Quote: The Calling ( 8 ) : A beautiful melody drifts on the air from somewhere far away. The vocals are in a language you don't quite recognize, but feel somehow familiar to you. Something about the song calls to you, but no matter where you go, the song seems to sound the same distance away. The longer it goes on, the more emotional the song becomes--and the more emotional you become. Something about the song is possessive and consuming, like it's all you can think of. Something resonates in you as the song crescendos, and the feeling is at its strongest--be they good, bad, anything, but suddenly the song fades, and there's only an emptiness inside of you. The feeling of loss is strong, and can leave someone feeling emotionally numb. Someone out there was calling to you, and you couldn't find them. The song was playing again, and this time, Winters was hurrying towards it, wanting to know where it was coming from, wanting to make sure she actually found the source this time, but when she felt another aura and slowed to a stop blinking at the person that belonged to the aura.
They were tall, but that wasn’t it. Their hair was what grabbed her attention…it was kind of sparkly, and a beautiful color…but then…there were horns. And a tail.
The sight of the other Senshi made all thoughts of the strange music absolutely fade into nothingness and Winters gaped, confused.
“You…have a tail. And horns? Are…uh. Those normal?” Or was it like…part of the whole magical gimmick? That…made sense. Not good sense but some sense. She could deal with that if it was the case.
“...I didn’t get a tail or anything when I became magical…”

There was an eerie song on the wind.
Jörmungandr could not help but follow it--something about it called to something in his chest, an old ache that permeated his entire being. It tugged at grief, at regret, at the loss of his world and the deaths of his people. A requiem, in a language he did not know, and yet the melody told him more than enough.
Mourning songs transcended language, it seemed.
He had been following it for some time when he realized he was not alone--which was enough to break the entrancement and make him pause, and he was left with a heaviness in his chest that did not match the joy he generally got from basking in the summer's heat on this beautiful, vibrant, living world.
His tail lashed, briefly, like the movement might banish the fog from his mind, though it did little to actually clear his thoughts; neither did fiddling with the little violet star charm he'd found earlier in the evening. The only thing that did was taking a moment to take in the Senshi in front of him--young, but so many on Earth seemed so young to him, though he knew not to judge too much by appearances. He looked young, too, especially for over twelve hundred years of life.
"For me, they are, yes," he said, and he let himself smile, just a little. "For you, they would not be. But I am not of Earth."

“Oh, interesting.” The response was…bland, mostly because Winters was…confused. Not of Earth? She supposed that would explain the tail and the horns…and the super nice hair but…
At the same time it made no sense at all and she was nodding her head like a doggie on a dashboard…but the good thing about the confusion, it absolutely ruled out the feelings that the music had brought up…which if she had the mental capacity to think on it was a very good thing indeed.
“So…you’re from….somewhere else then?”
Space, maybe but…that seemed far too cliche…maybe they had been summoned. It was possible. Magic bullshit and whatever. People summoning un-human things…and then them getting to become magical too?
This city was ******** up, and she could see it happening.

She seemed less surprised than he might have expected, but, well, perhaps she had been distracted by what they had both heard. That would make sense. He could still feel something aching in his chest, just from the reminder of loss and grief.
Unpleasant. If it lingered long, he might have to find something to drown it in.
Jörmungandr nodded, in response to her question, and gave a little flourishing bow.
"Sailor Jörmungandr, at your service, from the planet with which I share a name. I'm given to understand that I am not the only Senshi who has come to your world from afar, but there aren't very many of us." He couldn't decide if that was a good thing or a bad thing. A tragedy, that so many worlds were gone forever--but perhaps a blessing in that it meant that there were not many worlds being directly fed on by Chaos.
Difficult to say, really.

“Ah. So…like a legit alien? That’s…”
Winters wrinkled her nose and began to circle around this Jörmungandr, taking in all that she could of his…everything.
“Are you like, sure you’re from another planet and not from like, another plane of existence? I mean, I guess aliens are cool, but I had this whole story in my head that you were summoned to this city by weirdos, which really made more sense to me. I haven’t lived here very long but from what I’ve seen recently? What a ******** up place this is…and you being from another planet…”
She sighed and shrugged. “Kind of lame in the grand scheme of things.”
Winters stopped circling and faced the other Senshi again, putting her hand on her hips.
“How long have you lived here for? Do you like it?”

