Grymry Ice Plains

This is an icy wasteland on a thick, solid sheet of ice atop the great ocean. Almost nothing lives here, including people. There are no settlements and no facilities to aid survival here; it is the last refuge of the desperate.

makota felt the lift begin to slow. At first a slight sense of panic began to raise in him but then he remembered the ice plains weren't far away so it wouldn't take long to reach their destination.

He waited as it continued to a stop, whilst he waited he was mezmerized by Fyrinae's bizzare dance which had no musical rhythm or melody that could be recognized. He wasn't looking forward to the ice plains but hopefully they would be able to find some warmer attire quickly. Then he remembered what she had said: 'festival'. He didn't know anything about this festival but as he found everything with Fyrinae required a fast learner and he was sure he would soon know more.

"Whoo, we's here!" Fyrinae pointed out unnecessarilarly, breaking off from her dance. "Issa verreh cold so's you may wanna put on a jacket."
The lift opened and she stepped out, shivering. "Hum. The festival is usually there" - she poined to an expanse of flat white snow - "but las' year it was there," - she pointed to a different expanse of snow.
"I guess we better pick a venue an' I'll do a fire spell an' warm us up 'n' stuff."

When the rush of cold entered the lift as the doors opened Makota lost his breath. It was bitterly cold. Her comment didn't help, where were they going to get a jacket from. He had a shirt in a bag but that wasn't going to do much in these temperatures.

"C'mon then!" she called, rushing out and aiming her staff at an arbitrary patch of ice. "Iss gonna be great!"

She muttered a couple of words under her breath, waved her hand a little and threw some coal dust from her pocket in the air, and a tongue of flame leapt from the end and melted the top layer of ice a little, making a puddle of slightly warm water. "Hmm. That didn't go 's well 's I'd've liked."

Not quite sure on how to react to the theatrics which ultimately hadn't done anything he stood and stared at the puddle which was already cooling rapidly. He then looked to Fyrinae "... What was that?" he asked slightly confused and some what scared. She was probably going to destroy a large area of the plains if she got too carried away.

The pod slowed and stopped, but the doors didn't open. She stood up and pressed the button on the comms. console and the reply came back that there was still someone partly in the lift up above her. "Can't you get me on to another docking point?" she asked exasperatedly.

"Not really" came the reply" All the other shutes are being used for the regular lifts and the only other free one is the emergency one, unless this really is an emergency?"

She considered it for a split second and chnged her mind, this was going to get her in enough trouble as it was. Open the doors to this one now and as soon as hes out and both are looking away move both lifts up so this one is where that one is... can you do it quickly and silently, so they don't know its happening?"

"Definatly!" he replied happily. This was the sort of thing he always dreamed of happening.

"Oh, that was jus' magic," she replied nonchalantly, as if it was an ordinary everyday occurence - which, to her, it was. "Maybe if I do a really big one I c'n make a sorta hot tub," she mused, considering the situation while bent down and dabbling her right hand in the water. She came to a decision and straightened up.
"Huh. I wonder how they do make it warm enough so's the Festival c'n be held here. Lessee... Think... Warmin' an area... Shoulden be too hard..."

"Are you sure we should mess with the climate here?" he asked getting more and more worried. "Perhaps we should find some where for shelter then think about making puddles. Better yet can you conjour up a coat?" he said with a shiver.

"Conjur up a coat?!?" she replied. "Whaddaya think I am, some kinda... Magician?!? 'Sides, you shoulda thought of that when you were setting out," she finished, neatly forgetting that she also had no coat.
"Anyways, 's' fine for us professionals to mess with the climate. We know what we's doin'.

Half a mile from the two of them, on a thicker, more stable sheet of ice, workers were busily constructing the festival arena. Impenetrable, invisible walls of energy were activated, rides of all kinds were put up. The stall area, where people with permits could sell their wares and run games, was cleared and prepared and the whole place began to hum with life for the first time in a year. Soon a path would be made back to the nearest lifts, ready for stallholders to arrive. But the biggest and most mysterious attraction was yet to be fired up...
The festival planner swivelled in his chair in his makeshift office, his thin metallic body swathed in material. Even the magic couldn't make it warm enough for his liking. He laughed. "Haha, this'll be the best Winter Festival ever!"

As Makota stepped out of the lift it moved up quickly and silently and locked in place with a tiny click. She sat on one of the chairs facing the doorway and waited for one of them to notice her.

He looked at her uneasily. "Come on lets go and find some shelter or something" he said as he began to walk away from her, completely unaware of the activities of the lift behind them.

(I'm going to the festival thread ^_^)

Fyrinae sighed. "Yeah, awright. Over there looks good."
She pointed in the exact same direction Makota was already heading.

Karma shook her head and headed after them towards the festival, walking around the small puddle Fyrinae had made along the way.
