Well, everyone, I'd like to welcome you all to the new home of the guild. I'm sure you'll have notied the RP air that has come over my Vetinari posts, but fear not! There is still room for chatting, book discussion, and all your random ramblings.

This thread will essentially take over where the guild thread left off. Do anything here that you would have done in the old guild thread. Then again, if you feel like starting a discussion thread on a specific book, go ahead with that as well.

Just remember, though: Keep the random chat/discussion here! The rest of the guild forum is for Discworld topics, RP, and sundry other Pratchett things. We only need one chat thread, let this be it.

That said, I'd like to introduce you to your L-Space GGN Crew:

Kamikire
Valgav
chotto
Yuzure
Pockyfille
(with regards to the AM Times only)

And of course, myself. If you see a rule broken somewhere here, just PM one of us, we'll handle it.

Didn't quite understand whether you wanted book discussion/questions in here, but anyway...

I'm not as big a Discworld fan as some others around here, having only been converted a few months ago, and having only a handful of books under my belt. But I've just finished "Moving Pictures", and was wondering what other people thought of it. I found the talking dog (what was his name... started with a "G"...) hilarious, but for some reason, I found that as a whole, it wasn't as good as some of Terry's other stuff.

The dog in question was probably Gaspode, but its been a while since I last read Moving Pictures.

As for Moving Pictures, I agree that its not quite on the same level as the other books, Pyramids and Small Gods are somewhat similar in that respect as well. Though they all add to the setting in their own ways, so are still worth reading a couple of times.

Hey, dudes! Awesome news! I'm subscribed on this Discworld news letter, and I found out that they're making a Discworld Movie! It's going to be called "Troll Bridge" and although it looks rather low budget, I'm still excited. It's going to have COHEN! YAY! It's done by snowgum films.

For book discussions, you may start a new thread, but ONLY if you plan to go in depth into the conversation. Deep reading into the book, that sort of thing. I forgot to make a rules entry, so I'll go do that now. biggrin

Damn you Pockyfille!!

But in a nice way. wink Yeah, becuase of you, I went out and bought Going Postal. I may have a review to supply to the AM-Times if you like then.

I wonder if Going Postal is going to be similar to The Truth? I'm beginning to notice a pattern in the Pterry books. Not that that's a bad thing (how many original plots can there possibly be, after all), but the plot seems similar from the synopsis I read. I'm still ordering the book on payday, regardless.

I was a bit disappointed in Monstrous Regiment, and I wonder if anyone else was? There weren't really any surprises- and I would have liked it if even one of the characters was what they were pretending to be. Vimes seemed out of place there, too.

Hmm . . . Troll Bridge is one of PTerry's short stories I managed to find in an anthology. How long of a movie is it being made into? It didn't strike me as something that could be stretched out very far.

Yeah that's right.

Moving Pictures is much more satirical than his other stuff I've read. I don't know any other of his that so obviously looks at something in society and takes the piss out of it (ie. in this case Hollywood).

I've been reading Pratchett since I was too young to actually get most of the humour thanks to my mother and other crazed family members. Because of this some of them I've read a long time ago while others fairly recently... I wonder if anyone else here would be interested in a sort of group reading of any of the books... Mostly I want the excuse to read Terry Pratchett rather than uni stuff ^__^

If I weren't working on Going Postal right now, I would... Unless that's one available for this. wink

What do you mean by "group reading"? Sort of sounds like a whole group of people sitting around a campfire reading out loud religious propaganda stare
PostPosted: Mon Oct 04, 2004 11:59 am

Hmm the Terry Pratchett campfire propaganda group... xp I mean't something more alnong the lines of a book club everyone endevours to read the same book over a period of time and gets to discuss it for their troubles... It prevents those moments when you blurt out what is happening in the book to friends or random by standers because you are enjoying it so much.

I could handle something like that. Seeing as I've yet to read most of his books. Seems though that most people around here have already read all his books, (at least once each).
