lilypad- and also finding that it was not as secure as the center as his foot immediately dipped below the water. "Oh, fu-!"

He toppled with a great splash, though he was thankfully not far from the bank at all. The water wasn't deep, and he was able to scrabble with his hands for purchase as something leaped from the water, careening over him- where he would've been standing if he were still upright- and landing with a heavy plop' between him and the newly-arrived page.

"It's... the largest frog I have ever seen in my life."

Surely not native to somewhere as innocuous as Destiny City...

It rumbled out a deep croak, and then its tongue whipped out of its mouth, striking for any human in reach. Regal clawed his way up the bank by dragging at handfuls of grass, yanking himself to his feet and shedding off the heaviest, waterlogged layers of his robes as he ran to try and put himself nearer to the Page- the Page who had a note of panic in his voice, such that Regal knew he had to do his best to protect him. "Just run! Don't look back, and don't worry! Run, run!"

Oh, he wished he was better at this Knight thing....

And it was very uncomfortable how often he'd made that wish of late.
