i beat it on hard mode with every energy expansion, thats all you really need, just pick a missile pack when you can get it then and there, you honestly don't need alot. I beat Metroid Prime with only 105 missiles.

Fire a charged Wave Beam shot and follow that with a missile. And strafe a lot.
