"So I don't care if I'm going to be ripped to shreds, I'm still going to take Sasuke back from Orochimaru!!" -Naruto (ch. 303)
...One year later...
Ironic.
Good effort brings great fortune, as they say. Naruto gave all of his effort (maybe even more) into the mission of saving Sasuke. However, all of that effort went to waste. When Naruto, Sakura, Sai, and Yamato went back to the Otogakure with a new plan to save Sasuke, they depressingly found out that Orochimaru was now the occupant of Sasuke's body. Sasuke was gone; completely gone.
This was quite devastating for both Naruto and Sakura... To anyone who cared, it was shocking, if not devastating.
Shikamaru, Ino, Chouji... Neji, TenTen, Lee... Shino, Kiba, Hinata... Gaara...
Everyone who believed in Naruto felt bad for him. But, you know, when your friends fall into depression, you can't help but feel bad for someone you love, be it kinship, friendship, or crush/love. They didn't lose hope, even if Naruto did. Naruto watched their backs, now they have to watch his.
And now, Orochimaru plans to use Sasuke's body and get rid of Itachi. Itachi is a problem, so it the rest of the Akatsuki. But since Sasuke's power, chakra, and Sharingan are with Orochimaru, Orochimaru has the upper hand.
Konoha isn't under attack now since Orochimaru's plans are to exterminate Akatsuki. Konoha also has the same plans... But the two nations aren't allied.

A calm day it was in the hidden village of leaf; daily routines and chores were being carried out in the main streets. The weather was clear and warm; not a cloud in sight. Most would have said it was a pleasant day.
One orange clad boy, however, did not find it pleasant at all. He sat on a tall spire, watching the villagers go by. Every now and then, he dropped a pebble, watching as it hit the ground with a somewhat satisfying 'clunk'. To him, every day was a dark, miserable one. It was one of the only occasions where Iruka-sensei's treat to ramen was turned down.
It was the week after Naruto was brought back to the village from the mission that led to his emotional all time low. The first few days, he was in the hospital, recieving care for severe injuries from old lady Tsunade. He couldn't recall how he got back, for what he had witnessed during the mission kept coming back to haunt him. He couldn't even tell if he was dreaming or not, for they, too, were haunted with the same image.
The image of the death of his best friend, Sasuke.
He was truly gone, dead. The snake Orochimaru now had his body, and everything else was wiped away. His thoughts, his memories, his values, his heart. Nothing of Sasuke remained inside the shell that Orochimaru now occupied.
Did Naruto hate Sasuke for what he did? Of course he did. Sasuke was an impatient, selfish b*****d. In Naruto's eyes, Sasuke had failed role as the avenger completely. An avenger isn't supposed to sacrifice himself to kill his target, he is supposed to find some way to do it and live on. Orochimaru never gave HIM power; it was the complete opposite.
Sasuke's abilities went to waste, all so that he could just have the satisfaction of killing Itachi. Not that he would have that satisfaction any more.
If one were to argue that Sasuke had the need to do the task alone, he had failed that as well. It won't be him that kills Itachi, it will be Orochimaru. If Sasuke cooperated with the shinobi in Konoha, together, their combined efforts would have destroyed Akatsuki.
Yet, Sasuke failed to see all of that.
There was no point in getting angry at Sasuke any more, however. He was gone. Even if Naruto felt a sudden burning anger, it was quickly doused by the feeling of hopelessness. He felt as if each stone he dropped from the spire was some his hopes and promises. Everything fell, there was no hope to be found anywhere.
People had visited him in the hospital often, telling him that it would be okay, that everything was alright. That he tried his best.
It obviously wasn't enough though.
Naruto's big talk about how he would bring back Sasuke even at the cost of his own life was hollow. No matter what he did, how hard he tried, Sasuke would not, and could not come back. It was too late.
