Imagine a world in which Alchemy is not only possible, but used frequently. Alchemy, though, is a science, and with all sciences there are laws that must be followed. Welcome to the anime, Full Metal Alchemist. The story begins about two brothers, Alphonse (left) and Edward (right) Elric. Ever since they were young they had practiced the science of alchemy. You follow their journey of being alchemists and their quest to regain that which they have lost.
Their father was a well recognized alchemist, which is probably where their knack for it comes from. However, when they were young their father left, and they remained in the care of their mother. One day their mother died, and in their innocence and ignorance, they attempted what was forbidden, human alchemy.
What happened next, they were obviously not prepared for, and in the aftermath the brothers lost more than just their mother. In the freak accident Alphonse loses his body, and in a moment of panic Edward ties his brother's soul to a piece of armor. Edward himself loses an arm and a leg, a costly reminder of what has happend.
The story begins and details the brother's journey to find a alchemy amplifier so that they may return to their normal bodies.

So--talk about it! Which pairings do you find the hottest or most compelling? Do you see any lines between the characters that could be utilized in a good fanfic or similar fanwork? Have a favorite (female) character? Did you enjoy the series?
How far is the Funimation dub right now, anyway? Did it ever finish?

I'm not entirely sure if the Funimation dub is finished yet...the farthest I've seen, they got to Izumi and have met Greed and his gang. But of course, I'm a little behind the times. O:
I have to say that I really like more involved Ross/Riza and Izumi/Martel...and then very, very fluffy Winry/Sceizka (spelling, yeah)....and then something along the lines of Lust/Sloth. x3 Largely, my love goes everywhere...any pairing in that series that looks hot is one of my favourites. I think, though, that because so many of the female characters are just so much more...independant, and self-supportive...able to take care of themselves...that makes them much more slashable, for some reason.
But that's just me.

Snd now because I'm still bored out of my mind, I'm going to write a little thing on each of the pairings I picked out. I like most of them, but that's because...I ship almost every pairing in every fandom I'm in.
Um. Yeah. If it can work, I like it. =__="
EDIT: 'Kay, well, I'm too tired to do more than one. How sad. XD For later discussion, I guess. :3

Riza x Ross is HOT STUFF. Military chicks ftw! And yeah...Martel x anyone is good in my book. @__@ She's sexy. Really. Really. Sexy.
Winry x Scieszka is the best fluff ever because it works so well, and it's so close to canon. I've actually seen Lust x Sloth played off very well in all of the works I've seen, so I'm very into that pairing, as well.
And yeah, you're right--that's one reason I loved this series so much. They're all strong characters, and that makes them very appealing to me. X3

I selected Winry x Paninya among the options on my poll because while I like just about everything listed, this is one of the rarer pairings that works the best. The characters already have a relationship of some kind (Winry and Paninya had a short bonding-type thing in episode 26 where Winry repaired her automail for her), and the automail thing is just too good not to play off of. ;]

I like anything with Hawkeye, why I'm not to sure. Just when my friend and I first saw her (we were watching Japaniese with subs) we both thought that she was a he and that either way she was hot....

I thought of that pairing while I was reading the chapters with Paninya in them, and I loved it from there^^ (I also fell in love with Pan as a character, but she's only in the story for a few chapters..)They're both really strong characters, and there is that Auto-mail bond going on

Arrgh, yes. WinryxPaninya was almost...too obvious when I was first reading #5 of the manga, and then even more so when I was watching the anime episode with Paninya in it....it would make for some great fanworks, it's so cuute. x3

OMG! I love this series! It's so accurate with the theories, as well with the way people would write their research project on the ways of alchemy! Adding in the 7 deadly sins? GENIOUS! Okay so I'm only on episode 18 of this series... so I'm not all to familiar with all the characters in it. However I really really like winry!

I've been watching this series recently and seem to be enjoying it too. Overall my favorite characters are Winry and Lust, but I'm pretty sure there'll be other characters for me to look out for. I can't really see it, but I'm a Winry/Rose shipper, for now.

Yeah, so I loooove the series(duh), and I have to say after finishing it and buying Conqueror of Shamballa, I'd have to say that just about anything with Scieszka in it has my attention. heart heart
