Not much going on in here lately, huh? Anyway, I figured I'd make a post about- as the subject line says- conventions. I'm going to dragoncon in september, and this'll be my first convention. (Why do they never have anything good in Philly? Ah well, at least, this gives me an excuse to visit friends.) And I'm going in costume, along with a group of friends in a matching set. I would feel pathetic doing this, but we're all dressing up as characters who actually look like us, so it's not so bad.

Anyone have anything to contribute about said topic, or just randomly talk?

I went to Otakon last year, and it was incredible.

I hope to go this year, preferrably in costume, but I've yet to register ... I should get on that.

Otakon is anime, right? What was it like? I really have no idea what I'm getting into here. sweatdrop

Yeah, I have to look into getting the tickets and all for dragoncon.

Yup, Anime.

It was interesting ... loads of people cosplaying and walking around in wacky outfits.

All the Rooms had anime shows playing on large Projectors, so audiences of like 200 could watch them.

And then there's the "Merch" booths downstairs ... that was cool. So many goodies that you really can't find anywhere.

The Gaia booth was fun, too. My friend and I donated and got a chance to spin the wheel, as well as got a chance to meet, get pictures with, and have posters signed by Lanzer!

Really fun, but expen$ive.

I went to AnimeCon a couple of weeks ago.
I had the best time!
I didn't dress up or anything,
but I got to hang out with L0cke,
what can be greater than that?!
The next one I go to I'm gonna try to dress up as <>

I wanted to go to an anime con back when I was really into anime, but now I'm out of the loop and would have no idea what was going on. sweatdrop

Hey, dressing up as your avatar! Neat idea!

Heh, originally I was just going to go with clothes that I already had for my costume, but then I found the perfect outfit online, then I got boots for my birthday, and now that I have a good job and the money to spend, I'm picking up more bits and pieces here and there. I'm going to wow everyone (if they have any idea of the Discworld fandom, heh) but end up passing out because I'll be wearing lots of black velvet in the South in early September. xd

Otakon is up in Canada, yeah? I've heard it was really fun this year!

I went to my second convention last month in North Cali called Fanimecon. They're a lot of fun. Basically same experience as Chazzzzz. The costumes are funny, the stuff is hard to find, and the entry fee is exspensive, but worth it! 3nodding

My only advice is bring water and plan ahead all the activities that you want to do, so you don't end up squandering your time on something rediculous. <--last time I ended up watching some crazy anime for hours and missed some really cool events because I lost track of time. sweatdrop

As for fangirls.... they're unavoidable. But once you've stuffed enough pocky into your system nothing really phases you anymore, and you should be able to co-exhist with them for at least a few hours.

Awww, so I'm going to have to coexist with fangirls? I was hoping I'd just be able to ...I don't know, beam girls wearing Harry Potter costumes over the head with my scythe or something. ninja

But bring water and plan ahead. Got it. 3nodding

Actually Otakon is in Baltimore, MD. My home state.
Coincidentally it takes less than fifteen minutes to get to the Convention Center. 4laugh
