Senka was born alike a shifter; to two parents who didn't quite understand that you should stick around and teach their young to survive essentially. And before that reality could come to both her parents they and her section of Umbral family were wiped out. On one of her missions, Cygnus Nebulae had found a young scared Senka and took Senka into her orphanage. Cygnus coming to understanding that Senka was of one of Monfulta's domain and species, she sought him out in Underlands, bringing with her the young and scared Senka to be raised by him and Katya. Senka had grown into a rather empathetic and intuitive creature. However, like many of the Underlands, she had her quirks.
She had always been taught to trust her intuition by her adoptive brother Umbra, who had come from a situation much of her own. She was taught vigorously to not follow a hunter as she would simply become their prey, but upon finding them. Something in her turned, some sort of understanding she didn't hear the usual inner warnings about. Instead, the usually logical warm voice that was gifted to her at such a young age became a murmuring whisper that almost became confused by the illogical curiousity that became louder than it. This had never happened to Senka, yes, she partook in some dangerously dumb tasks but she always allowed the logical guide deep within her pull her through each task with little to no damage.
She wanted to become their friend, that was the task. She was no Angeni and she barely understood the task of her multi-winged god-like friends. They had domains, and they had powers that far exceeded her loud intuition that guarded her heart and the inky shadows that dripped from her fur, but something told her she could become close to the feral beast that Umbra had sworn her off of. It had been some time before she realized that her inner monologue became loud with the realization that they knew she was stalking them. Stalking? She was mostly herding them, to safety. Or so that's how it started. Senka often smelled bear, they didn't have that familiar warm sparkle to them like Tengu had, had. But it was often covered in blood and they did not make her so curious it silenced her logical senses. The inner force yelled at her to back away and not proceed with the bear shifter unlike how the force quieted down as they herded Tengu. Only giving Senka next moves. She softly played chess with her huntee, and that bear had felt like a threat that would even be difficult for her shifter to fend off. She didn't want them to get maimed, they were her shifter.
With the evasion of the bear successful she returned to Underland for half a season before the force told her that her curiousity was knocking heavily at its logical door. She needed to see where the lightning shifter had gone off to. Returning herself to see if they had gone off from the area she was herding them towards, they hadn't. If anything, it almost seemed like they were waiting for her presence. She tried to tell herself, along with the force she was so in tune with, that there was no way the shifter felt anything towards her. But even the force sounded like it was confused if that was the right answer. It had been almost worded like a question. Senka was not large, and although she was an adept huntress, she knew she would not succeed in a fight against her shifter. They were powerful, she had seen them hunt many times, though while they were awake, she stayed quite far. Senka only ever allowed herself to get so close as to touch them once. They had curled up so tight in a den that was more open than they usually liked. It had been such a temptation to ignore the screech of her intuition, the force upset that she was not heeding it. With their mask off, Senka moved to softly nudge along their forehead, moving her muzzle against their crown of blood red feathers. They were so different than the black ones that had often danced with snapping lightning. Peaceful, almost. But she knew better than to believe this peace could be successfully reached between them. This was the only time she had gotten so close she could touch them. And it only lasted less than a minute as her foolish curiousity had made them stir.
Maybe that's why they knew their stalker was celestial in colours. She had accidentally left a shadowy ink in their feathers as well as the ground in the entrance. Soft paws flying past the angeni she had a small understanding of who she was; Shri. Which this startled her. Seeing an angeni but if there was something about Shri she knew. It was that she was good at charming shifters much like Howl. Tucking her small ears down against her nape at the realization there was another hunter she was curious if Shri and Howl had wanted to befriend her shifter.
Perhaps a curious jealousy got the better of her. For a moment, a very small moment in her heart she wasn't sure how she felt about Shri. But she had to return to her uncle and aunt for a little bit. She would soon come back within the season or the next to check on Tengu. Unknowingly she had become endearing to Tengu.
When she returned. She caught them asking a question to the area. "Where are you?" Her intuition whispered; you are who they are looking for. She didn't even notice the charm on their wing disk. "Right here." She said out loud. Pushing herself to step out of the thicket and into the clearing she had once herded her shifter into.

It was a strange thing, to have spent their whole life alone and then suddenly find they had company. True, it was not a traditional sort of companion, nothing really resembling a normal relationship or what they admittedly could only guess a normal relationship might be. Not that they had much framework for it, other than what they observed at a distance. From a distance, parents raised their young, treated them often with kindness, taught them things.
Tengu Shockwing had never had that. They were a Shifter child and likely born of a Shifter, so their basket had been left in the wilds with the intent that when they were strong enough they would emerge alone. They would survive alone, or not, on their own strength and cleverness and merit. It was no concern to Shifter parents, it seemed. They scattered the baskets wide enough that there might be a chance the siblings survive each other -and in Tengu's case, they certainly had- but otherwise washed their paws or claws of the whole matter.
So Tengu emerged alone, and remained alone, growing and traveling and hunting alone. Which they rather decided they preferred, as others when observed at a distance struck them as somewhat meddlesome and annoying. As an adult they rather thought they would continue believe that to be true, but that was when something seemed to decide it was necessary to change their mind. For a time they had stayed in motion, seeking quieter territory still lush with prey that they could claim for their own. But whatever force was chasing them had refused to relent, constantly chasing, nipping at their heels so to speak, until they finally stumbled their way into a pocket of territory they must have deemed suitable.
Pressure relented, the presence of other Shifters faded into the distance, and Tengu was left alone to their own devices... to an extent. And strangely enough, they seemed to miss their odd little shadow force. So they lingered in the selected territory, and waited, and beyond evading the meddlesome presence of an Angeni, they remained content to do so. Their shadow danced in and out of their space, boldly deciding to enter their den when they recovered from an arduous hunt... Leaving scent and ink and evidence of their interest.
'What a peculiar little shadow.' Tengu found themselves thinking, once the Angeni had completed her assigned task and vanished to avoid their ire. 'Was she working on your orders too?'
There were no answers, only more questions, but they could be patient. They could wait. All patiently crackling lightning, dark pelt, bloody feathers, and darkly shining charm. They would wait.
And wait they had, until today it seemed. She was stepping out of the dark and into the sunlight, and Tengu watched her approach. Ears swiveled forward, wings mantled at their sides, a fearsome beak clicked contemplatively. "You have returned to us?" Tengu Shockwing Wordcount: 485
