For the record, I'm not jealous, never have been, never will be. I'm a weird sort of person who thinks animated women are better looking than real ones, so I don't care where real girls shower there affections. I do however, wonder why so many think Spike is so sexy and great.
Is it how he looks? Being over 40 and still built is a great feat I'll admit (I belive the actor who plays him is over 40, or at least over 30). But don't forget that he's still OVER 40. I think his ungodly bony face structure may be a giveaway.
Is it the personality? Because if slaughtering people was the socially acceptable thing to do, I would have laid waste to Dallas years ago (hate that city). "But he changed" you say? after he got his chip, Dru fed him a guy she just killed, and he ate, after which he chains Buffy and Dru up and starts threatening her to love him. First thing he does when he thinks his chip is deactivated in s6 is find a helpless victim. And of course, there was the attempted rape. After he gets his soul, he only spends a few weeks in the basement, insane over what he's done...not to the people he killed, but the rape thing. Because rape is SO much worse than murder right? When he finally "reforms" completely, he still keeps the jacket of the slayer he killed and beats up her son who ::gasp:: wanted to avenge her.
He's a pathetic, worthless, murderous b*****d who deserves a painful and slow death, not sympathy from fangirls who think he's just misunderstood. Dying to save the world SHOULD have killed him, and it should have hurt bad, even if he was doing the right thing. I for one loved seeing Illyria dust him, at least while it lasted, on Angel.
Speaking of Angel, now there's the guy who deserves fangirls. Yes he was a very evil b*****d as Angeles, but when he gets his sould back at least he understands he needs to repent and start doing the right thing.

Oh so its alright for Angel to do bad things as a Vamp, but not Spike hu? Oh and yes he did do bad things, so did Angelus(sp?) but aparantly for you its all good right? Wood triyed to kill Spike to avange his mother, i get that, but he still tryed to kill him. And that to me makes Spike justified to protect himself.
So hes a little crude, but come on its who he is now. He HAS a personality unlike Angel whos always depressed about something. I don't hate Angel but hes way to broody for me. And lets recap as you say attempt rape is awfull, so its ok for Angelus to play with Buffy, kill Jenny and completly destroy everyones lives as he walks. Spike never did that, killed a slayer, wow, she was gonna kill him anyway. Just leave Spike alone, yes i like him, and no its not because he looks good. Its because he has a great character, and alot more going for him than Angel.
Ok Angel fans, you can hurt me now. xd

I'm not the biggest fan of either Spike or Angel, but I can seen why other people are.
I think that I just preferred those two characters when they were evil, because I found them to be much more compelling. Angel's all repent-ey, and he should be, but he was more fun when he enjoyed snapping necks. 3nodding Same with Spike; he was a great character when he wanted to kill Buffy, and he showed some great depth when he helped Buffy so that he could save Dru, but I found him really boring after he got neutered, and in the last season it seemed like they started to back away from the development that they'd given him.
I mean, at the beginning of BtVS S7, he was insane, with a soul, and wanting to make up for his harsh deeds, but then he later went and took back the leather jacket and became all 'bad-a**' again; then on Angel he became neutered-Spike again. But, it was kind of the same way with Faith, I think that during Buffy's last season, they'd forgotten how to write her while the Angel writing crew gave her some great personality.

Am I the only person ever who likes both of them? sweatdrop
OK, I'll admit, they're both cute, to me anyway.
Angel...he spent such a long time suffering, and such a long time trying to redeem himself, and he hasn't given up. I love him for that.
Spike...he's just entertaining. You have to admit, he's entertaining. I love him beyond anything, I can't help liking the bad boys (I'm also a Draco Malfoy fan) but you have to admit, he is entertaining.
Or was, in the 2nd season and whenever he was on Angel...

