Nikkor 70-300mm or Sigma 70-300mm?

I just opted and bought a Nikon D70S package ( biggrin biggrin ), and one of the included items is a choice between a Nikkor 70-300mm lens or a Sigma 70-300mm lens. The Sigma looks more complex, but that doesn't always mean better, so I thought I'd ask here. Suggestions?

My bet would be on the Nikkor 70-300, assuming that you are talking about the non-ED version. (ED version is $300, non is about $150).

If you are getting this as a kit lense, ie: your only lense...I'd scrap both and go for a wider angle lense...like the 18-70 lense that normally comes with the D70. It's a fantastic lense for $300.

The kit actually comes with an 18-70mm lens, the 70-300mm, and then a wide-angle lens

Well from what I've read now, people seem to really like the Sigma 70-300mm Macro. I'll double-check on the info, but it's looking like the Sigma.

two of my favorite lenses are Sigma's - I personally wouldn't worry too much about the nikkor v/ Sigma quality debate. There is a difference at the high end, but the lenses in the kit don't fit that - so it's a non-issue.

If there is no price difference, and the Sigma offers macro, I'd go with it.
