I Love X Japan, hide is one of the greatest and most unique guitarists ive ever heard, and Yoshiki is an awsome drummer.
so what does everyone else think?

Personally, I think they're overrated and that Yoshiki is an egomaniac.

I love X Japan, personally; they were the second Jrock band I got into (after the Pillows). ^^

I have to agree with Cello. X Japan were really just another bad hair metal band in an era that pandered to the uninspired yet attractive. Like a Johnny's band with a bit more attitude and less talent, Japan leapt upon these idiots like they were the last transport from a dying planet when they were really nothing special. What's worse is that almost all of their foreign fanbase are nothing more than twelve year olds attracted to dead-band-member syndrome.
Anyway, if I wanted to sit through twenty minute piano solos consisting mostly of nonsensical banging on the keys, I'd go listen to Lizst. At least then I'm guaranteed some talent.

X Japan is whack. hide is overrated, pata is a better guitarist, and I will give Yoshiki some drum credit but he sucks at writing music. Their music might be cooler if they didn't have a singer who is castrated.

i bought a disk, and listened...and i wasn't as impressed as i thought i would be. they're nice, but i don't go out of my way to listen to them.

I don't know much about drumming, but Yoshiki's drumming seems so overdone. But I'm also not really into percussion...unless it's percussion sounds I can make on my cello *slap* *bweeeeeng*

Honestly, I don't see why Yoshiki is so revered.
Double bass pedal is nothing special. Hell, I've heard drumming of that same level from shitty punk bands.

OMG CELLO. The other day at the Melt-Banana show, there was this guy doing INSANE things to his bass in this other band. He was beating the s**t out of it. Drumming on it with screwdrivers and whatnot. I took a pretty long video of it too, if you wanna see.

Okay, I watched the clip.....I wasn't really impressed, he was just messing with the peg to tune the string up and down. I just don't understand what kind of musical effect he was going for. So was that Melt-Banana?