All the promises, assurances and vows he had made were broken; he had failed them all. Naruto left the hospital early, for the feeling of guilt was just too much. Every time someone who he had promised came in, especially Sakura-chan, made him feel worthless. He was, for the first time, at a loss of words. There was nobody he wanted to talk to, and ironically wished just to be left alone.

Soft easy strides were made along the dirt covered path. This kunoichi's short silver hair swayed ever so slightly with her graceful movements as she made her way from the Hidden Cloud Village; her home. She needed an escape, an escape from her imprisonment or so she called it. Sure she loved and stayed loyal to her village, she was just caged in. With only herself to look out for she tended to get rather bored just doing paper work, simply waiting and hoping for something exciting to happen. She loved to be in the middle of it, to feel her heart race when her life was put in a dangerous situation. Thats how she wanted to live, all she wanted was to be useful to somebody.
As she descended further through the woods towards a place she couldnt exactly say she was familiar with. All she's heard was stories from the villagers saying both positive and negatives comments about it. She didn't really form an opinion bout the place for she really couldn't give a s**t otherwise. By using the escape of a mission she decided to delay that in order to go where she wanted. Sure it was risky and troublesome on her part, but it was necessary.
The Cloud Shinobi's gray orbs scanned calmly her surroundings, each shrubery at a time. Being a highly trained shinobi of her village you should always expect the worst no matter where your heading. The smallest wrong move could set off a chain reaction.
A soft sigh escaped the lips of Namie. She stood up at the height of 5'5 and rank of ANBU. She found that she was talented in the arts of assassination jobs at an early age or so her peers say. Through her past, Namie turned out to be the complete opposite of what her younger form was. When she was just a small girl, Namie was carefree and full of laughter. Always smiling and wanting to be free and help people. At the age of 5 she decided right there and then she wanted to be a medical nin to save lives of her fellow ninja. One night changed the whole course of her life, her dreams, and even herself. She basically was...lost.
She outstretched her slender arms as she cracked her back. She took a small step forward from the position up in the tree and landed on the ground level seconds later. She crumbled up the small note that she had resting in the palm of her hands and tore it to pieces. She waited a few seconds for a strong small gust of wind to happen before opening her palm. She watched the tiny pieces fly away as a small smile creeped its way to her lips.
There were times she wondered how different her life would be right now if she has remain unchanged from that one event. Would she be a medical nin like she swore to her mother and father when she was 5? Would innocent laughter escape her lips like it used to? To Namie Now, these futile questions had only one answer. 'Those impatent dreams and who I once were are dead. This...is who I am now. There is no other future for me...' Short silver hair flowed freely behind Namie as she headed towards her destination;Konoha.

((This includes both my made-up character and Tenten. Hope that's okay.))
At times, Tenten really hated her friend.
"Susu! Quit that!"
Tiansu Mikano crossed her arms across her chest and scowled. "Tenten..." she whined. "Why won't you train with me?"
"Because I'm working," Tenten snapped, adjusting the weapons pouch at her hip. "Gai just called and says that we're training later."
Susu frowned. "Can't I come?"
"No."
"You'd rather train with your thick-brows teammate and that ice cube than me?" Susu asked jokingly.
"Maybe." Tenten started off in the direction of where her sensei and teammates would be waiting. Susu followed.
"Come on, Tenten!"
She didn't want Susu bothering her any longer. "Oh, fine," Tenten finally relented. "But you'd better stay out of the way, or else Neji's probably gonna Gentle-Fist you into next week."
Susu grinned. "No worries."
And that attitude is exactly what makes me have a bad feeling about this...

A young looking woman sat hunced over at her desk. Fine filed and painted nails drummed on the hard wood of her desk as she tried to do her paperwork but her mind just wasn't on it.
She didn't know the Uchiha boy that well, but he was afterall one of the Uchiha clan, and most of all Naruto's friend.
Sitting back in her chair she sighed and her brown eyes shot up to the ceiling as she began thinking.