I think generally most fangirls love Spike simply because he is the bad-boy-that-isn't-really-bad-anymore. It drives quite a few women wild to see a man who is supposedly 'evil' but who can care about just that one person... Taming the bad boy is something a lot of women seem to find incredibly sexy. Y'know, he hates everyone else, but deep down he's really just a good guy who can connect to that one special girl!
Which is really what they turned Spike into. And I admit, I tend to fall into that happy-fantasy world as well from time to time. However, as I have stated before, I much prefer and I really do love the old Spike who was actually evil in season two. I mean, do you remember how he teamed up with Buffy to save Dru? And then, at the end, when Angelus/Buffy are fighting and he's leaving with Dru he says something like, "My god! I think he's going to kill her!" (in reference to Buffy) Then he just shrugs and leaves anyway. heart
Note: I also love the Angelus of season two. heart I find the actual Angel rather bland.

It works better for him, in my mind, than it does for Angel, who I like *because* he's trying to redeem himself. My mind could just be really screwy though sweatdrop

Well I like Spike for many reasons. 1. before he was a vampire he was a bumbling idiot who wrote bad poetry, but his hart was in the right place and it was sweet.
2. After he became a vampire, he tortured people with railroad spikes, how cool is that??
3. Hes hot.
4. He's got a great voice (well James marsters does and he can play a guitar)
5. I like Spike because of how James Marsters portrays him. He said he was acting as if like somewhere deep inside Spike he liked Buffy all along.
6. and the leather coat, bad boy image helps a little.
7. He is Love's B****, and He's man enough to say it!!!!!

Am I the only one that likes neither of them? Even when I did like guys, I found nothing to like in their characters.. Spike, as mentioned, tends to be a muderous rampaging and in my opinion very ugly guy who attempts rape among other unattractive things. (he can be amusing, I'll give him that much, and he's got the accent..) With Angel, I can see more of why people would like him...dark mysterious, righteous, and semi-handsome. I also like his sense of humor, especially in Angel, but his pep-talks tend to get on my nerves. I also don't see whats to like in Spike, but to each their own.. if fangirls like him, by all means let them like him. Who doesn't want to be loved?

Ok, lets see if this makes sense.
I personally think girls find Spike's sense of humor, his wit and his personality more attractive, then his looks. (Being a guy and not gay, I can say Spike wasnt too good looking to me, his face looked like that of Skeletor. But to each his own.) His bad a** persona only intensified his character which in season 2, I think was at his peak. After season 4 and the chip, he kind of mellowed out and became more of a guy in there for wit and the good vampire factor. (A la Angel in seasons 1, part of 2, and 3 in Buffy.) In season 7 though, after Wood tried to kill him, we got our beloved Spike back, well most of him. All except the killing good guys part, but it was short lived as he died and went to Angel. So back to the girls...I think mostly its his personality in character rather than James himself, plus the whole bad boy/sensitive thing works.
As for Angel. I think its mostly the dark, mysterious, broody thing that does it for the girls. Angel/David was a pretty good looking guy, until he started gaining weight on the last seasons of Angel. The girls, I think mostly liked Angel for the way he never gave up, the way he wanted to redeem himself, his broody-ness sort to say. As I said in a thread of Buffys Perfect Guy, I think Angel is the most compelling character in the Buffy/Angel universe. He is so selfless and so damn near perfect that its hard not to like him. He left Sunnydale so Buffy wouldnt have to worry about him while she did her job, he gave up Conor in order to let him have a better life, he gave up his humanity after having it for a day so that he could still help others, and in the end, he signed away any chances to become human again after redeeming himself just to make a dent in the side of evil. He is a nice guy, a nice guy who can whoop a**. Angel is my favorite character, and I can see why girls do like him.
In closing, both vampires have their traits which girls are attracted to, but in the end only one gets Buffy, which I am sure would be Angel. So ladies you can have Spike because as we all know Buffy doesnt really love him, she just said it to make him happy.

Yeah, happy perfect dream world for girls. I forgot about that reason. When reality comes though, girls start to realize that those sorts of things rarely ever happen. Bad boys who just want to be bad are the same guys who beat their wives/make her work two jobs while they stay home and watch TV. Then they cry everynight thinking about how let down god old "Angel" and "Riley" who now live happy lives with their beatiful wife and kids.
