"Freaking the Mundanes" is a term which comes from the SCA (Society for Creative Anactcronism=Medevil reenactment) meaning "to wear funny clothes in hopes of confusing people and making them ask 'are you in a play?' " "Mundane" is a slightly arcane word meaning "normal" or "boring", which SCAdians (members of the SCA) use to mean "non-SCAdian".
However, as I've known all of you for a while, and I know while not all of you are in the SCA, none of you are mundanes (though Tana-chan skates the hairy edge... "just messin' with ya!") and that it is a very random thing to do, in fact, something at the very heart of all that is the RRRNSPBG, to "freak the mundanes". So here's a very guild apropriate disscussion (I will NOT be outdone, Willow!), freaking the mundanes: is it appropriate? Do you enjoy it? Tips and schemes on the best way to weird out the general public.

Not a practitioner of the art myself. But it's fun to see others do it. Its the spice of life really. Good ole chaos.

I can't say I've ever TRIED to freak the mundanes. But, oh, I'm sure I've succeeded without any need to, you know, actually try anything.
My favorite pair of socks, by the way, is a white pair that I drew on. I was drawing a fairy stick figure thingy when my brother came into the room (I was at my mom's workplace, actually. Heh.), stopped, and looked at me weirdly. Then he asked what I was doing, decided he'd rather not know, and left.
Well, if I don't draw on them when I'm wearing them it comes out bad, okay?

And nothing wrong with that. The only real "freaking the mundanes" I do isn't strictly on purpose... it's just I get mistaken for a woman, and then a homophobe hits on me... sweatdrop And of course I dress like lord Byron...

Lord Charlemain Richards And nothing wrong with that. You know, I actually weirded out a classmate of mine while drawing on my socks. I offered to draw a pretty flower on his socks, but he didn't want any. I told him he was boring. Then he left the classroom. That must be uncomfortble, having homophobes hit on you. I think I remember a thread you made in the GD about your amazing ability to look female. But I forgot the whole thing, so...

Something I've always wanted to do- Get at least one other person, bake a bunch of cupcakes, get dressed up as characters from Alice in Wonderland, and head down to Boston for a day. Then, we sneak up on random people, then jump out, dance around, sing "A very merry unbirthday to you" and give them a cupcake. We the disappear into the crowd as best as a bunch of people in costumes can.
Maybe it would work better at a con, but it'd be less of a surprise.