Jörmungandr couldn't help himself. Her suggestion made him burst out into laughter, loud and joyous.
"Another plane--oh, that's very funny, you're quite creative," he said, cheerily. The amusement banished the lingering cobwebs of mourning from his heart; the dead were gone, and the prospect that he might be some monstrous creature summoned from beyond the bounds of reality was far more interesting to think about. He stood still and let her circle around him, tail swishing idly; let her take in what she was seeing, since he was such a peculiarity to her.
"No, sorry to disappoint, I'm quite certain. Jörmungandr the world isn't far from your Earth, in the celestial sense, so I'm afraid that even for a being from beyond your sky, I'm quite a close neighbor."
Ah, the silly ideas of youth. How charming.
"Only about half of one of your years, but I like it well enough. Your world is very lively. And very different from the times I had occasion to visit in the past."

“That’s about how long I’ve lived here. It’s a crazy city, isn’t it?” Winters shook her head and shrugged again, feeling a little self conscious at the laughter, but also a little pleased by it. She was funny. That was good, right? Funny was good.
“Okay so maybe six months is a little…I’ve been here since May, and while that feels like a long while ago, it’s really not that long when I think that it’s only July. But. What’s it like there? I’m guessing you don’t have shopping malls and cute clothes.”
Her eyes scanned his Senshi outfit and she felt a little guilty. It wasn’t bad by any means. “What’s the culture like?”

"Strange to have all this confined to one place," Jörmungandr agreed. "I find there's enough wildness here for several planets." But perhaps that was the trick of it. they were all drawn here for a reason, and there was so much strangeness.
But he was not a magical theorist, and only needed to be one as such as it had pertained to the things he encountered in the past, so all he really had was a sort of vague web of thoughts and nothing beyond that.
Ah well.
"It was different, certainly. Dense jungles, and cities built on top of ruins. My people's past was rich, and our home was vibrant and beautiful. Many of us were adventurers, explorers, scholars and historians. Our merchants traded fine goods with the whole universe." There was a certain distant melancholy in his gaze. "Chaos destroyed it all, alas. There's naught but the latest set of ruins left, now."

“Oh that’s a total drag. Well at least you’re here and can borrow our fashion and culture if you want. I’m sure nobody’ll mind.” Winters had absolutely no power in this city, but she was human and totally belonged here…even if this guy had been here longer...that didn’t matter. Totally didn’t matter.
“If you ever want, I’m always game for shopping or something…but do you have a way to hide the tail and the horns? Because…that’ll fly in a few months with Halloween coming up but until then…like. How do you survive with those showing?”
That was a good question and one that she hadn’t thought about until now. The tail was…very obvious and it would like like a giant…tumor or something if it was stuffed into pants. And shorts would be totally off the table, and it was hot right now…
“I guess you can hide the horns under a hat…”

There was something sort of impressive about the resilience of youth. Or perhaps this girl was so self-centered that the concept of so many deaths didn't move her.
Ah well, at least she wasn't getting all weepy and dramatic. Jörmungandr preferred that, if he was honest. Getting cried all over sounded terribly unpleasant.
"I have found that I like what your world has to offer," he acknowledged. "And I do have a way to look human, don't worry. Perhaps it would be nice to go shopping sometime."
He had some clothes, of course, but exploring markets had always been a joy, even if they looked different here.

“Oh well that’s good. Because people can be rude.” Winters nodded in approval and didn’t outright say that in any circumstance she would be the one saying something about the tail and horns? But if someone was walking around with a tail and horns and it wasn’t October…she sure wouldn’t be nice about it.
Nothing would be said to the person’s face of course…but.
For a moment, there was a small flicker of disappointment on her face which she quickly tried to get rid of. She really didn’t have an friends her age here…and while she wanted to be cady and clique-y…she had no clique to speak of.
Another drag, but he didn’t need to know this or care about it. She was totally fine.
“Yeah all right! I’ll make sure you end up wearing something perfect!”