How could Orochimaru keep doing that? Jumping from body to body to live forever. And taking one of the villagers from Konoha to do it.
All she could think about was Naruto and how depressed he was since Sasuke was 'gone'.
At times she felt like crying because for some reason, the word 'dead' or 'dying' brought back memories she didn't want to ever see again. But it wasn't for Dan or Nawaki, It was actually for Sasuke, and how everyone missed him.
Pushing her blonde bangs out of her face, she moved her hands down to the armrests of the chair and closed her eyes trying to push the thoughts out of her mind, maybe thinking up a solution.
Opening one eye slightly she looked at her desk which looked like it was sagging under all the weight of the mounds of paperwork that were all around her desk. Most of it was overdue by atleast two months. Maybe she could pawn off all this work on someone?
She got up out of her chair and stretched. Her tunic was still opened up at the top like it had been for many years, showing off the clevage, and she did have a lot.
Walking to the window she unlatched the lattic and threw open the window letting in some air. It was a very nice day, but not even the birds were chriping as if they were mourning too.
Now that Sasuke was gone, Itachi was more than likely going to be killed by Orochimaru, if he kept to his words. And was that the last of the Uchiha clan? The last carriers of the sharingan, the last of the most powerful clan of Konoha?
This thought disturbed Tsunade, and was most likely going to dawn on a few more people disturbing them as well.
For some reason, she blamed herself. But what could you do when you had no idea where Orochimaru's hideout was and no leads to where he was? It wasn't only until the end did they get the slightest hint where he was, and it was too late.
Reaching up she rubbed at her eyes and muttered."I'm getting too old for this...." Stretching she groaned a little bit and decided to go find Naruto. Walking out of her office, not bothering to lock it, she headed outside.
~~~~~~~~~~
A young shinobi sat outside of her house. Her long black hair fell over her shoulders. Yellow eyes with slit-like pupils stared at the ground. The sun reflected off of her very pale skin.
She had just gotten word of the Uchiha boy not to long ago and this affected her as well even though she had only run into him a few times while talking with Kakashi.
She could only feel what his teammates were going through and what the ones who cared about him were going through as well.
'Damn that Orochimaru.' She thought venomously and her fists clenched.
How could one man cause so much pain, sorrow, and vengance?
He was even worse than Uchiha Itachi in her eyes. Only because Orochimaru had his assassians murder her parents.
"He is going to pay for this..."She muttered and stood up. Her long black hair flowing behind her as she walked.
Her top was wraps with a fishnet shirt. The ninja pants she wore, were black with the wrap with the shuriken holder on her left leg. The Konoha headband was situated around her neck. The vest they normally wore was inside her house, she only wore it on missions.
"I can't believe that Uchiha boy..."Stretching, she cracked her neck and went to find someone to comfort. Maybe Haruno Sakura? She knew how much Sasuke meant to her.
Most people walked past the girl as she leaned against the corner of the building. No one really seemed to notice her, but her presence was never that conspicuous in the first place.
Frankly, she wasn't paying attention to any of them, either. Her gaze was fixed on a tall spire a few blocks away. Had anyone noticed her staring, they would have seen that the shape of a boy could be made out sitting on it. It was at him that she was more precisely staring.
She still distinctly remembered the buzz that had spread through the village a week earlier when his team had returned from their mission. From what she had heard, Uchiha Sasuke was dead.
She really hadn't known him very well. She had seen him at the academy and at the Chuunin exams a few years prior, but he appeared as quiet and reserved as she was. It was very shocking to hear that such a powerful ninja was gone, but her greatest concern lay with his former teammate that she was now watching.
Hinata had been fond of Naruto since their days in the ninja academy. He had always been a source of motivation for her with his larger than life charisma and optimism. No matter what the circumstances, he never gave up. Now seeing him so depressed and so cut off from the rest of the world was very hard for her.
