So, I was wondering if anyone besides me noticed a specific something that tends to happen on Serenity advertisements, DVD boxes, etc. In all the movie flyers and promotional pictures, they always make River look very beautiful and sexy, but in both the show and movie, I think she looks...well, certainly not ugly by any means, but she is neither sexy nor beautiful. I think she's kinda close to plain, actually. I know they want to make her look plain, at least a little, to show that she is not completely all there and really has no reason to think about how she looks. But still, in the promotional stuff, they portray her to be something she's not.
(Don't get me wrong. The actress is beautiful. But I wouldn't consider the character very attractive.)

Yeah. I highly doubt they let joss design the ads (as if he had time) and I find that this sort of thing happens with some book covers too. It ticks me off a little cause its like if you dont know the movie, then how can you promote it?

But yeah, on the DVD cover I dont like the way river looks cause she doesnt even look like herself.

yeah, most of the time we see river, she just has a wandering and absent look about herself. now, in the movie when we see her fight, she has a kind of power and grace that perhaps makes her appear more attractive. but, other than that, she is portrayed as something she definately isn't.
