"Easy on now, hun... Don't get too close t'the water, see?" The roan mare muttered to herself as she pulled up some grass. Lingering about the oasis was the one thing she lived for. Other than running of course. Horse like her had been born to run. And without running, she'd sure as hell die away slowly.
Charna chanced a peek at herself in the reflection of the cool water. She snorted in disgust at the pink muzzle and blue eyes. "See wot 'appens when you go so close, don't you? You get mad at y'self. So why do it, right?" She muttered once more.

The small stallion was just making his way from his new caretaker's yurt, something about that dapple mare in there just made him uneasy; made him look over his shoulder if you will. And it was always when that young girl, the caretaker, came near either of them. Well, Balius wasn't to worried about that right now, he had been broken in long before and was pretty calm around two-leggers. The dun peared through oddly colored emerald eyes, that oasis was here somewhere, he could smell it; soon he'd be able to dip his muzzle in those cool waters.

"Wot d'you say, hun, have we got comp'ny?" Charna asked herself as she shut her eyes against the glare of the sun and her reflection to drink. "Why, yesss, it rather seems as if it does, does it not?" She answered, lifting her muzzle and opening her eyes.

Balius was certainly making good timing, those small but sturdy legs of his just couldn't stop moving, and he didn't have the mind to bring his hooves to a screeching halt... that is, until he spotted a dark mare at the oasis. Huh, well, he could share right? Rather then sneak up and scare her, possibly, the stallion nickered his greeting to this stranger as he advanced. "Even'n ma'am", he said casually, the stallion much older then his nervous yurt mate counterpart.

Charna blinked as she squinted at him. "Wot say we say hello, then, hun? If'n he's not goin' ta." She paused. "Might strange, ain't 'e, m'arm? Is 'e even a horse? Mebbe 'es a donkay or wotnot." She replied to herself, shaking her head in bewilderment. "Well, we say 'ello, then, and we find out." The first replied.
Charna cocked her head carefully. This... horse-like being... was small. Small enough to be one of her old master's Arabs. She frowned. He could be a spy.. "You there, donkeyhorsethingy!" She called out at him. An answering tone snapped at herself. "Aw, come on, be nice to him! He may be a nice donkayhorse!" Charna shook her head, frowning inwardly at being interrupted. "You there! Are ye a spy?"

Being as polite as he was the stallion decided to leave her be when he heard her talking to herself, guessing she had much on her mind. Reaching the water's edge no more then ten yards away from this mystery mare he was about to lower his lips and sip up the sweet nector of this oasis, among the heat of- Wait a minute. Did that mare just snap at him? Donkeyhorse?! Giving a bit of a quizical look through the corner of his emerald eyes Balius lifted his head once more from his sweet release to glance at the mare. Though his eyes were ever kind in their return. Spy? Not that I know of. Why? he questioned. He was willing to look past the donkeyhorse comment for now, depending on if she took it any further.
MoonRazor
"Ohreally, see tha's the kinda thing a spy would say, now isn't it?" Charna retorted with a roll of her eyes. "Don't mind him, hun, he can't do much t'you now." She tilted her head. "Well, wot are ye doin' down here, then?" She challenged, drawing her head up.

Obviously he had done something very wrong to this mare for her to call him and accuse him of such things, but what? What on earth did he possibly do to her? Extending his neck just barely the stallion took a closer look at her for the first time, did he know her from somewhere. Ignoring the tones and challenges of her movements he snorted slightly, shaking his head and sending an unruly forelock over one emerald eye. "I can honestly say I've never seen you before, and I just came down for a drink", still as collected as ever Balius flicked an idle tail behind him; his muzzle level as he kept light eye contact.
MoonRazor
"Huh. 'Jus' came down for a drink', he sez. Oh, but we know better, don't we, hun? We know jus' what he was supposed to be doin', of course we do." She rolled her eyes again and scowled.
"Never seen you before, m'arm. S'what he said! We never seen no donkeythings like that 'un neither, have we?" Charna shook her head, an amused smile playing along her muzzle as she responded.
"H'of course not, hun, not at some donkeything. But h'as a horse, perhaps, yes."