She had been told he was in the hospital after his return, but she couldn't bring herself to go and visit him, nor could she bring herself to move from her vantage point now. She couldn't think of anything to say to him, at least not without turning a very interesting shade of red and stammering most of her words. As much as he inspired her, actually being near Naruto was not very comfortable for her.
So she stood her ground and watched.
The Toad Hermit had been away from Konoha when the news first reached Konoha. However, he knew that it happened since he found out about it while spying on Akatsuki. He wasn't entirely shocked because he knew this was going to happen because Sasuke and Orochimaru were just like each other when it came to their lust for power. Well, at least one half of him believed that. The other half of him felt bad for Naruto because Jiraiya actually believed that Naruto could do it. Who couldn't after all that dangerous and exhausting training they both endured for two and a half years?
"It's not that much of a waste," he said thoughtfully to himself when he casually walked through the gates. He put up his hand and waved it a couple times when the two gaurds at the gate bowed and greeted him. He would have said something like "Hey," but his mind was wandering. The old man was considering whether or not he should find Naruto and tell him, "You should have listened to me before and forgot about Sasuke." It would be harsh... and if he were young and still being depressed over losing Orochimaru, he knew he wouldn't like it if someone told him something like that.
Still... Whether or not he will or will not say that, Naruto is still young and needs some reassurance because Naruto is most likely basking in grief right now. There wasn't anyone else to give him a man-to-man talk with the same experiences, so who better to do it, right?
Jiraiya glanced away for a second, and stopped seeing a couple of girls walking together. Chatting together. Giggling together. Being hot together! His loose jaw tightened into a grin.
"I don't see Naruto anywhere... So, hmm, maybe I'll see him when I least expect it! Yeah."
Orochimaru sat back in his seat, still getting used to his new body. What had been so amazeing was how quickly Sasuke had submitted once he heard Orochimarus plans, and promises.... As he had never thought of lieing or decieving his new host, he would keep his word.... Itachi first, Akatsuki, and Konoha would be left alone.... Until they became a threat.... Orochimaru chuckled softly at the sight of the orange haired nuisance when he discovered that Orochimaru was inside his old friends body.... Pity had been wiped away over many years.... He smiled softly and slowly rose, his yakuta flowing around him, his purple rope bow comeing out to it's full length. Now seems as good a time as ever to get started.... he mused to himself, his eyes glowing darkly as the sharingan activated on his command....
Naruto was now completely oblivious to the outside world, trapped in his own dark thoughts. The thoughts were racing at a painful pace, and blocked out any light of hope there might have been. The future that Naruto knew indefinately was now clouded and blocked. He had no idea what he was going to do now. He wanted to beat this Itachi guy up for sure; he was the one that had caused all of this in the first place. The one who drove Sasuke into darkness. He was very indecisive and insecure at the moment however, something told him that Orochimaru should take care of it, to keep up his end of the bargain, but the other side of him kept urging to take the matter into his own hands. To avenge Sasuke.
He didn't particularly like the idea of going up against Orochimaru at all; he would not be able to kill him while he was in the image of Sasuke.
If old lady Tsunade requested it of him, he would do either; to go up against Akatsuki, or Orochimaru. Acting on his own accord had brought him all this pain in the first place, so he was willing to go with someone else's opinion for once.
The young looking woman known as Godaime Hokage, or Tsunade-hime walked up to Naruto's door.
Sighing, she knew she had to talk to him but maybe the wounds were too fresh? But anyway he needed comforting wether it be her, Jiraiya or anyone else. It just so happened she was there first, and for some things, she hated being first.
Using her knuckles and rapped on the door lightly. "Naruto." She said lightly."Naruto, are you home?" Her voice sounded sympathetic, wondering if the young, normally energetic boy, would even answer the door the way he was feeling. If he didn't, Jiraiya would most likely just barg into his house and talk with him.
Tsunade just stood there and waited. Her arms crossed over her large breasts, her long pig tails layed on her back. Her brown eyes looked over the grain in the door, a few boys looked at her as they passed.
