Sasayaki crouched on the bank of the river near the place that he called home, wearing nothing but a short cloth to keep his privates somewhat covered as he scrubbed at his dirty robes. One of the children had accidentally tripped him up earlier and he'd fallen straight into a large puddle of clay mud, orange clay mud.. And it was a pain in the butt to try and scrub out of black robes.

A young boy poked his nose out from some bushes, blushing lightly at the half naked man that knelt by the waters edge. His cheeks dirty with dust, as was his hair, and his ragged clothing. He coughed lightly, covering his mouth in an attempt to silence the noises he was making.

In fact, the boy was an orphan, a sickly one at that, and over and over in his mind he played over how he would steal the monks money as he washed his robes. Truly ingenious on his part, if he had realized one thing, but we'll get to that in a moment.

What brought the boy to this place? Oppertunity. Simply put, the boy was hungry, and had heard that the church was taking in the homeless children, feeding and clothing them, though he planned on stealing what money the monk had to buy something back that he had lost to another.
So the boy snuck foreward, as silently as he could, not even the bushes rustling as he brushed by them, oh he was that good.

The young 'monk' was nearly finished with his robes, smiling and standing up straight as he shook them out. The shrine he studied in hardly had any money, but they raised a lot of crops as a part of their daily life and the women all knew how to make clothing so they were at least somewhat well supplied. They were something of an isolated society out here in nature, the only way a Taoist could actually learn about the balance was to live it.

To fix some minor misgiven information, the boy is more or less 17, still concidered young by most, for the fact that he still acted like a child, pickpocketing for his money, and running away from his responsibilities, and the church was more of a shrine, but to the eyes of an outsider, it appeared to be some form of church.

He stood slowly, his height about 6 feet, hardly a boy really... though still an orphan at that. He had raised himself, hince the poor attitude that he upheld through the towns.

His feet unshoed carried him closer and closer to the 'monks' wallet, his eyes dancing with anticipation.

The wallet in question actually only held stones with different kanji set into them, symbolizing balance, unity, and other such things that were important principles to a Taoist. He was even poorer than most, having lived most of his life under those at the shrine and trying to learn to be in balance within himself and to learn the wisdom of the masters. So far he was doing alright with that, and he was happy, but alone.

The strange young man lurked in the shadows of the trees, reaching down to snatch the wallet from behind the monk just as he turned, still barely clad as he was. However, said orphan wasn't entirly sure how good a look he got at him, having taken off in a mad dash as he was spotted.

The young man turned a corner, panting, out of breath, and verry pleased that he had made a clean get away this time. Many marks, scars mostly, hinted that other lootings hadn't gone as well, though most of his scars were deep within, and under his clothes, where no one but the inflictor had ever seen.

His fingers hurriedly opened the wallet, shaking the contents to the ground, and pausing as he gazed baffeledly at the loot. "S-stones...."

Sasayaki sighed and turned fully, putting his hands on his hips and frowning. Taking a small sarong off the place he'd left his robe to dry, he tied it around his waist, the material falling down to his ankles as he slipped on sandals. Walking carefully and following the unmistakable prints, he soon found the boy and reached around, taking the leather wallet from his fingers. "These are important to me." he said quietly, crouching down and gathering the stones.

He turned quickly to see the body that belonged to the voice, but probably shouldn't have. Because at that moment, with the monk crouching and the kid looking up, the twos lips met, eyes widening as he pushed backward swiftly, wiping his lips hurriedly as he cried out.

"What's your problem monk?! Why did you... ah..."

Sasayaki pressed a hand over his own mouth, closing his eyes and shaking his head. He'd never kissed anyone before, and kissing a boy was certainly out of balance. Sighing, he stood up. "You did it." he muttered, tightening the string on his wallet and putting it around his wrist. "If you're hungry, come back to the shrine." he muttered, turning and walking away. He needed to go and think.

He muttered some less than appropriate things under his breath before turning in the opposite direction and skulking off, no money, yet another hungry night. But he still felt odd about the 'kiss' as unwanted as it was, it felt odd now, and his cheeks blushed with red as he thought on it, pressing his fingers to his lips, looking down at the baggy clothes covering his arms.

His long fingers pulled up the bottom of his shirt, revealing many deep scars that ran down his waist to his inner thigh. He sighed heavily and sunk down into a corner, thinking over the monks offer. Food. How he longed for it...

The Taoist made his way back to the shrine, also running his fingers over his lips and sighing at the odd feeling that seemed to linger there from the unbidden lips that had fallen there. "What on Earth.." he didn't want to think about this, but it was hard not to. The boy had been there, watching him as he washed his robes and in his lack clothing.. It made him blush as he went back to the shrine, sighing as he clutched the stones.

Night fell over the land, blanketing the sky with a soft darkness, speckled with the purest of stars. Only the lights of the shrines and the occasional household burned in the darkness. Candles placed here and there in gardens, making small lamps along the main road.

His feet carried him tiredly down the well trauden path, stumbling here and there, shuffeling his feet from the lack of strength. His arms hung heavily at his sides, tacky liquid dripping down his thin arms, blood flowing from a flesh wound inflicted hours earlier when he returned with no pay.

The shrine came into a blurry veiw, his eyes struggling to focus as he pushed himself to get there, somewhere safe... somewhere he could stay until he healed... "P-please..." He stuttered as he collapsed just out of reach of the steps, his body drained of all energy, a dark stain on his sleeve, a new one appearing on the pure ground.

Sasayaki found him, carefully picking him up and bringing him inside the shrine. He and a few others that lived in the place cleaned up the boy's arm and bandaged it. Sasayaki stayed up making some soup for when the boy properly woke up again, knowing that he would need some nourishment. There was plenty of vegetables in it, and they'd even been able to get some beef to make stew out of, which the rest of them would be eating later on the next day.

The boy looked up, smelling the food, but wanting nothing to do with it. It hurt him, thinking of what would happen to him if he ever found out. He couldn't accept charity, he hadn't earned it, nor had he stolen it, so he simply couldn't take it.

With what little strength he had, he rolled over on his side, away from the man's face. His heart ached more than the deep slice in his arm. His eyes glanced across the room, taking in the small details around him, though all he could think of whas that one unwanted kiss. It bothered him to remember, so he brushed the thought away, closing his eyes and attempting to drift back into sleep.

"T-thank.. you... for helping me..."

The man sighed and placed a hand on the boy's shoulder, leaning over gently. "You need to eat, you lost too much blood." He said carefully, setting the bowl down in front of him and sighing. The boy needed to eat, he could tell that just from looking at him, and there was no way of knowing what was under the clothing other than what they'd seen cleaning his arm. "You're underfed."
