I keep blanking out at certain times when I am asked a question about something I've never heard of.(Usually refering to advice or non-academical stuff) And then I give this long answer while part of me is detached. Does this happen to anyone else?

Well, I've felt detached from the world on and off. It tends to come and go. It almost feels like I'm dreaming but I'm wide awake. Like, I'm not really here, but I know that I am. I've no idea why it happens.
Though, there was this one time, when my friend and I had just finished dealing with an angry aboriginal spirit that something strange happened. Ok, long story short, I did what I could and I think the spirit had calmed down a little. She and I could still sense it around, but it felt as though it were slowly retreating. Anyway, so her and I both swore to never return to the place where we had encountered the spirit(it had followed us). Anyway, she said something along the lines of "Something bad will happen if we go back there. One of us will get hurt." and I had kinda fazed out a bit. I said something like "No, there's more than that. If we go back there, we'll pay with our lives.". She was so creeped out when I said that.
Apparently when I had said that, my eyes took on this seemingly malevolent glint that was not my own. My voice and voice intonation had also subtly changed. I was talking at a slightly lower voice pitch than I normally do. I kinda snapped out of my little fazed out stage when she stared at me and asked me if I was there and if it was me. I was confused, as I did know what I had just said..but it just seemed odd that she thought that I wasn't myself. I asked her what she meant and she had explained how for like two seconds I kinda took on a different demeanor and different voice intonation.
I guess in a similar way, it might be one of your guides talking to you, as opposed to some other spirit?
Though, on a semi-random note..I do tend to randomly speak with a British accent..and I honestly don't know why. It's been that way for quite awhile, possibly starting around grade nine or maybe before that, though long before the aforementionned spirit incident with my friend. It just comes and goes, but I have no control over it. To make the best of it, I don't even watch British television. sweatdrop

So there are some other possibilities than having my past lives screw around in this one. And that blank period with the spirit was probably it possesing you and pretending to be you.

My friend had said before that that was probably it. *cringes* The thought of being possessed creeps me out. Then again, the movie The Exorcist pretty much had me scared of spirits in general for the longest time *is getting over that two-year-ish semi-trauma-ish period*. sweatdrop I'm a scaredy cat like that. that movie seriously scarred me. But, that's irrevalent.
But yeah, it might be your Spirit Guides. Other than that, it could be your past lives. *shrugs* I can't really offer up any more suggestions or explanations really. Much like I can't really explain my random British accent. sweatdrop .
My sincerest apoligies if I'm not all that helpful.

I do that, too!!!
It tends to be my souls responding, OR, I can see their life situation better.
As for British accents, I keep my tucked away pretty well until I hear one.
And even so, if I'm not, sometimes I'll accidentally add it in to my regular English.
"Oh, berloody Hell...!"

Actually, I remember seeing this documentary on a woman who lived in America all her life, suffered some sort of brain injury or stroke (I can't remember which), and now cannot speak in anything other than a British accent. I only remember bits and pieces of what I saw, but the neurologists and psychologists think the injury/stroke affected the speech part of her brain, holding it "British mode," I guess. I should go look that up again...
But yeah...for some reason people say I give excellent relationship advice. Which I find to be extremely strange, since I have never been in a relationship, nor really have any desire for to be in one. I don't know where it comes from, really. At the time it seems perfectly natural and normal, but then when I replay the conversation, it definetly dosen't seem like me. It's odd. I mean, I can predict people's actions pretty well, but that seems more like repeated observation, not just...there. Perhaps that's just one of my past lives showing through, though I don't really believe in them that much. Reincarnation dosen't really fit in my beliefs system.
And...(wow, I'm really going backwards on this) I too feel particularly detached from pretty much everything. But I have recently found something to attribute that to, so it dosen't bother me so much anymore.

Lord only knows what it is rolleyes There are multiple things that could cause a sense of detachment, and it could be any of them each time it happens. For instance-
1. Temporary possession. Spirits have no material body of their own and desire more than anything to control a body. For this reason, a spirit will take over any body nearby that has it's guard down. Many times a spirit only has the power to possess a body for a few seconds, however, before the body recognizes and repels it.
2. Instant hypnosis. Your mind spaces out and you enter a brief and instantaneous meditative state in which (like in all meditations) you body and mind become detached.
3. Split personality? biggrin
Speaking of temporary possession- I have an interesting story ^^ But that's for another day, yes?

Sometimes I just phase out and go into a trance while staring at something random, like my bookcase. I come to in abut five minutes feeling way more calm. Is this a similar thing?

Happens to my husband all the time. Or at least, it used to. These days he's better at just integrating the new info as it arrives - I guess familiarity helps. He's always been pretty clear it's divine inspiration of some kind, so it was never a scary thing for him.
Me, I get a sort of non-stop babble, so I've learned to tune it out on a conscious level - I just tend to be able to answer really convoluted philosophical or healing-related questions (those are the ones I get asked) by letting what I've been told flow through. I'm teaching myself to pay more attention to them, so sometimes I can actually have a decent conversation and get to ask my own questions. I consider it a benefit, not something creepy. And yes, sometimes the phrases are quite odd - I usually translate mentally before speaking.
But I'll tell you this for nothing - if a shrink ever asked if I hear voices, I'd ruddy well say no.