Since she had gotten a bit older, now fifty-three, she made herself look younger. Looking now as if she was in her late teens instead of early twenties. She liked looking around nineteen/twenty. But since she used her henge more she looked about sixteen in age, but an older sixteen.
"Please, Naruto. Open the door."She didn't mean to be so persistent, but she felt, as being the Hokage of the village was to comfort the villagers and ninjas when they lose someone.
Tsunade always thought 'To hell with not showing emotions' she actually thought it showed strength when you showed emotion instead of holding them inside.
----------------------
Looking around she spotted the white haired Sannin."Jiraiya-sama.."She called out, not very enthusiasticly.
Running over her hair swished behind her and she stopped right along side of him.
"I suppose you heard about the Uchiha boy?"
Knowing he was out on a mission to spy on the Akatsuki, she just kinda guessed since he went out a few other times.
Stratching the back of her neck she sighed."I can't believe that really happened...."Shaking her head she looked at the ground.
Jiraiya was just about to run after those pretty young things, but when he turned to do so, some other girl got in his way. Nami, hmm? Well, it didn't really matter because she was pretty cute herself (but not as cute as those two girls with the nice butts...). He took a step back and crossed his arms, looking down at her when she bowed her head to stare at her feet. He wanted to roll his eyes, but the old man refrained from doing that and just let out an irritated sigh. Jiraiya thought it was so evident that this was going to happen, but he guessed that some people were just a little too blind or needed more common sense. Or maybe, he added, Naruto was just that convincing. He smiled inwardly.
"It was kind of obvious that he would do that," he replied, looking just as unfazed as he did when he first found out about the whole catastrophe. "I don't really care, anyway."
His gaze was still glued on Nami, and he took a step backward, feeling a little too close to her. He wasn't bothered by it, but you know, if his hand mindlessly wandered over and touched something taboo on the woman's body. Heh heh heh. >:] Beautiful things, like roses and women, hurt if you touch them wrong.
"I wouldn't worry too much about Sasuke anymore because Konoha's safety is in check if Orochimaru assassinates all of the powerful ninja here."
Even though that won't happen for a while since Akatsuki is still a problem with Orochimaru... He kept a frown on his face. That Orochimaru... the only reason he had about exterminating Konoha rooted when old man Sarutobi said something about him being sick and twisted and not letting him be Hokage. How stupid. >:/
Nami looked up at the white haired sannin.
"That's true. But Orochimaru is no weakling himself. You know after his target of the Akatsuki, Konoha is going to be next."
She knew it was no use mourning over someone she hardly knew, but Sasuke letting Orochimaru take over his body opened up a whole big can of worms.
"But anyway I hope Naruto is alright...."Running her fingers through her hair she looked up at Jiraiya.
"I suppose you want to go."Bowing to the white haired man, she stood straight again. Her long black hair falling over her shoulders, her pupils were just slits. Looking very snakelike she smiled.
Putting her hands into the tiger sign,"HAI!" she poofed off, leaving only a smoke trial behind.
Hearing a knock on his door, Naruto made his way downstairs, not in any hurry at all. Unlocking the door, he opened the door a crack at first, but opened it fully after seeing who it was. "...Tsunade no baa-chan? What're you doing here?" He said in his best effort not to sound too depressed. It wasn't working too well, however. He was somewhat surprised to see that she had come all the way here to see him.
Tsunade smiled at Naruto lightly.
"May I come in?"She asked politely.
Easily telling that he was trying to cover up his depression, but it was failing miserably.
"Naruto. Has anyone else been by yet?"She asked quizically, because if someone was there she could just get straight to the point without any small talk what-so-ever.
But if not, sadly, she would have to break the ice. Hey! Maybe she would make him feel better?
But breaking the ice on a sore subject like this always made wounds worse, but, it had to be done wether Naruto liked it or not.