The poor stallion was getting more confused by the minute, he couldn't quite follow just what she was trying to say but he flicked his ears back slightly with her scowl. Was she undermining him? Threatening him? And he couldn't say he was partial to the donkeyhorse comment of before. Giving up on polite conversation and not trusting himself to speak further on an issue he didn't understand he shook himself from muzzle to tail. "Don't know about you, but I need to relax", and with a bob of his head the stallion exused himself. Turning slowly back to the water Balius lapped up the water, but stared at his reflection for a moment. Sighing heavily he looked like he was about to turn and leave, until a grunt came from him as his legs shot forward like an unruly colt, plunging into the water. For the first time since they've met he smirked, allowing his legs to fold as he was partially submerged in the water.
MoonRazor
"Ey, you! Not done, now am I?" She snapped, following him to the water. She stayed away from seeing her reflection but stood a little ways off, watching him curiously.
"Y'see wot 'appens when y'don't take control of the situation!"
Charna snorted and shook her mane out. She shied away at the sudden splash of water, a whinny ripping from her throat as she danced away awkwardly. "What was'at fer, eh?" She narrowed her eyes, but it suddenly seemed like a good idea.
Cautiously, she waded into the water until it reached her knees. The water was refreshing... She kicked out from the shallow water, until all but her head was submerged. She swam in a small circle with a laugh. "Huh, tis cool, tis."

He may have been up there in years but he wasn't a lifeless old bump on the log. No sirry bob. He did miss his old home though, back in the states, he remembered when he use to do this back in the day, back when grass and water was plentiful. Perhabs that's what possessed him to dive into the oasis, perhabs it was his memories of this that drove him to such an extreme. He was trying to ignore the confusing mare and her voice... that is until he heard the ripples of water. Glancing back he snorted slightly, well, maybe he wasn't the only one that needed a dip? "Yes, and fun", he nickered. Twisting his ears forward once more he stayed in the shallows where he could continue to lay down without worry.
MoonRazor
"Indeed." Charna bobbed her head, nodding as well as she could when she was neck-high in water, a fleeting smile flashing upon her muzzle. "Perhaps y'ain't no spy, then, eh? Spies don' like water none." She said solemnly. And perhaps it was better to go with simple philosophies such as hers. Her mind worked in a simple way. And sometimes, it was good to be simple.

Balius, though relieved she wasn't calling him a spy anymore, sensed something else. Something only his fleeting youth could tell him; that solemn tone. "No I can't be a spy, I love water to much", the stallion assured her, that voice of his never breaking from the calm he had acquired when the colt in him had been bucked and reared out through the years. He watched for a moment before continuing, not daring to stick his muzzle where it didn't belong though. "My name is Balius, might I know yours?" he asked, again dipping his muzzle to drink.
MoonRazor
Oh, she knew he wasn't a spy, but she still hesitated. "Mine? Eh... Charna." She said, making her way toward the shallow water for a bit of a rest. Who knew paddling could be so tiring?
"Naww! Y'just blew it, m'arm, ye did!" She muttered to herself absently. Then she shook her head to clear the voice. She kind of felt like talking to this stallion now, and she wasn't quite sure she wanted the Voice interrupting her.

Setting his gaze steady once more he blinked during her hesitation before catching her name. An interesting name he might have inquired about, but at the moment he was more interested in this place in gernal. "Nice to meet ya. Can't say I cared much for the donkeyhorse thing, but it's better then alot of other things I've been called", he chuckled slightly under his breath. Because of his size he often time had to prove himself more then once. "How can you stand the heat here anyways?" he asked, keeping his ears forward and alert. Though he knew he would need to get out soon and dry off, it just occured to him he might get in trouble for this.

"Twas your fur wot got me." Charna said with a smile. She'd never seen such a horse as he before, and it made her really wonder if, somewhere way back, maybe a kangaroo had been mixed into his bloodlines.
She shrugged at his question, inwardly fighting to keep from letting the Voice out. But... "Ah, tha's not a question, now is it? It's just a state of survival, donkeyhorse."
Charna winced. "Sorry." She said, apologizing. "I was born here. I've lived here all my life. I probably would wonder how anyone survives in cold."

At the mention to his hide he got curious, craning his neck around to struggle and look at his partially exposed rump that was still out of the water. Huh, well... his hide was a bit odd he had to admit. "Well, can't argue with what the eye can see", he grinned, feeling a bit more at ease now that she was smiling instead of snapping. Though he had to c**k his head slightly when she once more called him a donkeyhorse, excusing it with a bob of his head when she apolized. It was odd, and Balius had never talked to a horse such as she, but it made it all the more interesting. "Wow, that might explain it," he agreed, and smirked a little when she mentioned the cold. "Blankets. Nice warm blankets and a hot mash every once and while if you get to cold."
MoonRazor
"Huh. Well, I don't 'ave firsthand experience, but I see it in a lotta import 'orses. Firs' they go through this period where they step outside the yurt 'nd they sweat a lot and have ta roll around in this 'ere sand a lot, but it passes, and then they get less sweaty when they gotta go outside." She shrugged. "All in the livin', I s'ppose."
ropin and riden
"I've seen that before, but I mostly like to stay in my yurt. Next time I got out I might as well try the roll'n, maybe that'll help?" he thought about it some. True he coat wasn't as dark as others, but his back did happen to get pretty hot when he did go outside. But he was starting to feel a bit of restlessness in his legs and shifted slightly, trying to gain his footing in the wet sands beneath him. Slipping at first, and dunking his chest into the water, Balius struggled slowly at first until he was finally standing. "Don't know about you, but I better get out of here before I get pruney", that was a joke on his end, for as far as he knew horses didn't get pruney. But, with a cautious persision the stallion backed his way out of the water, once again feeling the heat as it soak into his hide. It was as if he had never went for a swim, for he guessed it was just that hot outside if it started drying him right away.

Charna smiled, following him out of the water. It was just as well, she wasn't especially fond of swimming about. She shook the dripping water from her fur. "Y'know, I've never really had conversation with another horse before, other than... you know." She said. Already, in his company, she could feel the Voice gradually subsiding, and she could feel that it was easier to watch her tongue and keep the Voice from slipping out. She knew change, at the very least, but the Voice, after having been molded out of years of verbal abuse, did not.
ropin and riden
If it was one thing Balius prided himself on, it was his calm and endeavur to be patient with others. He really didn't have much of a temper, nor mistrust; just a simple pleasantness. "Conversation can be a great thing with the right type of horse, that is. I've had other conversations before, not good ones I might add", he stopped himself from going into a ramble, the fella really not wanting to get into that right now. But he bobbed his head to the last part of her sentence, he had her talking to herself before, but he hadn't thought much of it. A horse could get bored, right? His hide wasn't much for dripping, rather he allowed the particles of water to evaperate off him, hoping it's cooling effect would last longer. "But it is nice to talk with you Charna", he added after a bit, remembering how uneasy his yurt-mate had made him feel earlier.
MoonRazor
She nodded in agreement to his last comment, deep in thought. All she really wanted was to have horses to talk to, so she wouldn't have to rely on herself to keep from going insane. She wanted to quash the Voice. Forever.

Slowly dipping his muzzle to what little vegitation was offered near his hooves the stallion lipped at a few shoots of sun dried grass, perked ears staying alert and listening to whatever little movements this mare would make. He realized she seemed to have a lot on her mind, like his earlier thought when he saw her talking to herself, so Balius lifted his muzzle to ask a final question. "Do you visit this oasis often?" he knew it was getting late, and his new caretaker would not be pleased if he was not back soon.
MoonRazor
"'Often' would be understating it, I guess..." She said. "Most of the time, I'm either training for the big race, or I'm here. And how long does it take to run around? So..." She shrugged. In truth, this oasis had almost become like her home. She spent little time in the yurt, where all the big and mighty stallions, although not small, were still smaller than herself. It had become so that Azhra would only come to look for her in the oasis, and rarely brought her back to the yurt for the night.
